I was not a fan of the timeline jumping in S1.

+1. Took me a second watch to figure it out. Geralt not showing any signs of age made it tough for me to follow.
Is there a recommended viewing order or a guide to watch season 1 chronologically? I want to do another watch through with the wife but don't want to deal with explaining time-hops.

He's a Witcher. They age incredibly slow

From what I recall each episode has time jumps so not sure that's really feasible.

Yeah I didn't realize that they were time jumping until I got almost all the way to end. I just thought they were saving money by reusing sets

considering that Geralt finding Ciri after she's been terrorized and chased across the continent is the actual climax and culmination of Geralt embracing his destiny. her storyline, told in chronological order by episodes, remains the best way to view it.

i don't like that as an answer, but it's the truth. otherwise it would have just been Geralt having random adventures for 2 seasons (couple of interactions with Yennifer) and then a call back to that random episode when he saved Dunny and evoked the Law of Surprise when Ciri showed up. it was annoying till you figured it out, but it let you tell 3 different storylines and timelines in a single season.

having 0 knowledge of the source material outside of seeing the video game, i'm ashamed to admit that i didn't realize what was going on till the episode where Geralt saves Dunny and i was all, "didn't that queen lady die in the first episode?" then i had a headslap where i realized that none of this was going on at the same time.

I need to rewatch to be sure, but I think I realized that you could track the timelines better by noticing what he's wearing. I think I realized he was wearing less and simpler armor in the earlier storylines.

might be true. i'll be rewatching in the next few weeks.

unfortunately our family is in the middle of Locke and Key, Hawkeye, WoT (wife and I,) and Lost in Space. finding time to get this in during December is going to be rough.

Just know going in that chronologically Yennifer starts first then Geralt then Ciri.

They do drop hints all over the place that you notice the second time through, but first time through definitely a mess.

I think that it could have been a much better show without the timeline mess but I kind of see why they did it to keep you invested in all three characters without boring people with 3 episodes of ciri straight and no Geralt.

The ending was really good to me still on second watch through. Yennifers scene is awesome.

The story line of Yennifer at the academy happens first chronologically, but I assume geralt was witchering long before that, just based upon his aging.

That being said, if you watch the anime, they turn the boys pretty young like 9-10. To age them to "15 or 16" to send them out might take 50 years. That's a lot of training. Then we assume the geralt that appears in s1 is probably in his 30s (adjusted).

All of that information can be found on the Netflix website here https://www.witchernetflix.com/

Geralt is about 30 years older than Yen.

I hated the time jumping. I wish they had just done it in order.

Here is a screenrant that tries to put the events of Season 1 in order.

The 1st book jumped around similar to the show. The first 2 books were basically short stories with some of the main plot mixed in. Yennifers back story, in the show, was not in the books. I can see how show watchers would find the time jumping frustrating.

Do we think we get another banger from Jaskier this year? Btw, Jaskier vs Dandelion, thoughts?

You asking which name we like better? Jaskier and Dandelion are the same person.

It would be so easy for Netflix to give the option to watch the whole thing in chronological order with shows that do this. Or to only watch certain storylines. I don't understand why they don't do this after it has been out for a year or whatever. Seems like it would prompt a lot of rewatches.

It really isn't as jarring the second time through. You pick up on all the subtle commentary that marks the timeline that you may not understand the first time through. It was still a really good rewatch.

Yep, agreed. I found it fairly easy to follow, specifically with how they mentioned Calanthe throughout the season.

Anyone else re-watch the first season and think some episodes (or maybe one episode?) is missing?

I re-watched and saw the reference to Butcher of Blaviken when he meets Jaskier but there is no episode containing the fight scene where he earned that name. Also, missing the episode that shows some of his Witcher training with other candidates.

ETA: Nevermind, went back and looked, I apparently started my re-watch with the second episode instead of The End's Beginning. Issue resolved.

Had to watch the 15 minute season 1 recap on Netflix before I started season 2. It's in chronological order which definitely helped out. Currently watching episode 2. I'm glad it's back to being chronological this season as opposed to blurring the timelime in season 1.

Though a few episodes at this point. Really enjoying this season. I think the groundwork they did last season has really paid off.

Really enjoyed season 2. Wife liked it a little less because there wasn't as much love story and less comedic relief, but she still liked it overall.

Is it me or are Geralt's eyes more yellow than S1?

We rolled straight from a rewatch of S1 into S2 and his eyes are more yellow and Ciri goes from white/clear eyebrows in the first scene to suddenly having brown eyebrows while she's asleep under the lean in.
