I always thought Lloyd was the dumber one, but a recent re-watch, and now I am wondering if that's the case. Lloyd is definitely a bigger a-hole, but he does have some moments where he shows a slight bit of intelligence. Examples:
- Gets a good deal on Petey
- Tricks Sea Bass
- Brings gloves to the Rockies

However, he also is at fault for some of the dumbest moments:
- Falls off a jetway multiple times
- Gets robbed by a sweet old lady
- Drives 1/6th of the way across the country in the wrong direction

Also, it seems like Lloyd is the leader, and Harry just follows, which makes Harry seem a bit dumber. Another point for Lloyd is that he remember the direction of the town.

So, who is the dumber one? Harry or Lloyd?

Who's the bigger fool? The fool, or the one who follows him?

This might be the height of overthinking on this stupid website.

To Harry's credit

• he talks the masseuse into getting a massage
• actually goes out with Mary
• puts on the kevlar vest
• runs his own mobile dog grooming business.

Lloyd has the dumbest moments, Harry is the most consistently dumb... So I don't have a good answer.

The dumber one is the one who thinks the brand of suitcase is Mary's last name and thought "Man walks on the moon" was breaking news.

I always said Lloyd because he chased down the bikini team at the end and sent them in another direction.

But then Harry didn't realize his mistake when Lloyd asked him, "do you realize what you've done?!"

I don't care how stupid someone is if someone asks me that, I will check my assumptions for something factually being way off. Harry should have realized it and said something...

I've spent 15 minutes trying to logic this one way or the other.

Therefore the answer is me.

This is truly my favorite thread in the history of TA

Lloyd is definitively the dumber of the two and we learn this right before the credits of the original film.

When the duo is confronted with the bikini models and their proposition, Harry gives them advice that there is a town a few miles ahead. To which Lloyd stops the bus and informs the models that the town is back the other way.

While this may be true, the models would have already known of the town they just passed, ergo Lloyd's input is not new information to the models, they clearly would have driven from that town. Lloyd does not realize the models would have driven from the town, whereas Harry is intends them to find two greasers along the route they are traveling.

This instance is the clearest apples to apples comparison of their mental capacities, imho. Everything else is situational where it is probably both characters fall to folly...like the 80s film "Pure Luck."

This is actually a point in favor of Lloyd. Although he can't read the newspaper article about Mary, he obviously studied that night and is a quick learner as he can clearly read the breaking news the next day...

Another excellent point that I didn't even think about. Lloyd is clearly smart enough to recognize that Mary is taking a plane flight when he picks her up for the trip to the airport. On the flip side, Harry doesn't realize that both skis belong to the FBI girl.



I will say, Harry clearly has better game, as he not only gets a date with Mary, but he also gets the hot FBI girls phone number.

I feel harry is consistently in a stable dumb state but lloyd's dumb volatility is off the scales at some points:

-duct taping bird's heads
-selling a vehicle for a moped (totally redeemable)
-running off an empty jet bridge
-getting mugged by a senior citizen

The man has ideas and some ambition but dam son....

Llyod was the brains behind "borrowing" the ransom money.
