Where in Houston can I go try on some AJ1's and dunks just to check fit and comfort? Does your run of the mill Nike Store, Champs, or Nordstrom at least have a pair to check out?
Those stores should have at least one pair in stock. Not sure what part of Houston but if you are ever in the Montrose area Money Money is a really cool shop across the street from Trader Joe's to browse and see what you might like.

I'd be surprised to see AJ1s or Dunks at one of those stores, but I'm sure Houston has specialty sneaker stores where you can buy at secondary. The trick is whether they have pairs you can try on. Most of the ones I've stopped in (outside of Houston) have the shoes in cellophane/shrink wrapped. They probably have some test pairs though.

So I show my wife every shoe on this thread i like just to see her thoughts and the results are pretty funny. For instance, she thought those grey 90s were too flashy (wtf?!). The only shoes she has liked are simple Jordan 1s.

I've got to be honest, I'm with your wife on that. There are some shoes I really like in this thread but 90% of what is posted doesn't make any sense to me. I can't imagine people actually wearing some of these shoes. Probably just a sign that I'm an old now.
I am actually glad the root canal I had to sit through this morning kept me from spending money (on shoes that is). Looks like I missed the carolina blue dunk shock drop
Agree completely on several things here, but some light grey 90s with simple red highlights are anything but flashy to me though. I only show her the things I would buy if I had the chance though, not everything.
I want to get a pair of chunky dunky lows which my kids love but my wife forbids.

This is kind of a ridiculous reduction, and I'm not equating a pair of Nike Dunks to masterful art. What I am trying to say is sometimes you can understand that something is ridiculous but like it anyway for whatever reason.
For a lot of these shoes, yeah they are absolutely ridiculous. I like them anyway.
And to continue the art analogy, Supremes are the Andy Warhols of the shoe game. Is it cool? Yeah, I can see how they are cool. Do I want to wear them or think they are worth the money? Not to me. But if it's your bit, then very cool. But then again, I'm also not going to hang this on my wall even though it's good enough to put in the MOMA.

I'm new to all this, am getting older, and felt the same way. I never like Air Force ones. Never thought I'd ever buy/wear them. Someone on here posted a color combo that I liked, I took a shot and they're the most comfortable and favorite sneakers I've owned.
Also someone posted some air maxes that I used to think were too "flashy," I bought the bone white color combo and they're great.
I only wear sneakers with shorts and ankle or mid socks, so I don't know if I can do the high tops, but I'll try if I ever get access to a color combo I like.
About being old, so what? It's a younger mans game for sure but I wouldn't let that stop you from trying some out if you like them. Try and get in on some of the vintage reimagined nikes that have been coming out.
All that being said I bet this thread has created a lot of new wannabe sneaker heads like my self.kudos to you guys.

The post about Supreme made me think about it and one of the reddit links posted had folks talking about Bape shoes, which are hideous.
The best thing about being an old is being able to afford all the sneakers I wanted as a kid now. So even tho I'm old, I still wear them.

It's exactly the platform look. Either the shoe needs to be uniform in color, or the outsole has to contrast some. I ultimately passed on the last AF1 from them because i thought the outsole and midsole looked too close, but I'm kicking myself for that seeing the real-life photos of those shoes.

Very much in the minority, but I'm not a huge fan of dunks, however these Tokyo Fragments are great. Hope they get a stateside release.

In general, I don't think there's a ton of cash to be made on J5s. I don't know if the Moonlights are getting hyped, though.
