Mine has been sitting at a UPS distribution center about 20 minutes from my house since 3:30AM Sunday morning. No updates since other than it's scheduled to deliver tomorrow and I leave to go out of town for work later this afternoon. The guitar gods can be unkind.

No case. Gig was back ordered and will be here in a week or two.

I let it sit an hour. It's fine. Only about a 12 degree difference from outside where it was riding around to inside our house.

So your new axe has seen your shower, your lawn and your fireplace. Where are you taking her next?

We are going for a ride in the truck and to a music store.

She wants to show off her blingy neck in front of the other girls.

I know it's not a Fender, Gibson, or PRS (which I strongly considered), and I know the Spark isn't a 4x12 Marshall cabinet with a George Lynch model Laney head, but it should help me go in the direction I want to go for now.

I think it has P-100's in it, but I have set of Seymour Duncan antiquities to stick in there as soon as my Emerson control kit gets here.
HNGD!

I'd be interested to hear your opinion on the P100s if that's what they are. Most people seem to hate them. I'm curious to know what's different about them (ie more/less bright, more/less mids, etc).

Anything I should know special about locking tuners? I've never had them before.

Had someone tell me that you should unlock them if you are going to change tuning and then lock them down when you get done.

For example, unlock, change low E to Drop D, then relook.

That doesn't seem right to me.

Thoughts?

I don't know why you would need to do that.

Even with locking tuners, I like to make sure there are 2-3 winds. I just feels sturdier to me. My preferred tuners are still Fender vintage tuners. I even replaced a set of Fender locking tuners with a set of vintage style.

I don't know why someone would unlock them either. It doesn't make sense to me. And I haven't seen any videos warning people to do that.

Are you talking like a Floyd Rose guitar? Or is this something else?

Sire S7. See the pics on the previous page.

Just a Grover-style locking tuner.

So of course my guitar is going to deliver today while I'm out of town for work after sitting at a UPS facility that is only 20 minutes away from the house for more than 48 hours. I'm just hoping it delivers later in the day after my wife gets home so it doesn't sit on the front porch all day with rain in the forecast.

I've been thinking about a true Fender Tele for a while now. I have a FrankenTele (Nash body, fender neck) that is a lot of fun to play but still needed (wanted) a true Tele for my arsenal. I was having a hard time narrowing it down (sorry, TeleAg…not in the market for a custom shop…yet) when I went to my local shop to see what they had to play. After playing 3-4 others, I ended up with a Fender American Special Telecaster that I couldn't put down. It has jumbo frets which fit my hands perfectly. I have big hands so a traditional Tele neck has always felt extremely small with not much room to move to me. The frets always seem too "tight" if that makes any sense. The American Special solves that. While sitting in the shop I pulled up reverb to check the pricing and see what was on the market. The one I was playing in the shop was a beautiful blonde model but I almost fell off the chair when I saw that this model of American Special came in my holy grail of Fender colors…

…Sherwood green.

I made the guy selling it an offer I thought he'd turn down but he bit. This isn't mine obviously as mine might spend the day alone on my front porch and I won't get to put my hands on it until I get back home from my work trip. These come with Texas special pickups which I really dug while playing in the shop. I'll have some fun with them in the meantime while deciding if I want to eventually swap out the PUPs.

Happy NGD, gents.

Ask them to hold at the disty center and pick it up there. I've done that for several laptops and works out well. If it's on the truck then at the end of the shift it can be transferred but it could be the next day before you can see it.

Usually better to deliver to a business such as one of your friend's work address. I'm going out of town today or would offer mine

Years ago I had a guitar at a UPS center in Denton. I called and they said I could pick it up at any time, so I drove from Mckinney that night.

It was a Friday - why waste a perfectly good weekend night to play a new guitar?
Staff - take out the trash.

Nice!

Hey, I have no issue with the American Special series. I actually prefer it for the Tele instead of the Standard/Professional because it comes with the classic Tele bridge. I freaking HATE the 6-saddle bridges they use for the Standard/Professional Telecasters.

A few questions on specs. I'm going to ask, assuming the picture you posted is not exactly your guitar:
  • Alder or Ash body?
  • Maple or Rosewood board?
  • Board radius?
  • Are the Texas Special pickups staggered or flat pole?
  • Brass or steel saddles?
  • Are the saddles compensated?

Personally, I love things to look vintage. Fender has drop in replacement vintage style tuning keys that fit the modern routing and installation. Again, that's just my personal preference and is what I did for my 60th anniversary tele.

Grats on the beautiful Tele!

Any other weirdos that anticipate ahead of time/remember what songs you played first on your new guitars?

Fender Strat - Pride and Joy/Cold Shot
Taylor acoustic - Life by the Drop
FrankenTele - Know Your Enemy/Sleep Now in the Fire
Epiphone Casino - Don't Let Me Down
Gibson LP - Carry on Wayward Son (felt right in the moment for some reason haha)
Washburn bass - In Bloom (at band practice…had it since high school)
American Special Tele - We'll find out when I get home
