I had a good friend of mine play our annual summer bash this past weekend and here was the guitar setup. He also plays an old Yamaha keyboard and has a ten pedal setup with two loopers.

He's written his own original solo music and been in countless Dallas bands for over 20 years but really came into his own as a one man band when corona hit last year and started doing these four hour shows from his home.

More recently over the past several years he's been the road guitarist for Don Henley and also for Max Weinberg's Jukebox and also plays in *******s of Soul that D/FW residents may be familiar with that were just getting going before covid shut them down for a bit. Here's a pic of the guitar setup. The four on the left are mine previously pictured in other posts and then the three on the right are the three out of his 46 he owns that he decided to bring.

He played for 5 hours and 50 minutes without a break, which ended up being the single longest performance of his entire career. It was flat out amazing. That Gretsch White Falcon of his sounded so killer.

This one tripped me out for a minute. I thought there's no way a reliced Les Paul was up for $1699. From the description though it sounds like somebody did it themselves. Though I will say, it does look like they did a fairly decent job if you're into that kind of thing.

I don't get the relic fad. Relic it yourself by playing it for a few decades.

I agree. Especially given it tends to mean you're going to pay a whole lot more for a guitar they beat up on purpose. About the only ones I kinda get are the ones made as a tribute to a particular guitar but even those are silly. And even more expensive.

The new guy has arrived. It's actually more figured than it look in the pictures online and there's even a little streakiness in the fret board.

Kind of a misconception.

You don't really pay more for relicing. Relic'ed guitars are generally from the custom shop. A custom shop guitar that is relic'ed generally costs the same as a NOS version of that CS guitar.

I have told the story of my relic'ed Tele earlier in this thread, but there definitely is something to them. I get those who don't like them, but the idea that you can "relic" your own Strat by playing it a long time only really applies to those with Nitro finishes. Those Poly finishes can chip, but they don't wear in the same way as a nitro finish.

Relic'ed guitars are like buying a pair of worn in jeans. Yeah, you can buy a new pair of jeans and wear them in yourself. With a guitar, it can take over 20 years of playing to naturally relic a guitar, unless you area professional gigging musician.

This listing is very tempting. Custom Shop Strat for $2,300 with the perfect neck shape and frets, for me. Not to mention, it is an ash body.

IDK... if this is still here, tomorrow, I may be making a purchase...

That's badass looking. I'm a little surprised with some of the wear on a five year old guitar, but otherwise it's phenomenal.

The only wear and tear that gives me pause is the decal. I don't mind some patina here and there, but I want that Fender decal in order...
Quincey P. Morris

Certainly nothing crazy. That wear at the neck could just be playing style and probably is, but yeah, a peeling decal could be a concern as that seems like something that might continue without some kind of fix to stop it. Either way, it's a beautiful strat. I'm generally not one for solid colors, but that blue would be one I'd be all over.

A great example of why it's better to use a guitar box when shipping. This isn't mine and the person said it made it unscathed, but there was virtually no chance the box wasn't going to get crushed in some way. It's just lucky it wasn't in a way that hurt the guitar.

yikes. yeah i definitely take a pause and deep breath every time i'm about to open a box. no two are ever packaged/wrapped the same.

Did it pass Sweetwater's 55-point inspection?

I know this is a PRS thread (and I own a PRS Custom 24), and this sounds like heresy, but never in a million years I thought I would like my Ibanez RG550 better. Really like the jumbo frets, super thin neck & flatter neck radius for shredding. Didn't realize how much Steve Vai infuenced the design specs. Will get an AZ series later. The PRS will be the rhythm guitar.

I also prefer maple necks with traditional dot inlays -- no birds, lightening bolts, barbed-wire, etc.

Apparently TexAgs web filters hate Zelda Rubinstein saying "All Are Welcome, There is peace and serenity in the guitar thread."

Weird.

I am still trying to find a way to make either of my PRS's sound the way I want them to. They are both very 'muddy' sounding, to me.

I guess I could drastically change my settings on my amp, but my tele, 330, LP, and strat all sound fantastic, so I would assume the amp is not the culprit.

Really, the only reasons I haven't decided to sell both my PRS S2 or CE is because the neck and fretboard of the S2 is absolutely amazing, and the CE just looks so damn beautiful. Same reason I haven't sold my green LP, though I never play it.

If I were to have to pick one guitar manufacturer, I would have to go with Fender. I am just a fan of single-coil pickup guitars. I'm actually looking very closely at this beauty: https://reverb.com/item/41396993-fender-dave-s-guitar-shop-limited-edition-1962-reissue-stratocaster-sonic-blue

I have offered $1,900, but haven't heard back yet. Something is keeping me from spending the asking price, but I really love that Sonic Blue, as well as the thin nitro finish and all the specs.

If he doesn't accept my offer, I think I may finally take a shot at a Warmoth build. Thinking a tele thinline body with P-90s.
Quincey P. Morris
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
That's a beauty. If you end up going the Warmoth route you won't be disappointed. Outstanding quality and options. The only downsides are they apparently don't have as much to buy from the site right now as usual so there can be a wait if they don't have what you want and the resell value is nonexistent because they get treated similarly to Chinese kit guitars.
Lathspell
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Unfortunately, I still can't get them to build one exactly how I want it. I want a tele body with a bigsby and either P-90s or TV Jones Classics.

They don't offer those routing options for a Tele thinline body, so I would have to drill my own bridge and bigsby holes. I'm afraid I would crack the finish if I did this.

how exactly does the warmoth thing work? i haven't looked into it. they ship you the parts and you put it together?
Quincey P. Morris
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
Yes. There's varying levels of customizations. You can order full custom or you can buy from their showroom. They send you the neck and body and you get the rest of the parts. From there you either assemble yourself or have a luthier do it.

Have you called or emailed? They might do those if you ask, but it might have to be off their website.
