There's a Sam Ash close to my office. I thought about stopping by, but I had read about only 5% off. I can just call someone at Swee****er or Guitar center and get more than 5% off.

Probably why they are closing lol
haha - true!

We got a delivery from Guitar Center today. It's the box of strings I ordered from Musicians Friend stupid deal of the day the other day

This one was shipped from my local guitar center. The last one came from much further away.

The strings at bottom were from my order several months back. The strings at top are from today's arrival.

This box looks like it's been on the dash of a GC delivery truck or in a window at the store. Maybe a display case that faces the front door.

The string packaging looks different on today's arrival.

Everything is intact and they should be fine but this is just sad.

Free to a good home.

Round Rock pick-up. I'll meet up with you around North Austin. It's a great little device and works perfect, just dont use it any more.

Musicians Friend is doing stupid deal of the hour today. It's probably good I didn't know that until now.

PSA- If you're ever headed to Big Bend NP and go through Alpine be sure to check out Far West Guitars. An unexpected guitar oasis in the desert. He has a good selection of used and some vintage stuff collected from guitar shows, consignment sales, etc. He had a couple of nice Heritage guitars, A killer Les Paul Standard, Robin Ranger, a nice ash American Tele, a couple of PRS SEs, Taylor acoustics, and so on. A real nice guy too.

Will at Far West Guitars is great! We stop by often to chat and see what's new. Picked up a Fulltone OCD 1.4 '07 from him this weekend.

He had a huge scare yesterday due to a multi-building fire on Holland. Several businesses are a complete loss. Messaged him last night and everything appears to be ok with his shop.

Keep the Alpine community in your thoughts.

I saw a pic of an SUV loaded up with guitars, so I assume it was getting scary enough to bail out.

I'm sure he grabbed everything he could. The fire could have easily spread over to his shop. Folks were trying to save as much of the artwork from the galleries that burned down.

He's got a pretty cool '98 P-Bass that some is donating the proceeds to those impacted by the fire. I'm tempted to buy it to help out in any way I can.

When were you at the shop? We came in early Saturday afternoon.

If you saw a guy, his wife, and a bouncing 8yr old boy, that was us. A couple was headed out as we came in.

That was us. Small world.

Unfortunately everything there that I was interested in was out of my price range.

I should amend my statement.

It's not that I couldn't lay out $2,000 for a Les Paul-like object (Heritage H-150). But since I already have three guitars that fit that profile, I don't need another.

What I'm currently in the market for is either a PRS Santana SE Special P90 (very rare in the USA as they were a Europe exclusive run), or a Les Paul Junior being sold at a ridiculously low price too good to resist.

Didn't even know there was a Santana SE with P90s.

Good luck on the LP Special/Jr. Those have gotten a little high, imo.

I picked up my '96 for about $1,500, after taxes. I was a little more open to spending the money on it because it was a mid-90's model with a nice dark rosewood board and a '60s profile neck.

All of my guitars are less than $300 value,MSRP, because I buy them and change out parts and get them setup well. I decided I want to buy a guitar for myself for my birthday next week - but the value guy in me doesn't want to spend the extra to go with a Gibson, and I have a budget Strat that plays really well, so not sure I want a Fender Strat.

I've been eyeing a Schecter and a PRS that look good. And on the higher end, there was a Dean Zelenski that looks beautiful. I haven't ever played one with their Z-Glide neck. Has anyone played one?

I've never played a Zelinski. They look good online though!

Man.... at least go play some higher quality Fenders before writing them off. I don't see a world where a $300 budget strat even holds a candle to my custom shop strat.

When it comes to guitars, the model I have played the most variants in ranges are Strats. I've owned and played them all from $100-$4,500. My custom shop Strat is, by far, the best Strat I've played. I picked it up used off Reverb for $2,700 and I consider that a steal. No amount of mods on a $300 guitar will get you the neck, fretboard, and fretwork quality my Strat has.

I was in the same boat…and then I bit the bullet to buy my DGT PRS and I haven't regretted it since. You only live once….just do it….its worth it.

I didn't get a new guitar but I got "new" pickups for my 1988 Strat Plus. My parents gave me this guitar as a graduation gift in 1991 (bought it from Murphy's Music in Irving), and the prior owner had installed active EMGs. They were fine, but I wasn't really a fan of the sound (or having to remove the pickguard to change the battery). Yesterday browsing Craigslist in Austin I came across a loaded pickguard from an '88 Strat Plus with the original Lace Sensors. Figured that was a needle in a haystack to find locally so I bought them and stuck them in yesterday. Like the sound and the cosmetics much better than the EMGs.

Way more guitars than a player of my caliber can reasonably justify. Specifically, a Jazzmaster Acoustasonic, 1999 Carvin TL60, and a 2013 Epiphone ES-175 Premium.
