So... I have a conundrum...

https://reverb.com/item/58790344-fender-custom-shop-63-reissue-telecaster-nos-candy-apple-green

I've wanted a candy apple green '63 tele for a while now. I offered $2,750 but he countered at $2,800. I'm contemplating it but I really wanted a Tele custom style body with the double binding and candy green.

Don't know what to do...

If you really want one with the double binding then wait. Unless you won't be upset to "settle" on something that is close to what you want for almost $3k

Yeah... I believe I am talked out of it.

I agree. The guitar I truly want is basically my current CS Tele in Candy Apple Green, lol.

Is the $50 that big of a difference on a near $3k product?

Not the important part of my contemplation. He even said he would do the $2,750.

It's more about the investment in something that isn't quite what I've wanted for a while. It was about 85% of the way there.

I went ahead and got a Tremonti model that was mostly what I wanted (is tremolo rather than stoptail). Literally a few days after I got it one went up for a lower price that was exactly what I wanted. I'd definitely hold out.

Yeah, I've been on the look out for a while. The issue is Candy Green is only available through the custom shop with Fender. I can't even get it through the mod shop.

Finding one that is Candy Green and double bound is proving to be extremely difficult.

I mean... this is basically what I want in a 60's oval neck and NOS finish:

Pickups were supposed to arrive today. I've got no idea when they'll actually get here though. They were shipped USPS and it looks like the postal service, in their infinite stupidity, sat on them for three days after they received them. My Emerson set was sent USPS too. Hopefully the same thing doesn't happen.

I hate it when sellers use the post office. They're morons nationwide and then when they get to League City our local guys are even worse.

That sucks. I know how pumped one gets when expecting to enjoy a pickup project on the weekend.

The Emerson package that was ordered like three days later arrived from California today. It looks like maybe the pickups will get here tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Was doing my YouTube viewing and enjoyed this one. She is at Anderton's and talking to Pete about guitars and such, and I love this snippet from Pete at 13:10. This is my music creed.

Before this, they were talking about would you rather have a guitar that looked amazing but played okay, or played amazing but didn't look that good. I'm torn on that one, because I love guitars that look amazing, but my #1 is an ugly guitar that I really don't like the look of. It just plays so damn amazingly.

I was gonna just leave the switch in for now, but since they didn't leave me enough wire and I have to unsolder everything off of it anyway, I guess I'm going to pick one up.

A new Jack plate will also be in the way since heaven forbid Epiphone have a circular hole in their Jack plate.

They look nice. Waiting to get the Jack plate before I plug it in so I don't jerk anything around with it not being stable.

Downside to going to a guitar shop for a part: Danny D's had a semi hollow CE24 in the most gorgeous blue finish I've ever seen and now I'm trying to figure out if my wife would kill me for buying it or just make me sleep on the couch for a year.

Did you play it? Mine has a very strong low end that I don't really care for. The sonic difference between that and my ES-335 is huge.

Nah. I wanted to get back to the house so I could try to get finished on the LP. That and I really don't need to die.

She's with The Captain at 13:10. Pete is the other guy that is normally on the right in their videos.

Bah! Yeah, I misnamed. I didn't want to say "the Captain" because not everyone watches the channel, so may not know who that is.

They should be watching that channel! I love the jams at the beginning of their guitar review videos. Makes me want to practice and get a loop pedal. Danish Pete is a great player and Lee "The Captain" Anderton is also a good player. He doesn't have the speed that Pete used but his solos are tasteful.

I would say Pete doesn't play fast too often. He has great touch and phrasing.

So the full rundown of fun on the LP yesterday. Disassembly was easy. The only wire that had to be dealt with was the bridge ground which I just clipped as close to the pot as possible. Everything else unclipped/unscrewed and came right out.

I ended up having to drill out the holes for the volume pots as the push/pulls that were there had smaller shafts than the pots on the Emerson harness. The first one was a bit of a disaster and some small splinters came off the maple on the top. Luckily nothing that isn't covered by the knob. The second on I pressed the board that the Emerson harness was shipped in and drilled through that and had no problems. Still a bit of a squeeze for those pots but nothing too bad.

Getting the harness situated and soldering around it was a bit of a chore, but I managed. I do need a better soldering iron as there a few cold solders on the backs of pots that may need to be touched as it seemed the iron wasn't getting hot enough, but I always have issues soldering those and getting them to stick. It was a little nerve racking having to solder in to the same lug where they solder the resistor.

The damned jack plate was irritating to find at the end, but it's easily fixable.

I cheated a little with getting the pickups in the rings as the guitar came shorter springs so I used those instead of the ones that came with the Pearly Gates to save my sanity trying to get those things on.

All in all, it worked out ok provided everything works.

He is great! But he does play fast sometimes. He was cutting loose a bit when they did a demo of the EVH guitars.

He plays every thing well though. Pick. Finger style. Hybrid.

Yeah, that's the issue with foreign made guitars. You sometimes have to route for different measurements for pots or tuners.

Keep the carboard emerson sent to you. That's a great tool for building harnesses, if you ever want to. Generally, I do all my soldering outside of the electronics route, then install everything once it's all soldered. The leads are all usually long enough to accommodate for this.

I did buy my more powerful soldering iron over a year ago, so I don't run into those issues. This thing has no problem soldering to ground on the back of the pot.

Did you replace the switch with a switchcraft? You do that, then all of your electronics are top of the line. The next upgrades I would look at would be tuners, nut, bridge, and tailpiece. I would confirm if the bridge and tailpiece that came with the guitar are tune-o-matic or a cheaper knock-off.

This on the low end of even Epiphone so I'd be shocked if it's not a knock off. Even more so given how awful the pickups were that were in it.

I went all parts on the switch for now. That's the easiest part to solder though so no problem to swap out later if need be.

There's one of these for sale near Houston. I'm going to be near Houston tomorrow. I might buy it.

I've settle on an S-style for my reintroduction to electric guitars and not looking to break the bank just yet.

I have been eyeing this scratch and dent Squier - https://empiremusic.com/shop/squier-classic-vibe-50s-stratocaster-white-blonde-05467-b-stock/

or found a 2013 Player (MIM) strat in great condition on FB for $450 (would bid $400).

What say y'all? Either of the above or keep looking?

I would definitely choose the MIM strat over the Squier. Not even a choice IMO.

For not much more money you can go brand new. Sweetwater has these. Check out their site.

I know Anderton's sells equipment so they aren't going to bash them in a product review video, but Pete really seems to like these Sires and is amazed by the price.
