I think that's a valid hypothesis - although it seems to me it's Kim that wants to go too far and Jimmy has been more reluctant on this Howard scam, but either way something could happen and Kim pays the price.DannyDuberstein said:

It could be that it works and they get Sandpiper money and Kim leaves with her cut. They were almost breaking up, she was irate at how Jimmy used her and made her look dumb, and then suddenly she proposes marriage and this Howard scam - something to think about.
Lalo is looking for some type of proof (we assume he's still looking anyway) and he knows Kim and Jimmy are together and still doesn't feel good about the interrogation at Jimmy's apartment - maybe Kim pays a price for that as well.
The writers have left a few plausible options, but the past shows them to try to stay true to the character's and the situations they have put themselves in.
