GEORGE: Slippery Pete, Kramer tells me you are one hell of a rogue electrician. And shlomo, you're the best truck driver.
SHLOMO: I don't know If I'm the best.
GEORGE: Oh...you're very good.
SHLOMO: Let's say "good."
GEORGE: Ok. Good. And Kramer, you're in charge of taping off the loading zone.
KRAMER: Lock and load.
SLIPPERY PETE: You think you can handle that, numb nuts?
KRAMER: All right, all right, come on, now.
SLIPPERY PETE: That was my mail-order bride.
KRAMER: Hey, you weren't home, so I signed for her.
SLIPPERY PETE: It doesn't give you the right to make out with her.
KRAMER: You weren't even married yet.

The overhead shot of the street with George as the literal Frogger is TV greatness.

I'm enjoying a sort of rewatch.

My son is now watching the entire series and I occasionally see one with him. I have told him on a few episodes to make sure and watch it with me - some of the best ones of course.

It's been fun he is really enjoying it. He is 26 now.

What's incredible to me now is how much of it you could actually not get away with today. The gay humor seemed completely benign at the time but no way you could make those references today. In fact at least one character would have to be gay today and another one a minority. You could never make this show today as it was. Sad.

I never found the gay humor to be that bad, at all. I don't remember the show making fun of gays.

The biggest episode focused around that is when the college chick writing the article thinks Jerry and George are gay, "not that there's anything wrong with that."

The only response from the lesbian chick on that video posted earlier in the thread was why was it so bad for someone to think they were gay?

That is such a stupid response. There are many reason I can think of why one wouldn't want an article to be written claiming you are gay if you are not. I would want to correct someone if they thought I was anything I'm not.

Outside of that, any guy who says they have never jackassed around with friends by making gay remarks to try and make them feel uncomfortable for laughs is just lying or doesn't have good friends.

Imagine the one where Elaine dates the guy she thinks is black and he thinks she's Hispanic. Then they're bummed out when they realize they're "just a couple of white people".

I contend that nobody can actually be offended about anything they made fun of throughout the series purely based on Judge Vandelay's ruling after the verdict:

Quote:

I do not know how, or under what circumstances the four of you found each other, but your callous indifference and utter disregard for everything that is good and decent has rocked the very foundation upon which our society is built. I can think of nothing more fitting than for the four of youto spend a year removed from society so that you can contemplate the manner in which you have conducted yourselves.

In the end, they wrote those 4 characters as the worst and they had to do hard time!

Exactly. It's the whole point of the show. These are horrible people, granted different levels of horrible.

Yeah sorry I meant not just the gay humor, most of which was mild, but in general.

Some of it was in the stand up stuff Jerry did in the intro and outro to the shows. Maybe it gets a pass because of that. Just a little off color at times.

But there was also The Beard episode where Elaine tries to turn a gay man straight.

And some were more racist in content like the one where Jerry attempted to date a native American woman and called her an Indian Giver.

Kramer had a traveling asian man sleep in his dresser drawer. He also caused a riot in The Puerto Rican Day by burning their flag (accidentally) and chalked it up like it was another day in Puerto Rico.

In The Wizard Elaine can't figure out the race of the guy she is dating and thinks he is a light skinned black guy. And vice versa he thinks she is Hispanic. They end up being just white people.

Jerry claims he cannot be racist if he likes asian women.

It had its moments for sure. A lot of that would not fly today.

The Puerto Rican day episode immediately got a lot of hate and was pulled from reruns and syndication. I think they are showing it again now, but I haven't seen it since it originally aired, and I remember it being one of the worst episodes of the whole series.

Not even close, but whatever works for you. The entire last season had its moments but was a big step down. You are the first person I've ever seen say they actually liked that episode, let alone consider it one of the greats.

But I guess that's the good thing about Seinfeld, there is something for everyone.

I love the Puerto Rican Day Parade episode, as do most of my seinfeld friends. It does a fantastic job of bringing a lot of pieces of the entire series full circle with all their alter egos and whatnot

The whole issue with Jerry and Lamar and the traffic disagreement

Elaine with the cab driver

Kramer becoming Pennypacker again so he can use a bathroom and the way he describes himself to the realtor

George being Vandelay to get to the bathroom

Jerry being Varnsen to watch the Mets game

Cedric and Bob showing up out of nowhere

Lamar yelling "hey jackass, get me a Diet Dr Pepper!" and Jerry yelling "Allllright". They are mad at each other but he's going to get him a drink anyway because they are all in this jam together

Kramer crawling into the Saab with the Puerto Rican family

The George/laser pointer guy bit isn't that strong but it does highlight how much of a moron George is to hang on to one zinger that isn't that funny. Kinda like "jerk store".

The Cadillac vs. The Merv Griffin Show, that was tough. Went with the latter though, for the sheer wit and scenes surrounding the Merv Griffin setup in Kramer's apartment.

As I'm doing a rewatch after each episode I slot it in where I think it goes for an overall ranking. Currently I'm rewatched through S6E6. And those are 1 and 2 up to this point.

I'm not putting others on the list until I rewatch so all the storylines and jokes are fresh in my mind
