Random thought of the night...I really don't like the way my Epi LP sounds through my bassbreaker. I need to fix that. The Casino sounds absolutely amazing through it.
Just my kind of topic. Let's discuss. What don't you like? How do you set your bassbreaker? Have you done any hardware replacement on the LP?
If it were my Epiphone, I would do the following:
- All new hardware. Set of new Grover locking tuners or classic Kluxon and Gibson OEM bridge/tailpiece. You may also want to look at whether you also need to replace the studs in the guitar. Sometimes they are cheap aluminum or something, which can definitely affect your guitar's tone.
- I'm a snob for bone nuts, though my 330 does have a nylon nut because that's how they used to make them, and it's a Reissue. Other than that, I always do a nut replacement to bone. This is the one thing I would bring into my local guitar shop to do.
- Electronics. Buy (4) CTS audio taper, 500K pots and either an orange drop cap or Emerson bumblebee cap. Emerson makes a great pre-wired kit, though it's pricey: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/LPBBLong--emerson-custom-prewired-kit-for-gibson-les-paul-guitars-long-shaft
- New switchcraft toggle switch. Why? BECAUSE, MAN!
But most importantly, new pickups. I would definitely replace the pickups in that guitar, and it wouldn't even be a question. The only question is what sound you are looking for. Are you looking to play metal or more classic rock.
Once you choose the pickups, then make sure they are not too close to the strings. Too many people move pickups so close to the strings, and it just doesn't sound clear and articulate; it sounds muddy and boomy.
