I did not realize that Fender owned that type of interest in Gretsch.

So far I am leaning towards a thinner neck. Those have felt better. And I want a tremolo. Just a standard tremolo. Doesn't need to be a Floyd. Some of y'all have scared me off of those a bit.

All tremolos are a pain. You will need to really focus on proper setup and maintenance of a termolo to not constantly fight tuning stability. This is why I don't play with a floating tremolo.

My CE's tremolo works pretty well, but I replaced with with the authentic PRS USA version. My Gibson ES-330 has a Bigsby, which I had to fight for a while to get it just right, from a setup standpoint. I finally have it where I can play for a while without fighting tuning stability.

It's just the nature of tremolos. Unless you spend over $3,000 for the guitar, you will fight tuning stability.

If ya want a floyd, get one. Just be aware of what you're getting into. They're fun as hell until you have to adjust anything

My advice is don't get a floyd. Get a simple tremolo w/out a locking nut and deck it so you can do double stops and not go out of tune if you break a string or go into drop d.

I love double locking floating trems. String bending is easier. I can "dive-bomb" all day without going out of tune (non-Floyd). For drop-D tunings, fixed bridge is the way to go. I haven't tried the EVH one that can drop the D.

What else besides EVH guitars has one?

I'm not aware of other ones. I meant to say for non-EVH, it's a manually tuned down.

Ok. Gotcha.

It would be cool if someone invented a guitar pickup that "digitally transposes" only the low-E string pole magnet down to D. A simple press of a button & it can be changed in the middle of a song -- no mechanical hardware changes. It would need some low-pass filters so the adjacent strings won't be affected.

Let's try a different edited version of the pawn shop Strat body.

Those look like Lace Alumitone pickups.

I've never heard of them. Are they good?

Not that I would buy a project Strat with no truss rod for $700.

I've never heard of them, but I'm a purist. I want low output, handwound pickups.

When I had my Warmoth guitars I was on their forum and someone put them in a LP model of theirs. I haven't ever heard them I don't think. I just recognized that funky look they have.

Found the post. This is the guitar. I think she yanked them out pretty quick and replaced them. Sounded like they were somewhat worthless clean and really muddy when used with distortion.

I really wanted to grab this body when Warmoth had it on their site. The figuring is just insane. There was a flame koa neck they had up at the same time that I wanted to get for it.

How hard is it to build a Warmoth guitar? Who all here has done it?

This PRS "Paul's Guitar" came to me in Reverb as a suggested listing. I will need to read up on Paul's Guitar to what makes it special in the SE line.

It's been listed for two months? Geez. It says three people have it in their carts. It has said that for a few days. How does that work exactly? People put it on their cart and wait for the seller to respond to offers or wait to get their wife to approve it or what?

When I bought my acoustic I didn't wait at all. I had seen two others get listed and go quickly. I saw a new listing at lunch and jumped on it within an hour or so.

What would be the point of keeping it in your cart for days other than negotiations?

Depends on experience. They're all bolt-on so joining the neck to the body is easy. You do have to drill pilot holes for tuners and pickup rings and solder the connections to switches/pots. If you go with one with a TOM bridge, they'll install the plugs for the bridge for you.

You can order guitars from them either finished or unfinished.

They do good work and their finishes are well done.

The biggest benefit is having the ability to select all your parts, materials, etc.

At the end of the day, even if you can't assemble it yourself, you can gather the parts and have a luthier do it.

One word of caution, if you ever have to sell you will never get back out what you put in because they get classified as a kit guitar.

I wouldn't think a guitar you put together yourself would be one you would sell or expect good money from should your decide to sell.

They have good quality hardware?

I've sold three. Decided I wanted some other guitars.

The only things they make themselves are bodies and necks. Those are top shelf in my opinion. They're licensed with Fender so they can make all their body styles and headstock shapes exactly. The difference being you're not likely to get the figured tops and exotic neck woods for anywhere near the same price.

The rest of the hardware you'd grab yourself. They have a shop to buy from, but it's all stuff made elsewhere.

I'm spent time on the Warmoth site to try and assemble a guitar I really want, but they won't route it exactly how I want to have it, and I don't have a router.

I enjoy videos by those guys. Today i learned about the PLEK machine from Rhett Shull and a guy at Righteous Guitars. That store looks really good.

Do any of you guys know anything about Michael Kelly guitars? I'm eyeballing their acoustics.

I met Tracy Hoeft at NAMM circa 2007/8, he sent me a really nice acoustic/electric fretless bass from the custom shop to play and evaluate. I dropped it and broke it one night about a year later. I was embarrassed to admit I ruined it so didn't say anything, just left it in it's case in splinters. In 2017 ran into him again and confessed. He sent me a new model. They are good people and I have personally never played anything but their basses but they are beautifully crafted and sound great. Unless you drop them.
