Ha, I really don't know what some of you expect from this show, on a weekly basis. Yes, the past three episodes were more intense, but this was still a damn good hour of television, and Rhea Seehorn directed the sh*t out of it.

My biggest takeaway was not only that Mike delivers the Lalo news to Kim and not Jimmy, but that Kim then decides to take it a step further and not tell Jimmy either. That subtly felt like it could have big implications down the road, to the point where Jimmy potentially remains ignorant of the fact that Lalo is still alive (until it's too late), all the while Kim takes on that burden, or, worse yet, tries and do something about it, unbeknownst to Jimmy.

So was the car following Kim and Jimmy at the end of episode 1 ( or was it episode 2???) one of Mike's guys? The same one she confronted last night? The obvious difference was in the previous episode it was just the driver, this time it was two people. Same type of Chevy sedan though. Seems like that first car following them happened before most of the stuff blew up with Salamanca and Gus.

No reason to think otherwise.

Mike has a bunch of guys. So it wasn't necessarily the same guy following her. In fact, if they want to keep themselves hidden, they would rotate. If one was following the whole time, and Lalo was watching, then he would spot them, and that would be less than ideal.

And complaining that this was a meh episode is like complaining that S5e1 of BB was boring after the end of season 4. They could easily write a shootout every episode, but that would be a crappy show. It would be like Knight Rider where EVERY episode he would jump his car once at the end. And 8 year olds would cheer (while parents roll their eyes). We don't want that.

Agreed. This episode was classic story telling. Had to move several plots forward.

This isn't a sitcom with a bow tie every week.

I guess I was the only amused that Gus wears a clip on tie to work.

I don't haver many ties, and no clip-ons, but damn they seem convenient.

To me, the details and thread tying has always been spot on and episodes like this do just that. Even in this episode, Gus complains to Mike about the guy in his restaurant not being up to Pollos standards. Gus is so freaking controlling that one of his on the ground protectors doesn't cook chicken right and he feels the need to point it out.

I also said "clip-ons? Come on Gus".

Toilet in the middle of the future Saul office/golden throne toilet in his house?

The Mike and Kim scene leads into my endgame scenario pretty well...but more on that later.

We know the fate of most of the characters in BCS thanks to BB, except 3...Howard, Kim and Lalo. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember them being referenced by name in BB. For Howard, I think Jimmy and Kim's plan works and Howard is discredited legally and personally and he goes a bit crazy and tries to do something to Jimmy that lands him in jail, or he really goes off the deep end and kills himself. Both are possible.

Kim and Lalo are a bit more interesting. I think Lalo has a thing for Kim. He has made comments about her before and I think he is a bit more then interested in her especially after she told him off in her apartment. We know Lalo thinks Jimmy lied to him and doesn't really like him, but he is intrigued by Kim. I think Lalo does something like kidnap Kim or something else to her to get back at Jimmy and Kim ends up killing Lalo. Mike likes Kim more then Jimmy because he thinks she is smarter, and to help her escape the wrath of the Salamanca's, Mike helps Kim fake her death and sends her to the vacuum cleaner man. Jimmy thinks she's dead, as do the Salamanca's. This would mean that the 4 main players from BCS and BB all went to the vacuum cleaner man to get on with their lives...except of course Walt...we know how that ends. Could Kim and Jimmy meet up again in Omaha? Maybe. We still haven't seen Gene yet and we know how boring his life is in Omaha. So maybe the creators would like to give Jimmy/Saul/Gene a happy ending and we may get to see Jimmy and Kim together again.

Just my wild guess...we will see.

This episode was solid and not just filler, IMO. You can't have a major character death every episode and this one moved the ball down the field. We learned who was following Kim. We discovered how and why Saul opens his office in a strip center. We get the fantastic scene with Kim and Mike and the reveal to Kim that Lalo is not dead as well as Kim not disclosing that information to Saul, for now. We also had progression in the Hamlin scheme. Not to mention the cameos of Wendy, Spooge, and Cucumber Water Lady.

Pending questions ripe for theories:
  • Where is Lalo and what proof is he after to show Fring is working against the cartel? Leading theory for me is something to do with the lab the Germans were building for Gus.
  • What's going to happen to Kim?
  • How is the scheme against Hamlin going to play out?
  • Is Skinny Pete or Badger, Cliff Main's son with a drug problem?

Two parts I keep thinking about:

1. Kim telling Wendy that she would represent her going forward, seemed to be a little emphasis there.

2. Hamlin even offering his therapist a job. I mean for real, wtf is that. Great little nugget into his personality, and him also offering Jimmy a job.

All of this is true and still keeps my interest, but I've grown very bored with the whole Hamlin scheme. Ready for that to wrap up.

Next episode was Mike talking to Gus in the currently under construction lab, correct? So maybe first bullet is there.

4th bullet, good call, both skinny Pete and Badger were music guys like Cliff. Obviously Pete is way better than Badger.

Pretty much this.

I am so invested in this world and in these characters that I can spend a whole episode just following their lives and not need a huge event to keep me interested.

Plus, as most have already said, they are setting the table for this final run before the midseason finale.

And I know I'm a broken record, but nobody in the business is better than Gilligan/Gould when it comes to cold opens. That alone, as well as the awesome camera work and editing, makes even a "filler" episode of this show better than 95% of tv.

Also, I'm doubling down on my theory that Kim ends up in jail.

The whole Howard thing is going to blow up in their face, and I think Saul will betray her to keep himself out of jail.

I think this guilt is part of why he is so depressed in the Gene scenes, not just losing his previous life.

Oh, and I really enjoyed seeing Wendy and Kim interact. It felt like a really cool way of these two universes meeting, especially since Kim is only ever seen in BCS.

If it was a he-said/she-said then he is the bigger fish. He is the one got Lalo off. He is the one they would rather take down. So I would think that if he betrayed Kim, then she'd betray him right back and he'd be the one in jail.

He is a friend of the cartel, and she is not.

Maybe Mike says she has to keep quiet or they'll have to kill Jimmy, or something along those lines.

However this continues to be one of my favorite cold opens:

It seemed like a real specific thing when Kim offered legal services at any time, for free, to Wendy. Could just be showing Kim cares for the disadvantaged, while also being OK with a somewhat nonsensical attack on Howard and OK with Jimmy's cartel activity, but I also remember Wendy being questioned by the DEA and Hank in Breaking Bad and it makes you wonder if Kim was out there helping her somehow through that.

I'm personally in the Kim is "gone" (dead/jailed/fled into self exile) during Breaking Bad timeline camp, but who knows what the writers have planned.

Him being a friend of the cartel would make them want to go after him more.

I don't think Jimmy would do it. He would take jail before imposing it on her.

Guilt and depression don't seem so apparent in his gold toilet house, with the gold pillars, and the viagra in the bathroom, in his demeanor during Breaking Bad timeline. I'm assuming you are saying he puts her in jail at end of Better Call Saul timeline, before most or all of the Breaking Bad timeline. I think having no friends, in fear of your freedom or life, and working at a mall Cinnabon in Nebraska is reason enough for the depression. Plus, he seems to have gone colorblind.

Still think the Howard ruse goes south because Jimmy goes too far while Kim wants to stop, and Kim ends up the one that pays the price.

Well, I think the ruminating in isolation is what changes his outlook.
