1. Do you like to sit to the side of the screen (ie. off-center), even when there are plenty of center seats available?

2. If yes, why?

I notice a lot of people like to sit just a couple seats into the row, even in a mostly empty theater. Always wondered why people prefer this.

No. Those people are monsters. I kid. Kind of.

I like to sit right behind teenagers that are wearing suits. Just so if they start a ruckus I can put an end to it real fast.

I am this monster.

- Especially if seeing a movie by myself, I prefer the end of the row because it's obviously one less stranger I have to sit next to.

- More importantly, though, I like being able to see the screen AND have the audience in my periphery. Movies are such a communal experience for me that I not only like watching the screen, but also having more of an awareness out of the corner of my eye of *other* people watching the screen as well, if that makes any sense.

- Also, I simply like the easy access to an isle seat if I have to go to the bathroom or when the movie's over I can just bolt.

- Finally, I'm not a claustrophobic person at all, but I do feel a bit "trapped" when I'm dead center of the theater. Just something about it I don't like. Smaller theaters I don't care as much, but in bigger theaters with large crowds, I'm just not a fan.

Long ago my wife and I would always, ALWAYS aim for the two or three seats on the little side rows. Just so we didn't have to deal with people on either side of us in those cramped old seats.

But that was before the fancy leather reclining seats that have all sorts of room. Now the theater we go to doesn't have those little side rows but we don't care because we have all the room in the world in our reclining thrones.

When I was single I wouldn't go to movies because I'm an irascible jerk and I hate interacting with strangers.

When it was just me and my wife we'd sit on the end and I'd have her sit on the inside so there was no way I'd have to sit next to a stranger because I'm an irascible jerk and I hate interacting with strangers.

Now that I have two kids we sit in the middle and I make my family members sit on either side because I'm an irascible jerk and I hate interacting with strangers.

I tend to go toward the end of a row so that I can minimize who I'm sitting next to in case they annoy me, and also so I can make a quick/unobtrusive pisser run. With 20 minutes of trailers and ads, movies seemingly longer than ever, and my enjoyment of a large soda with popcorn, there's a fair chance a wazzer is gonna be needed so I can make a fast exit and return this way

Yeah i have a tiny bladder and there is nothing more awkward than walking in front of people. I always sit on the end.

Back/last row and matinee these days. I hate hearing anyone talking behind or above me. I'm old and grumpy.

I like to sit on the end of a row. That significantly decreases my chances of sitting in front of someone who will be smacking on a bucket of popcorn for half the movie.

Guess I'm like Head Ninja, old and grumpy as well. Maybe we can be best friends.

Lots of isle-sitters coming forward. My kind of people.

For real though, lounge seats and wider aisles have made me into a dead center sitter. I don't mind quickly passing by someone to go to the bathroom in that setup.

I used to sit in the middle, but I got tired of hearing people complain about smelling weed when I walked in front of them. I still sit in the middle. F*#k 'em.

Do you have the RunPee app? It tells you when you should take pee breaks, if you need one, and you can read what's happening during the break.

I need it because I finish the large drink while during previews, get a refill before the start of the movie, and then have to make about 3 trips to the bathroom.

I like the aisle seat for convenience, but the floor lights briefly take me out of the movie sometimes.

Off-topic but, Major first world problem, I don't know why but I get Hulk rage when people rattle their candy or popcorn bag during a quiet moment.

That said, there's nowhere else I'd rather be if it's a good movie.

You sit near an island?

I've always sat on the aisle. Feels safer when I'm alone and also the pee thing. Especially now that I often have a kid with me; there is no way we're making it through a movie without going to the restroom.

Wait... this is a real thing? I remember the Hard Knocks episode where Jordan Palmer (I think) was repping it as a startup a long time ago.

I prefer to sit dead center but usually end up more towards the side in order to sit as far away from any other jackass in the theater. I absolutely HATE people that talk during a movie and I always seem to end up right by those *******s if I don't space myself away from others.

I usually stay towards the aisle. Pro tip...when reserving seats for my family I'll leave a single open at the aisle. Also a single between us and the next reserved party if possible. Unless its packed, singles will usually go unused.

I tend to sit near the aisle, as I cannot stand having people I don't know surrounding me. But I'm also turning into a grumpy old man.

Usually end aisle....but that's mainly cause of not wanting to bug people whenever me or one of my kids has to go to the bathroom.

I think during Thor I had to go take a leak 3 times (I drink lots of fluids and haven't been to the movies in a while)....so yeah I'd rather not walk in front of people when nature calls or when I inevitably have to escort one of my boys to go as well

Well Jordan Palmer was on the Bengals at the time, so that would line up.

Yes, Jordan Palmer is one of the investors and for heavy coke drinkers at the movies, it is totally worth it. Excellent recall.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
So, years back during the week of one of the Star Wars premieres (can't remember if TFA or Rogue One), I had a kidney stone make an appearance in my life. I got through the movie, but it was not the most enjoyable experience of my life. For some reason since that day, I get this weird feeling of anxiety anytime I'm in a packed theater. It started on that damn night - never struggled with this in the past. I've found it is a slightly better experience if I sit near the aisle now. We sat middle during Maverick, and it took a little bit of work for me to tamp down that feeling in my chest that a panic attack was coming, and I'd be stuck in my seat. I don't understand what the hell it is... maybe I need to see a shrink at this point.

My wife and I have specific seats we sit in at the XD screen at Cinemark. If they are not available, we don't go to the movie, period.
