My wife thinks it's bad now while only one of our five is out of the house and is still not independent. Fast forward to the others being adults and oh my. Or hell, even just to me not having to write a $1000 check for child support every month.

After having rotator cuff surgery three weeks ago, I finally loosened the sling and plinked around on one of my guitars for a few minutes. Fun stuff.

So going completely contrary to the thread title, what's y'all's longest tenured guitar? Here is mine. It's a Takamine GB-7C. The Garth Brooks guitar. I got it when I was at A&M in 2002. I actually got some Seagulls to stop taking it to gigs because I had several friends have gear walk away. It's not worth much of anything with all the wear and tear (kind of ironic given what intentionally aged instruments go for) but if it walked off I'd be devastated.

Of course, immediately after posting, I realized that isn't my longest tenured guitar. It's just my longest working guitar. I tried to sand through the finish on this one and royally screwed it up before I knew how to wire them. It was a blue metallic finish and I heard all MIM strats had bursts underneath the solid finish (not sure about all but mine did). Tried to sand it and bit into the wood a bunch. It's now a sticker guitar. Maybe one day I wire it up and go, but for now it's a display.

I've got a Takamine I bought in 1998. I don't have a photo right now but it's not special to look at. Plays fine. Not great. Sounds good. Not great.

I took it with me on my last out of town trip because I would rather not lose my Yamaha or my PRS if my vehicle got broken into while I was stopped along the way (unlikely since I try to make Buc-ee's my stop and their parking lots are always active).

Mine is a Washburn XB-100 bass I got in the 9th grade.

Still play it fairly regularly.

The seller of my new ES-335 is waiting for his shipping box to arrive and then will be sending it. Can't get here soon enough!

not sure where to post this, but a very good friend of mine is a luthier out of the Kenney, TX area. He makes both electrics and acoustics. Some fantastic builds. Look him up on facebook at Mistress Guitars. I will try and link a cool interview he did with the Kenney Store. I figured some of you guitar nerds might be interested.

I get emails from StewMac all the time since ordering some stuff from them. I see those kits and all the cool tools they sell for making guitars and repairing them and think "I want to try that".

Then I realize I would end up spending many thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours to possibly build a dog of an instrument.

Or not! Maybe I'm a natural luthier!

I built a Warmoth guitar and I'm no expert. Granted, the finish was already done on the body, but the rest is fairly simple. Just have to make sure to measure and drill holes in the right spot. The only downside with them is they're not particularly cheap and if you ever decide to sell you're going to eat a lot of cash.

Some of the other kits aren't as bad though.

Are the amp kits I've seen any good? StewMac has some tweed amp kit for $800. Guess it's supposed be like a Fender Twin?

Seems high for a kit.

Mine left Hodgkins, IL this afternoon and is still on track for Thursday.

I've had no experience with amp kits, but my uneducated take would be the price depends on the quality of the components and what they're emulating. If the components are good quality and the amp being replicated is significantly more expensive, then it's a good deal.

I've wanted to do a Mojotone amp build for a while now. They give you everything you need in the kit, so it looks like just grown up Legos.

Longest tenured is my 2009 Carvin. The N4 is a 1995 but I acquired it in '16.

I have a mid/late 90s Ibanez Artwood acoustic I bought new while at A&M in the late 90s. It's in a pile of items for a dumpster run in the garage. Hasn't had strings in over 15 years, isn't salvageable, and we no longer desire turning it into artwork.
Staff - take out the trash.

What model Carvin? I had a TL60 that I bought in 2001 - quilted maple top w/ blueburst finish. I still kick myself for selling it.

Do acoustic guitars count?

I have a Martin 0018 that my dad bought for me back in 1972. Including hard shell case, it cost him $300.

Looks like my guitar showed up at the Houston distribution center. Set to be delivered tomorrow. If it shows up at my local facility today I may see if I can just go pick it up.

Anybody ever played a G&L S-500 Strat???
I've had one for ~18 years or so, love that guitar. Swapped out the PU's a couple of times, but other than that it's stock and has been my workhorse guitar in our Pink Floyd tribute for that long. Great neck, easy to play, very high quality components. Heavier than a typical strat, but I like that personally. Mine is a blue burst w/ bird's eye maple neck.

I've seen some good ones on Reverb. Seem to be much less expensive than a Fender for some reason.

Saw one go on another board for $550 with a hard case. Seems like a good deal.

Do they play as well as a PRS SE model?

Mine is not a Tribute series, it was made in Fullerton (not Indonesia), so I can't say for certain whether the Tribute series would play as well/better than a PRS SE. But I KNOW for a fact mine does, as I had a PRS SE for a few years as well. I've heard good things about the Tribute series G&L stuff, but again, I cannot say for sure as I haven't played any, I would go play some at a Guitar Center if you can get to one. The American made S-500's tend to go for $1000+ (give or take based on condition, etc.). Love mine though!

Thanks! That is good to know.

A Tribute is more like a Fender Player series? Is the at a fair comparison?

I would say so, the Tributes are just made in Indonesia (I believe) and I think the Player Series are made in Mexico. Not sure of the specific differences, but IMHO G&L are excellent instruments that have a quality feel.

I don't have an electric yet and am trying to see what feels right for me as a first electric. I'm intrigued by the G&L.

There was a WVH bomber model that I played a few weeks back that felt good. It was used AND scratch and dent. Had some pretty big nicks along the top bending and some paint chips missing.

The Floyd Rose was not a floating tremolo. It was a "decked" or "set" model, which I didn't know was a thing. I thought they were always floating.
