I've got a set of these in black and they are pretty cool. If you have consider an inexpensive wireless option, here ya go.

Like the echo. I bought one on clearance, was supposed to be that sunburst but they sent the torrified one instead. I figure it's more expensive so I didn't say anything, but I really like the look of the burst.

HEY EVERYONE!

I am a bass player and I want to buy a new 5 string. Problem is I want to try out 5 strings and there are no good options where I live (BCS).

I travel to Houston, Austin, and Waco regularly. I'll make a trip to DFW or SA if there are good shops but could you recommend some non-Guitar Center shops in TX that are worth the trip/have the selection?

For reference, I play a Lakland 44-01 regularly and I am looking to try out some different brand/styles (fender, yamaha, G&L, etc.)

TIA!

Might as well see the two that Rockin Robin has while you are in town.

Man…it was some good natured ribbing. Sorry for partying.

If you're ever in Dallas, check out Tone Shop.

How many lead guitarists does it take to change a light bulb?

101. One to change the lightbulb and 100 to stand back with their arms crossed saying "I could have done that faster and more cleanly".

How many drummers does it take to change a lightbulb?

Zero. You can't let those guys touch anything breakable. Get a roadie to do it.

How many lead singers does it take to change a lightbulb?

One, and without really moving. The lead singer holds the lightbulb in the socket while the universe revolves around them and screws it in.

How many bass players does it take to change a lightbulb?

Who cares? Don't waste money on a new bulb. They are used to standing in the dark.

Southlake or Addison? I live in Way North Dallas, but never been to either...

Tone shop in Addison is where I've been, and had a good experience. Good assortment of new and used instruments.

I've only ever been to the Addison location but it's hard to go wrong there. Would love to hear thoughts on their new location if anyone stops in.

I was not super impressed with the Southlake Tone Shop. They had a ton of Fender guitars, and a decent sized wall overall. They didn't have a whole lot of amps, and not a ton of space overall.

Good feedback on locations y'all!

Where would one go for a hood appraisal on vintage guitars and amos in town (insurance purposes)?
agchino

For a hood appraisal, I would think any pawn shop would do.

good one Agchino and MB

guess autocorrect had something different in mind for me. I have a couple of VW Decklids to sell, maybe it wanted to clean house?

I intended to ask:

Messed around a little bit today with trying to intonate my Sire S7. Using the tuner on my Spark app. Might need to get a real tuner I can plug into. Spark tuner is glitchy.

I noticed last week when I played Killer of Giants on my Sire instead of one of my acoustics that the tuning is just not good when doing chord shapes on some of the upper frets.

I'm going to need to review how to intonate properly because I didn't do well today.

Intonation isn't rocket science. If the guitar is not properly intonating, that's a flaw in design/build.

What brand of strings are you using? Cheap strings can have an effect on intonation.
maroon barchetta

They are whatever came on the guitar.

I'm going to swap strings before I try again today.

I doubt it's a design or build flaw. This model is used often in the Anderton's videos. They could grab anything, and I see the champagne gold S7 in lots of videos to demo amps and pedals.

It definitely needs new strings. I'll go from there and give it another shot.

You are correct. It's not rocket science. Which is why I was frustrated.

I'm really excited to share that my partner and I had our patent filed today.

As said earlier in the thread, I'm not a musician, but working with my buddy, we developed a tool-set for routing a complex shape on a work piece without a CNC machine. We started with 3D printed tools, it would be simple to make them out of traditionally manufactured materials using normal methods. Our initial targeted use was for rear-mounted pickups for guitars. We also came up with a cover plate system which allows for mounting and adjusting the pickup from the rear. It makes for a really clean look, IMO.

I think there's other applications of our technology, but excited to share in this thread since it started with guitars, and I've had fun looking through all the posts here.

It will be cool to see a video of how it all works when you are able to share in the future.

If he's already filed the patent he's in the clear. Show us!

Changed strings Sunday evening. Stretched them pretty good and then practiced for an hour or so and worked in a bunch of bends all up and down the neck.

Monday I arrived for my lesson really early and had brought my little StewMac tool set in my case and just used a Snark headstock tuner. Got intonated pretty close. Sounds much better.

My instructor asked if I had checked my neck relief or action at all and I had not but I didn't have the necessary stuff with me to do that yesterday.

That will be a future project.

New strings are D'Addario XL 10's. They feel much better than what was on there. I think I remember the info that came with my Sire saying they use Ernie Ball Slinky 10's, but I would have to check.

Regardless, those strings had seven months of wear on them, plus or minus. They were overdue for a change.

Same thing with my Taylor 324ce. New or relatively new strings? Perfectly intonated. Once they get old, intonation goes out.
