I think those are Danny Gatton designed pickups. Going price is about right though.

Hi Dave, thanks, this is the guitar I am looking at. Yes they are Gatton pickups. They are plenty loud.

Found this on reverb and this seems more likely story. I'm wondering if the "920D Custom Shop" took a Made in Mexico Fender Tele, and modified it with their kit.

Not sure then if the pickups are Gattons or the DiMarzio DP186 Cruiser Pickup, DiMarzio DP384 Chopper T Pickup called out in this ad:

Correct. It looks to be some guys that take a Fender guitar, swap out some electronics, tuners, and the backplate, then call it a "Custom Shop" guitar. It's just a modded Telecaster.

The one you linked is a Mexican Fender Tele.

Ran the serial number on Fender's SN lookup site. It's a Fender Deluxe Nashville Tele model. You can look it up here: https://serialnumberlookup.fender.com/lookup/

SN is MX15142268

You can find these used on Reverb for $650-$750.

Basically, it comes down to whether you really like those pickups that are in it. If you were to buy a used Deluxe Nashville for around $600-$650, you could then have $350-$400 for a 3rd party harness and set of pickups you really like.

You can buy a 3-way Tele wiring harness from Emerson for $110. That is the gold standard in wiring kits, imo.

Pickups are completely subjective. You like what you like.

np. Bookmark that site. If I'm interested in a Fender, and running the serial number doesn't come up on that site, then I would call Fender to verify it is a legit guitar. I've seen some that don't show up there, but it's not super common.

If you want some GHS Boomers, these are the same price as the Gilmour Boomers they had last week or week before.

I've got a couple of boxes of D'Addario so I don't need these but man it's a good price.

Finally got around to swapping out the pickups in my Novo.

The guy I bought it from had swapped out the original Fralin pickups for a Ron Ellis P90 and 50/60 tele bridge. While those sounded fine, I was never the biggest fan of them.

Purchased a Seymour Duncan antiquity P90 for the neck and the antiquity 50's tele bridge. I'm liking these so much better than the Ron Ellis. Looking online at the cost of these Ron Ellis pickups, they are around $375 each new, which is insane. We'll see if I can get around $300 for each of them.

You guys have any recs in the BCS or Houston areas for guitar repairs? I have two guitars that have varying degrees of not working when plugged in.

I'm not the guy to do this type of stuff. Looking for people who take their time and know their stuff. TIA!

Thorne Music in College Station has been good to me. They have a repair shop.

In Houston I have used Rockin' Robin and been happy. I'm sure Fullers probably has a repair shop.

Yano, at Fullers, and Neil Sargent are the two I've used in Houston for various guitar work I didn't want to do. However, they are both usually booked out a week or two.

I know it's not for some, but I recommend everyone learn how to handle basic guitar issues. It's not a complicated machine. If you plug it in and there's no noise, it's probably a bad contact or frayed wire, somewhere.

Just got back from Nashville, a few take aways:
- Music City Vintage Guitars is way cool- not as big as I thought but had some really sweet stuff. The guys were super cool and very tolerant of a hobbyist and his curiosities.
- the musical talent in the town is insane. Walking by Kid Rocks and hearing an almost note for note cover of Thunderstruck. Bourbon St Blues Bar had a two man acoustic/electric duo that could tell stories, jam, sing- total audience engagement; then followed up by Big Monty who pretty much nailed any SRV or Hendrix cover you could think of. It was amazing and depressing at the same time: my wife keeps reminding me that I have a job and this is their job, and they're way more talented.
- bring a whole bunch of $10s for tipping bands.
-seemed like everything else costs $60 there, breakfast, lunch, bar tabs- $60.

So all the Broadway bars are no cover and it's mostly country cover bands, but they play 3hr sets! What ends up happening is you walk in, listen for the rest of the set, then the break down, new band sets up- that's 30mins- but at that point you're pot committed and a little anxious the wait will have been worth it- so you have to give them 4 or 5 songs... then you go a few doors down and you see the same singer w the drummer from 3 bars ago and the bass player from yesterday.

Oh- and Timberlakes 1230 club was super cool- they had this dude that hosts Friday nights there- he was everywhere from Incubus to Willy Nelson with Jet in the middle. Was talking to the bass player at the bar afterwards - we had commonality bc we both had bracelets our daughters made us- he's like, yea, just met these guys tonight. Wicked wicked talent in that town.

Yea I grew up in Austin and lived for a time in Nashville. I know Austin likes to tout the moniker 'Live Music Capital of the World', but I find that to be somewhat false if you're comparing week in and week out music (e.g. ignoring festivals) between the 2 cities.

Went over to a buddy's to watch the Aggie game this weekend. He had friends in town. One of them is Valerie Bertinelli's cousin. Apparently they're somewhat close, enough that they have been to see many shows as guests of the band. I showed her my phone case which has the Frankenstrat graphic on it, and she pulled a couple of Mamouth guitar picks out of her purse and gave one to me. Pretty pathetic topic for a brag, I know, but the pick came directly from Wolfie, so it's a teensy tiny bit cool, imo!
