That's awesome, man. You've got a holy grail! Guitar goals…

My wife sent me a picture this afternoon of my new treasure lying in it's box on the bed in a guest room. I opened that text right in the middle of a meeting. I immediately went into a trance…

I can't even imagine a guitar showing up while I was out of town. That's a torture that should be forbidden by the Geneva Conventions or something.

Not a new guitar but new guitar care equip arrived today.

StewMac action adjustment set
Cleaning tools
Neck rest and matt

I probably mentioned my laziness/ignorance to guitar maintenance earlier, but I'm finally getting serious about making my guitars the 'best they can be for me' without relying on paying someone to properly set them up.

I've only paid for setups 2 or 3 times, but I know should be doing it myself.

Often the reason someone else's guitar might 'play better' is due to care taken to treat it like a fine machine.

The 30 years for me meant only cleaning the grime off during string changes and learning (still) to properly setup a Floyd.

I've used a planet waves tripod for years to hold the neck but the thing moves like crazy - hopefully the block will be more stable.

I bought during a 15% off sale and manipulated an offer presented at checkout to get the neck support and mat for $30 total. I used a towel for a mat before but they tend to slide a lot.

As much as I love guitar I've always been a hack (at best) when it comes to taking care of and setting them up properly. You guys have wildly inspired me to treat them like the pieces of art/surgical equipment they should.

Staff - take out the trash.

I'm torn as to whether I should post here or start a new thread. I hesitate to do either, but chose to invade this thread and won't be offended if my post elicits a "GTFO" response.

I'm going to get myself a first-ever electric guitar for my upcoming birthday. Looking for advice.

I took a year or two of lessons during elementary/jr high ages. I learned to read music and could pick notes on my acoustic in the standard position (top 3 frets), plus strum chords to country/Eagles/etc. songs. That's where I stopped progressing, and lost interest quickly.

I'm a cheap-ass, so I don't want to spend much more than I absolutely have to in order to get one that's GOOD ENOUGH to not discourage me based on the guitar's inadequacies. Looking at reviews, I've narrowed down to a few potential options. They're probably laughable to most who have posted on this thread, but if you'd be so kind as to weigh in with some advice, I'd sure appreciate it.

Here's what I'm looking at:

https://www.amazon.com/Epiphone-Special-Satin-Worn-Cherry/dp/B06Y42YRJL/?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_w=Nkj24&content-id=amzn1.sym.bc5f3394-3b4c-4031-8ac0-18107ac75816&pf_rd_p=bc5f3394-3b4c-4031-8ac0-18107ac75816&pf_rd_r=W09BQ2RFXM5535F6E0KC&pd_rd_wg=34jQJ&pd_rd_r=53e15624-ff32-4429-a99c-fe28e6f750c6&ref_=pd_gw_ci_mcx_mr_hp_atf_m&th=1

and

The above two are based on a positive review from Paul Davids here:

OR

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IQCRJ9Y?smid=A2FV1C0FXPI98L&psc=1&linkCode=sl1&tag=fultonstreetb-20&linkId=c43526a1ca745976310f7f3c36102837&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl
.... costlier than the others, but comes with an amp and some other extras, so not really that much of a premium for the guitar.

Watch this and maybe the Anderton's video on the Sire S3.

After watching that video, watch this.

Wear a face shield so you don't get bits of DallasTeleAg's brain on you when his head explodes.

You will get quality sound and playability for not much money and will have portable gear and a lot of flexibility.

Wow... two whole videos posted of that jackass.

Paul Davids is great.

Did he insult your family or something?

Do you just hate Canadians?

He makes brief videos with good production quality and gives good gear reviews.

Brief videos are a plus for someone who might be looking at a lot of different product choices. I love watching Pete and Lee do intro and outro jams on the Anderton's gear review videos, but they are lengthy. This guy is shopping and might want to cover more ground quickly.

Today I looked at the Sweetwater site and was checking the NewGearDay posts.

Some woman in D.C. posted that she wants to learn how to play guitar and she decided to buy one from Sweetwater.

Les Paul Studio

That's a nice first guitar!!

I think the Pacifica was ahead of its time about a decade ago for a solid entry level guitar but others brands have caught up.

I'd go Squier at the sub $500 price point. If you don't mind going used you can start getting into Mexican Fenders pretty cheap as well.

I've heard the Epiphones are hit and miss (hell, everything is at this price point) but honestly you probably won't be able to tell the difference if you're just starting out.

thanks for the inputs so far!

The Sire S3 is interesting, but hard to find in stock. Same with the Spark Go, since it's on pre-order with shipping next month. I imagine the line of preorders is pretty long, so not sure i'd want to wait months and months to be able to play a new guitar (since I have no amp whatsoever at this point.) Other than that, those are certainly an interesting suggestion, that I appreciate!

where's the best place to look for used, if one were to go that route? ebay or reverb or ???

Reverb!

Or Sweetwater Gear Exchange

Plenty of Sire S3's on Reverb. One option is to find one in stock and then go directly to the shop's site if you don't want to go through Reverb. It's a great way to search stock without going to lots of sites.

Alamo Music Center in San Antonio.

Search their inventory.

Here is an option. I don't know your budget.

Somebody mentioned a MIM Strat earlier.

Here ya go. It's nice! Go try it out! Music Go Round sounds like a reputable business.

I've got a gig for the first time in almost three years tomorrow. Acoustic song swap with a buddy who needed duo partner in the event his voice doesn't last the night. It's a nice deal too. Venue is close and we're using his PA so all I have to haul is guitars, stands, and mic/cables.

Prayers for my fingers though. My callouses aren't in four hour gig condition right now.
maroon barchetta

Those callouses will be back by the end of the weekend!

Ouch... that's gonna hurt on an acoustic.

Better get enough booze in you to numb the pain. Just remember, guitarists look badass when they're bleeding all over their guitar!

It's gonna be a bit rough. I've done it before though. When I was still gigging regularly I sliced a finger pretty good and couldn't play for a couple months. My first weekend back gigging I had four four hour gigs in about 36 hours. I don't think the indentations came out of my fingers for two days after.

War stories.....I closed my left ring finger (bending finger) in my garage door the day before we had a four night stint in San Angelo, including an opening gig with The Great Divide at the old Santa Fe Junction Club. My finger was swollen up to the size of my thumb. Lots of Tylenol that week, and bending with my middle finger.

I didn't get relief until I got home. Took a sharp knife blade and drilled a hole in the fingernail to drain the blood out and relieve the pressure. That whole ordeal kind of sucked.

Youi need to tell us where you're playing so we can all come out, sit up front and yell "play Freebird!" between songs.

Spark Go ships in June if you can wait that long.

Well, y'all inspired me to do a thing (especially DallasTeleAg and his LPSpecial)

Incoming NGD-2015 LP Junior

Unlike DallasTeleAg, I absolutely love fat, corpulent necks, and the 2015 models have them. I don't even mind the robot tuners, although I'll likely replace them with Hipshot no-drills.

This will be the second one I've had recently. The first one had a finish crack at the neck inside the cutaway which seemed to be the clearcoat only, but it bugged me so I returned it. I've been wanting another one. I figured instead of blowing money to go to the Dallas Guitar Show next week I might as well invest that money in another guitar.

One other option is Adorama. They have Slick Deals of the Day sometimes that are serious sales, but I don't anything about the experience of buying from them.
