My brother in law brought me this guitar a tenant left at his rent property. I'm assuming it's some kind of super cheap, Walmart guitar, but I figured it might be something to mess with in terms of refinishing. There's no brand name anywhere on it. Pretty sure all the electronics are toast as the pots won't even turn. Its also got some kind of odd joint between the neck and the headstock. Makes me wonder if the headstock was broken off or something.

Is the neck straight? If not, is the truss rod maxed?

You should definitely use it to work on your guitar maintenance. Learn to level the frets and round the fretboard.

Any guitar can feel good to play if it is setup well.

Seems like it, but I haven't gotten it strung up yet. This thing looks like it's been sitting in a garage or something for a while.

This thread seems snake bit with shipping lately. I just had to email the shop I ordered that green guitar from because the shipping number still isn't bringing anything back from fedex. They responded quickly that apparently they can't find it so the guy is going to have to look at their security cameras this afternoon and see where it went. I had liked their Facebook page last week and they had posted videos then of someone walking out with an acoustic. Seems like they need to work on their security. Guess we'll see what they say.

So the end result is the guitar got moved to a spot where no cameras can see and disappeared. They had another in Eriza Verde that they offered another 10% off of. Was all set to take it and found out that the purchase didn't go through right on paypal to get the six month financing that I needed so I had to just get a refund. They said they'll still offer it once the money is back on my account if it's still there but we'll see.

I'm sure they're already on it, but my first thought was they should probably be talking to the person they saw moving it to that spot. Maybe it was just bad luck, but they have a bunch of cameras supposedly and saw it moved there. And yes, thieves are the freaking worst. They had a post on their Facebook page looking for a couple that just walked out with a guitar. Sure makes you wonder if they've got an employee complicit.

So I have a question for the group that isn't necessarily guitar related.

The shop that I'd bought that guitar from offered an additional 10% off for the inconvenience (seems like 10% off is almost universal on PRS guitars through stores and they've offered to double it) and that seems to be still valid if the other green guitar is available once the refund goes through. While that would mean I'd get a great price on a brand new guitar, I'm luke warm on taking that extra discount for something that is already screwing the store on the other side. I have no reason to believe it was anything underhanded on their part. I'm inclined to decline the extra discount given those facts. Am I crazy for doing so? I really don't want to hose these guys further because somebody else did something sh***y.

Many guitar stores sell on consignment, so the guitar store wouldn't be losing any money. Fairly certain you won't be screwing the guitar store.

What pickups come stock? If it were me, I would put a set of Seymour duncan antiquities in there. Granted, I've never actually replaced electronics in a hollowbody.

Finally got the refund situation taken care of, though I still had to deal with PayPal on part of that. Ended up ordering the other Eriza Verde they had that was slightly less figured on top and got the 20% off. So end result is after all the annoyance got a $2000 guitar for $1600.

Now PayPal, the refunded the money not to the transaction it came from that was inadvertently a cash advance. Nope, they refunded it to the stuff I had that was interest free and wiped all that out and left me with $900 collecting cash advance level interest. Had to call them for a second time a while ago to get it straightened out. We'll see if I have to call again.

Anyone ever buy a travel guitar? I never have room to bring a guitar on trips so I've always been curious about them. I know Martin and Washburn both have some goofy looking acoustics and there are some electric ones as well.

So during my issues with buying that green guitar I was looking around and had thought about pulling the trigger on this. Thing is, the pictures for this guitar and one they have for full price are the same. I had reached out to see if they had pictures of the actual guitar. They said they did not, that they were the same, and generally didn't seem to have any idea why I would want them even after I explained that figuring can be highly variable. They want $2159 for the new one though, at the moment, they're taking 20% off of that if you just put it in your cart and go through the step where they get an email.

Today I see a thread on the PRS Owners Facebook page with a guy who ordered it and wasn't thrilled that it clearly wasn't the guitar in the pictures. He said it showed up stapled in the box like it had never been opened. Obviously they still have it up for sale at that price. The whole thing seems like a scam to me., I'm just not sure what the scam is. Why offer a guitar for almost $700 off for being a demo model when it appears to be new for seemingly no reason?

I have not. For the true travel guitars, I could never get past the shape. For stuff like the Baby Taylors and Baby Martins though, I've played on a few and they're great instruments for what they are.

I've not heard of that company. Buying a guitar, unseen and unplayed will always be a gamble, unfortunately, Unless you buy through an established retailer like Sweetwater, CME, or others like them. If you can't call someone and feel comfortable with them, I would be wary spending more than $1K with anyone.

Granted, that's from someone who has bought at least $9K worth of guitars off Reverb. But I do it with the understand it may not work out.

My experience so far with my S2 and CE is that the S2 just seems to play so much better. I can't get my head around why that is. Both of them, however, really lose articulation as I drive the amp. I love the look of the Eriza Verde CE, but it still just hasn't done anything for me as far as how it sounds. I'm thinking about trying out some humbucker sized Lollartrons to see if that helps and makes it unique enough to keep, long term.

So, after doing some research, I did something to my Strat, for the first time. I bought my American Original 60's Strat because I really wanted a Nitro finished Strat and didn't want to spend $4,000 on a CS version. I also love Fenders when built more to vintage specs.

Have been loving the guitar and playing the hell out of it; especially after doing my project to roll the fretboard to my liking. The only issue with it has been the lacquered neck. Playing for a while, it definitely gets very sticky. After doing some research, I finally tried to do the scotchbrite trick on the neck and, damn, does it work well. This thing now feels like a satin finish and my hand flies over the the back of the neck.

IDK, but for some reason, I don't have any reservations screwing around with this guitar that cost me $2,000 because it is a Strat and I just feel like Strats are made to be tinkered with and beat up. Would never do that to my LP or 330.

I have some mental hangup ever saying my #1 is a Strat, because I love my Tele, 330, and LP; however, I just keep finding myself picking that thing up. It is so much fun to play.

Nice thing with strats is at least if you ever truly messed up the neck there are ample replacements.

Yeah, I found those guys through their postings on Reverb. The guy that posted about it doesn't seem to think it's fake or anything, but the whole thing is weird and doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

The PRS page is full of interesting stuff today. The person selling this has apparently listed his homemade weight relief as an upgrade. It is at least an SE so he didn't destroy a massively expensive instrument.
