Don't know what kind of sound you're going for, but the Marshall DSL40 is pretty sweet - I saw a lightly used one yesterday for under $400 at a GC in FW. I picked up a DSL20 last year that I'm happy with. I'm not gigging, just playing here at the house.

Sound good at a Lower volume?

You won't get the "Marshall sound" without driving the tubes and speaker, but yes, I'm very happy with it even at lower volumes. The reverb is so-so - my old split 50 combo's spring box was a better reverb, but a good pedal works.

What kind of sound are you going for?

For the last year or so, my primary tone stack is

Tele or Strat -> Vahlbrach Kaluna -->Imperial MKii Lead Channel at 5 on Volume, 6 on Tone, and 4 on mid bite.

My Tone King setting gets me that great edge of breakup tone for good clean stuff but with a bit of a tweed-like character. Then I use the Kaluna to push the front of the amp to get a more marshally driven sound. On the Kaluna, I roll back the bass a lot, roll a bit off the mids, and push the highs.

This setup has been tone heaven for me. I get the exact character I want with my fully driven sound, and backing off the volume on my guitars clean up extremely well.

I say all that to say: I would really look into the various pre-amp pedals on the market. They are especially great at driving a single channel amp and getting creamy gain at lower volumes because the pedals usually are designed to drive their single tube at a high level.

For my humbucker pickups, I use my Kingsley Page TS pedal instead of the Kaluna because the character of that one works better for humbuckers, imo.

Also, are you looking for a combo or a head? With either one, do you know if you prefer opened or closed back speakers?

I went to D'Addario NY XLs a few years ago and haven't looked back. They last a long time, but are more expensive than your standard. However, if you look for a while online, you can find some good deals.

Binding installed and first layers of finish on my Warmoth project. I could have gone a little lighter on the black back and sides. Love how the top turned out.

Sooooo many scratches show up after finish. No matter how much you sand, it's never enough.

Prewired Telecaster controls from Dylan talks tone (all I have to do is solder the positive and ground from the pickups and ground to the bridge plate)

Seymor Duncan 1/4 pounder telecaster single coils

Fender locking tuners

Fender bridge with Gotoh in tune compensated brass saddles

I am also altering a black plastic pickguard to cover as little of the top as possible

Is that all spalt on the top or did you use black grain filler?

The top wood is Pale Moon Ebony. It's from Laos primarily and known for that pattern. It's been used for both fretboards and bodies. Fender made a limited run of Telecasters and Stratocasters with Pale moon ebony fretboards in 2019.

I just put a natural finish over it. It's three pieces of 4 mm thick laminate that I joined together lengthwise then glued on top, after I planed 4 mm off the top of the Warmoth body. Then covered the joint with black plastic binding. Routing that binding channel caused me all kinds of problems.

Nice!

Curious as to why you went with DylanTalksTone over something like an Emerson kit. I swear by those kits and actually received a telecaster one yesterday to put in my green Tele.

To be honest, I'm not very familiar with guitar wiring or who sells what. I like Dylan's YouTube channel. His stuff is easy and seems to be well built. I bought one to try out on an old Squier and it sounds and works great. So I bought another.

One thing I did like about the Dylan kit is it comes already on a switch plate with knobs and switches ready to go.

Did a deal and traded in my 2015 Custom 22 and a little cash for a 2022 McCarty 594. I never used my tremolo and couldn't not get this beauty.

A green prs like this was my dream guitar for a long time. A few of my favorite 90's bands (cue silverchair) played them and had me itching for one before I ended up being a full time drummer for years. As I get back into guitar more and more, I've already warned my wife that no matter what guitars I buy/build in the next few years, a green prs will be in the final collection at some point.

Added a few more pics above.

Played her for a couple hours and she is setup real nice and sounds great. Definitely like being able to easily change tuning without fighting with the floating bridge affecting all the other string tension.

The only gripe I would give is that there is some 60 Hz hum being picked up somehow at higher gains that goes away when I touch the strings or any metal contact points. Will get her looked over when I get a chance to see if something is a little loose or if shielding could be beefed up. My custom 22 didn't do that.

Love that green! PRS does so well with the quilting.

Now I have the itch for a green guitar. Maybe that'll be the partcaster I want to build one day.
