i see a lot of talk about it in the sweetwater guitar reviews. it's pretty steep though, right? like $200+?

curious the difference between that and a really good setup (i understand that PLEK is done by machine). not sure how true it is but tone shop here in dallas actually markets themselves as the only shop in texas with a PLEK machine. apparently there used to be a shop in austin as well but no more.

Decently priced CS Strat: https://reverb.com/item/41651571-custom-shop-fender-stratocaster

I would call Fender and get the specs on it based on that SN, though.

Has anyone here ever had a guitar PLEKed? I'm wondering if it's worth the cost.
No idea. The only time I've seen it done was on Rhett Schull's youtube channel when he had a Les Paul done at Righteous Guitars in Georgia.

Isn't it basically polishing the frets down to ideal height? Sounds different than a setup to me.

Pretty much. It just does it more accurately.

I've got a sanding block for 12" radius guitars and have had good luck with it for minor work. But I wouldn't mind seeing what a PLEK job would do.

Damn... I will do just about any king of maintenance on my own guitars, but I would be too scared to file frets down, like that. Then you have to crown them, file the edges, and polish.

The most I have down with frets is touch up the edges to create a little more of a roll.

Speaking of fret work, anybody here own a guitar with stainless frets? I know Suhr guitars have them, and they are available on Fender CS models. I've never played them, but they supposedly don't wear like nickel.

I have not. I love the look of Nickel hardware, but couldn't provide a comparison on feel.

I do hate chrome hardware on a guitar, personally.

They are much smoother on bends, assuming they were polished right initially, and tend to stay that way. They also have a bit more zing to them than your standard nickel frets IMO, but that's not an opinion shared by everyone.

I had a couple guitars with them. They were solid and didn't seem to wear like others.

My Carvin has SS. No complaints from me. Fastest neck I own and the frets are one of several factors that contribute,

That is absolute perfection. I'm thankful when they're that expensive sometimes though. It keeps me from tormenting myself.

Got the mandolin about a year ago here in CS (still don't know how to play it worth a damn) but did just get this custom hanger maker to design this for me which just came in and is of the late, GREAT Jeff Austin of Yonder Mountain String Band.

The cool thing is the maker of the hangers was able to take an autograph I got in 2013 of all of YMSB on a 1/50 skatedeck they released signed by the band at the Granada Theater in Dallas just before Jeff "left" the band and he was able to use that exact signature to etch it into the wood. I chose the quote and graphic. RIP, Jeff.

I've watched a good bit of Anderton's and some of Rhett's stuff. Good stuff.

I also like Rig Rundown and Guitar Moves (both depending on the guest).

Anybody have experience with Nylon crossovers? I am really getting into Jerry Reed,Chet Atkins stuff but just
can't stomach the 2" neck on traditional Classical guitars. I know they make crossovers now (nylon string guitars with narrower necks meant for steel or electric players as an easier transition. I'm currently looking at Cordoba fusion series

Buddy of mine has this guitar, and for the price I think it sounds and plays excellent. Is it the finest you'll ever hear/play? No, but to have the nylon strings available is very cool at this price.

Yea I have looked at that one too. I like the 1.875" nut. That's perfect. I would probably go with the electric version with a pickup.

I guess I'll continue to be that guy. There's demos and things like that but they also have some somewhat lengthy episodes where they go through some historical guitars of theirs with Paul and talk about them. I may have shared the episode where they went through all the various Dragon guitars before.

Good lord.

I wish I had the money to grab those kinds of things.

I know John 5 and Billy Gibbons both have pretty epic collections.

Amazing thing to own.

I think the highest amount for a guitar may end up being Jimmy's #1, if it ever sells after he passes away. Already a Burst, though I doubt that even matters with something like that.

Can't think of another guitar that would go higher than Jimmy's Burst. When thinking about other artists of that caliber, I can't think of one with as iconic of a guitar.

Is that Willie Nelson's? I'm guessing because I think I've seen him play a guitar with similar patina.

Speaking of that one, I'll have to find it, but there's a great two part video done by his luthier in Austin going over giving it a tune up and doing some maintenance on Trigger. As I recall it's got a bridge out of a different guitar.
