Yeah, that creeps me out to see, but a lot of folks do that. Of course, I expect if from sites like Etsy or Pinterest (not that I frequent those!), but it lowers my trust in a guitar shop to see it. Makes me wonder how they might handle my guitar or the abuse a new guitar I might buy there has already seen...

Some Wolfgang models have quartersawn necks. I'm sure others do as well.

All Gibson les Pauls, and I think actually all Mahogany necked model Gibsons, are quartersawn. That's one of the reasons for their higher price. Quartersawing is more of a pain than flat sawing, and uses more wood because there is more scrap.

The only quartersawn Fenders are from the custom shop, or special runs if it is specced. All production fenders are flatsawn.

Here's a good illustration of the difference. It is using the term "Plain Sawn", but I believe that is synonymous with "Flat sawn":

I nearly pulled the trigger on impulse, but there is still a piece of me that cringes at spending over $2K on a Special that isn't a custom shop.

Still... I struggle with whether it's a good investment, period. Is this a guitar that will ever really be worth anything? Beato is pretty big in the GuitarTube world, but not really too famous. I doubt we'll see appreciation like we did with the Chris Cornell Signature 335. Looking back that that one, what a freaking steal that was for $2,500.

Honestly, I've never really researched the science behind it. It has always just been general knowledge in the guitar world that quartersawn necks are sturdier and less prone to warping as plain sawn.

Not sure how or if it applies, but I know wood bats break along the grain so a bat with less grain lines is more desirable. I would think that strength aspect might have something to do with that.

So, Fuller's called me back, today, and quoted me $5,500 for the custom shop tele. Fender is saying it would probably take 18-24 months to get.

$5,500 good lawd!

Yeah... i'm thinking about it. They require 50% down and the remainder on delivery.

On one hand, it's the guitar I have wanted for a long time. I have the money, so it's not a matter of it being outside of my means.

On the other hand, it's more than I've ever spent on a guitar and there is always a bit of a risk ordering a guitar without ever playing it, especially at that price.

I didn't even realize these were made or existed. Did a google search and cheapest I found was over $10,000 now used. A steal at the time indeed.

Oh... it's disgusting how expensive those have gotten. Hell, you could probably custom order an ES-345 from Gibson for less than one of those.

Lately, I keep coming across Warmoth Tele's and Warmoth necks. The little bit of research I was able to do sounds like these are nice quality necks and bodies, and perhaps guitars.

What is the opinion here? is there an advantage in going that direction?

No resale value, but you can build a guitar how you want it. I've priced it up several times in different ways. My only issue with Warmoth is they don't offer a Nitro lacquer option, so you would have to do that yourself if you want Nitro.

Never ended up pulling the trigger on one, myself.

Those are all very pretty! The complete warmoths and some of the necks have the Fender decals--is that common?

How does anybody authenticate guitars...

Some people will put them on. Their direct drop ins to Fender guitars which I think is when most people do that. On Warmoths, there should be a turtle branded into the neck pocket on the body and on the heel of the neck.

Should look like this. The Fender shapes will have the Lic by Fender as well.

I have a couple; they work well.

I prefer the multi-guitar stands I use because I like to line all my guitars up, but I still use those single stands for a few guitars.

Asked another way, what is the minimum set of guitars that one must have to be complete?

Even further, what are the "essential guitar types" that one must have to barely scrape by?

I think guitar prices are starting to come back to earth. I'm getting a few notifications a day about stuff in my reverb watch list dropping their price. Might be getting to a buy and hold situation before long.
