New equipment day. My JHS 3 Series Screamer arrived around lunch time.

I've never tested an Ibanez Tube Screamer or any of its many clones like this one. I got it primarily to use with my acoustic on my acoustic amp to move a step closer to getting a Monte Montegomery type overdriven tone. Between this and my Keeley compressor it is inching towards that territory. I probably still need an overdrive pedal as well but this moves the needle closer.

My friend has borrowed my Yairi DY62C for a while. Hopefully I'll get it back tonight and get to give it a spin through the setup rather than the Larrivee.

The Larrivee is a much better sounding acoustic guitar overall, but that Yairi (same model Monte plays) is a beast playing his tunes. Especially when you use light guage strings and drop a 1/2 step as he does. Trying to play some of that stuff on the Larrivee w/medium gauge 440 tuning is like trying to nail Eruption on a 12 string. Yeah you can get to the same neighborhood but don't have a ticket to actually get in the ballpark, and you feel like walked a marathon on your fingertips.

It'll also be fun to put it in my electric chain just to see what the hell comes out the other side.

But you often see a Les Paul with a pick guard.

I do a lot of craft type work (wood-working, metal work, 3D printing, etc), and have a buddy that builds guitars. Using a combination of wood-working and 3D printing techniques, we've come up with some methods to do things for his manufacturing process. I can share more later, but just interested in the mindset of a guitar-owner from a maker standpoint.

Haha! No. Using additive manufacturing to make jigs and tools that assist in the build process. Some of the results have been pretty novel, IMO.

I can't share the details yet. We're looking hard at some licensing options. But since working on it, I've wanted to so bad and have pulled up this thread many times to learn from what people look for in their guitars and are doing...

Any of you guys have recommendations on where to take a guitar in the San Antonio area for setup/adjustment? The action on my high E is way lower than the rest of the strings. I think I'll need a new nut to fix that. On top of that, I'd just like to have the rest of the setup checked out once, professionally.

Understood. I'm too newby to know what I want. I just want to know what "right " or standard by a pro is like once, before I form opinions on how I might want to deviate. After that, I plan to be self sufficient

Oops, I did it again. An R4 Les Paul for $212.00? No way!





Pics were taken with a potato. Unlike my previous experience with CHibsons, this one arrived in only 5 days (after a very frustrating and confusing process- long story) and with the headstock intact!

So far, it appears it will require very minimal work to be a good axe. Just typical minor tweaks that it seems I do on all guitars anyway. One thing I like is the neck. CHUNKY and unusually consistent neck carve. Measures .90 at the 1st fret and .90 at the 12th. The only other neck I've encountered with no taper is my TRO FAT neck that I have on a Tele partscaster.

Pickups are meh, but if I decide to keep this thing I've got some Lollars that I can put in.
