You left out my favorites, though they are definitely Metal biased.

Ola Englund the Swede (more entertaining) and Ben Eller (more technical/informative)

I only sub to Paul Davids, Anderton's, Rick Beato, Rhett Shull, and TPS.

I do also like some of Mary Spender's stuff.

Her recent video on noise exposure and tinnitus is well done. And scary.

If anybody is looking for an old new guitar here's one for sale if you can swing the starting bid of 1.8 million dollars:

Apologies if this has been discussed on this thread, but does anyone here play with a band? Anything from playing with a few guys in the garage to full time?
I used to but don't anymore.

Warmoth made their name in the eons where they were almost exclusively the only game in town doing custom builds at middle class pricing.

With the advent of CNC machinery, they've had to pivot toward pricing and market strategy as though they're the ultra-premium option. For me, that puts them into a manufacturing echelon that I'm not willing to spend in.

As for other options (if you'll indulge me), one of my COVID projects was assembling my own '72-inspired thinline telecaster, albeit with major deviations. I went with BYOGuitar to CNC me a body from spec, from scratch. I got a mahogany body with alder top + cream top binding for <$300 at the time. Found a Fender Deluxe-series neck on Amazon Warehouse for another $200, found Fralin wide range humbuckers cheap locally, and the rest was just spare parts.

I did my own finishing in my kitchen using a home-built isolation box, using a Home Depot large packing box with ports for spraying and keeping a filtered vacuum. Finished it in Daphne Blue with nitro on top, but goldtop-style leaving the sides and back with a matte tru-oil finish.

Not perfect by any means, but I was shocked how do-able it was for someone like me with no real tools or experience, and only the loose guidance of the internet for steering.

Results (keep in mind it's in playing condition, I just grabbed the thing off the rack right now to make photos with zero cleanup):

I got finish cracking almost immediately at the top and bottom of the F-hole, where stress concentrations are bound to develop, and it's been a slow and steady chipping of finish and paint along the edges too. When I finally got to open up my amp and play this one LOUD, a lot more microchecks developed on the face. Suppose that's to be expected when you're playing and your picking forearm can feel the air moving in and out of the F-hole.

Anyway, you can assemble yourself an excellent guitar for WAY less than what Warmoth is asking. That's what I really meant to say with this post.

Thanks MKF, and all for the feedback on Warmoth. They sound too much like a real project for me to take on at least for now.

Nice looking Tele!

Probably my two favorites as well.

I would imagine Ola has inspired countless music Youtubers even outside of the metal community. He basically built the blueprint and has executed it to perfection.

Started doing amp demos with no talking and now has 800k subscribers, two bands, multiple solo releases, his own guitar company (Solar) and has gotten up close and personal with his idols (Petrucci just invited him to be an instructor at his guitar retreat). Dude has the golden touch for sure. Love Ola the Swede.

Nope, nothing worthy of Rule #1.

I've just always dabbled in playing/learning over the years. This thread made me pull mine out, and I even went by Guitar Center to look around.

TeleAg…I may need some guidance…

Working a deal with my local shop to trade in a few guitars I never touch anymore with the original intent on getting a Tele. Not custom shop like you since I'm now married and my wife insists on making me an adult with money going to investment properties instead of expensive guitars (BOOO!).

So I was pretty much zeroed in on a player's Tele when I started looking at the Tele deluxe. I know there's a decent price gap but that's not my issue. I really don't have the need or gap in my collection for another humbucker guitar but damn I've always absolutely loved the look of a deluxe.

Save me from the cliff or push me off…

You're probably asking the wrong person on that one. If i'm looking at a Tele, I'm specifically looking for it to do that "Tele" thing. I also tend to prefer single-coil pickups to humbuckers. But if that's something you've loved for a long time, it's hard to argue.

I don't have much experience looking at either range, but Anderton's can help with that: https://blog.andertons.co.uk/labs/fender-player-plus-vs-player-series-guitars

For price ranges like that, I think the chance of stinkers just goes up, so you want to play the one you buy.

My issue with most modern guitars is that I prefer vintage specs and looks. On a tele, I want the ashtray bridge. With either of those options, I would end up replacing all of the pickpus and electronics with better stuff. I would put a set of SD antiquities in for the pickups, and would buy an Emerson control kit to replace the stock. I would also swap the tuning keys with vintage style tuning keys made to replace a modern Fender's style. I literally just did this with a tele of mine. Lastly, i'm putting a real bone nut on the guitar. By the time i've done that, I would have sunk another $300-$400 into the guitar.

I also am not a fan of that very light colored Pau Ferro wood they use in the Player series guitars for fretboards. I always lean towards darker rosewood as my preferred fretboard material, but that's a very personal preference.

Your biggest issue with that range would be fit and finish, especially where the neck/fretboard is concerned. You can roll your own fretboard if it's rosewood or pau ferro, but I don't know if their maple boards are laminated or not. If so, you can't really roll your own without cracking the finish.

I guess I am one of those weird people who actually love the classic Telecaster neck pickup sound and wouldn't want to live without it.

I love how my tele has 3 completely different tones across all three pickup selector options..

I just like Pete's playing. He does such varied styles depending on what they are demoing.

How many Custom Shop Fenders have you played?

Granted, I've played several that don't speak to me, but EVERY time I pick up my #1 after having not played it for several days, it blows me away. You would think that it would no longer surprise me after owning it for 4.5 years, but it still confounds me when I start playing it.

I swapped out much of the hardware on this USA 60th anniversary Tele I bought a while back, and was having fun playing it this weekend and today. I'm thinking it sounds good and feels good to play. Before ending my session for the evening, I picked up my CS Tele to play for a second and just cackled maniacally at how far superior this guitar is to the other one. I immediately start playing looser and faster. I'm hearing that perfect balance and clarity of every single string. I'm getting true dynamic range in each string that reacts so well to my playing.

Honestly, before buying this guitar, I would have been the first to spout that you can find other guitars in that $600-$2,000 range that are just as good, and that the diminishing returns just aren't worth it for the Custom Shop. I would have claimed that people who spent that kind of money on a guitar are just suckers. I am now fully a believer that owning a single instrument of this quality is better than owning 5 others of lesser quality.

I just ordered a guitar from Sweetwater. I'm not doing any spoilers and will post pics when it arrives.

Called them yesterday and my Sales Engineer was not in. I wanted to order anyway and they said no, it won't ship today anyway, we have a note for your sales engineer to call you tomorrow.

I was pretty slammed at work and didn't even think about the call today until almost 7pm. They never called.

The last two available units of the model I want sold this morning. More should be arriving on the 20th.

The rep on my Sales Engineer's team said that my Sales Engineer would call me when it ships. I told the rep, "You call me, he didn't call me today when he was supposed to and I lost out on two guitars today."

I hope that was recorded and gets reviewed by the guy that was supposed to call me. At a lot of jobs people probably surf the web when they want to kill time at work.

At Sweetwater they probably build a fort out of boxes and pallets in the corner of the warehouse and have garage band jams.

I get it. My strat and LP are both $2k plus and the difference between them and my other guitars are quite noticeable. That's why I'm dumping two of the guitars I bought early on…I never touch them anymore.

Definitely some day on the custom shop…I will have my Sherwood green one day. I'm just not there at the moment. I mean…a Ferrari would be head and shoulders better than my current ride but I'm not heading to the dealership tomorrow.
