I have no idea how Anderton's doesn't have more YouTube subscribers. Their product reviews are really helpful and often entertaining. Pete is such a good player and everyone else is really fun to watch as well.

They are frequent viewing for me.

Anybody need a five-guitar rack?

Is this a good deal and a good product?

Be extremely careful with cheap racks. If you have nitro finished guitars, the dyes they use for the plastics of the racks can cause discoloring of the guitar lacquer.

Good to know! I had not considered that issue.

I don't. I'm just a fan of Marty Stuart and Cousin Kenny Vaughan.

Do any of you gig? I stopped a few years after covid stuff started, but I'm looking to get back out. I sold my PA stuff. Probably looking to grab a couple of JBL powered speakers and a board. Preference is to get a wireless board that runs mostly through an iPad for EQ. Just doing solo acoustic stuff. Anybody have any preferences for equipment beyond instruments?

I played with my cousin's band about 10 years ago for a few shows in Dallas, but that's really it. I've always just played more for me.

I will say, those few times I played, I had a blast doing so and was surprised how I had absolutely no stage fright. I've never been afraid of public speaking, but thought I would be really nervous when having to play the guitar. Muscle memory just hit, and it was fun.

Type all that to say, I don't know much about equipment for PA's and such for live gigging.

Playing an instrument never bothered me. Singing took a while to get used to in front of people. I've always done solo acoustic stuff so it can be a bit daunting.

Yeah... I'd definitely need a few drinks in me for that. Similar to getting up and doing karaoke. I also have a big problem with being a perfectionist. It causes me to not do things unless I know I will do them to my best ability.

Totally get that, but I tell my kids that are in band and orchestra: nobody knows the music like you know the music. Mistakes happen, but you're the only one that notices them.

I know a couple of guys that gig solo acoustic. Know a couple others that gig together acoustic or sometimes go full band. I can ask them what they use.

As for the stage fright thing, I played in bands in high school and never considered stage fright. Having been in choral music for years maybe it just didn't bother me, but honestly I think it was more just focusing on not sounding like a high school band.

We didn't have time to be scared!

Yeah... that doesn't help me. I notice mistakes when people play all the time. If someone is pitchy or misses a note, someone who knows will hear it. I'm thinking about the people who will hear it, not the majority of people who don't have the ear for it.

Similar to how I view my ability in music. I come from a truly musical family. My grandfather, aunt, and extended family are amazing musicians, and have played professionally all their lives. So, I tend to compare myself to them. It's the type of family that, if you start playing out of tune, someone will yell from the other room, "tune your B string, it's flat!"

Yeah, that's definitely a different setting.

I mean... I don't disagree with them. It drives me insane when people sing or play out of tune. It is like nails on chalk board for me. Granted, my ear's ability to hear pitch is not as tuned in as others in my family.

FYI if any of you are in the market for a Taylor acoustic, their "Get One Gift One" deal is pretty damned strong. You buy any full size acoustic (including Academy models) and you can get one of 3 guitar deals:

-Baby Taylor for $99
-GS Mini Mahogany for $199
-GS Mini-e Koa for $299

Pretty awesome, I got an Academy nylon string, and then got the GS Mini-e Koa for $299, excellent deal! Will post when the GS Mini comes in.

I played a smaller Taylor at GC, think it was the mini Koa, and it played great and had a really good sound for a small guitar.

Are the strings on special any good?

I mean... they're fine. Along the same lines as Ernie Ball.

Everyone has their preferences. My issue with Ernie Ball and the regular D'Addarios is that they sound good when you first put them on, but they aren't very long lasting. The NY XL versions sound great for a long time. I go a long time without replacing my strings; but they are definitely pricier.

I used to buy DR before switching to the NY XL strings.

EDIT: These are actually priced very well. I'm gonna pick up a couple sets: https://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/daddario-nyxl0942-super-light-3-pack-electric-guitar-strings/j27603000000000?rNtt=d%27addario%20ny%20xl&index=5

Yeah, that link for Musicians Friend is the cheapest I've ever seen those strings. They are usually anywhere from $12-$17 a pack. Getting them for under $9 is hellagood. I still have 2 sets in the wrappers, but figured I would stock 6 more for future string changes.

If you're new to guitar, I don't know if you will be able to tell a difference. I've just found them to stay crisp, punchy, and bright for longer than any other string I have used. Intonation, bending, and tuning is also impeccable with those strings.

The name of this G&L model is just too close to a medical or anatomical term.

I'm guessing this model is similar to a Player series Strat?

Anyone ever played a Mayones guitar? I've listened to Jakob Zytecki a lot over the last year or so. He often plays a custom of their tele style "Legend" model. I want a tele but not a fender and like their take on the shape. Obviously if I get one I'll play just like him, right?

He's killer by the way. Like polyphia does a lot of instrumental with clean tones. If you like this song I highly recommend stream his album Nothing Lasts Nothing's Lost. He sings on a couple and has a good voice. Very chill atmospheric background music.

Bought me a new 5-guitar stand, so I can line up all my electrics. The only electric not in this pic is my PRS CE, which is in the case because I'm trying to sell it. My Taylor is on it's own stand and my old Gibby 12-string stays in the case. I love these stands because they use dye-less rubber, so the nitro lacquer doesn't absorb any colors.

Funny thing on that Schecter at the very back. My dad bought that for me during my freshman year of college, back in '05. It was a huge step up from my Squire strat pack, and cost around $650. I had installed a pair of Gibson Burstbuckers in it several years ago but haven't played in in several years because it was in the case. Damn... that guitar sounds absolutely fantastic. It sounds much better than my Green LP Classic.

I've been meaning to ask you is that two of the same white guitar? My buddy from the Dirty Knobs is playing the same one live as we speak. Matthew Sweet "Sick of Myself"

ETA: For maroon barchetta, I think Red Barchetta is about to get played as well coincidentally.

One is Sonic Blue and the other is Olympic White. The blue one is a Dave's Guitar shop '62 Reissue thin skin, and the white one is an American Original 60's.

I wanted a nitro lacquered strat, so bought the American Original guitar. Found out it had a poly undercoat, but I liked it a lot. Then I found the blue on on Reverb for a great price used, so bought it after researching them. Absolutely great guitar. I keep the white one in Eb and the blue in standard. I swapped both sets of pickups with SD Antiquity Surfers.

They each definitely feel different. The AO has more bottom end and the '62 RI has a great balance across all spectrums.

Very nice.

My request got played last after four hours tonight. "Love Reign O'er Me" that I just saw at the Hollywood Bowl a few weeks ago with a 30 piece orchestra. What a song.

For anybody ever wanting to kill time and watch some quality playing, my buddy finally has a website up with all 83 shows played since the Covid series started.

Episode #50 is by far the best if you're into the year 1971. I got a book recently "Never a Dull Moment" about that year of music. It's a great one for anybody looking for a good breakdown of that year.

https://www.chrisholtmusic.net/art

Sidenote: I would have been in the market for a new guitar had Germany not jobbed me out of 2K vs Japan today. :-/
ETA: If you want to see a lot of badass guitars played in this video that have been discussed and owned by some in this thread here you go. (Not trying to promote by buddy...he needs none anymore...just sharing in the groove).
