First four episodes were really tough to get through. It does pick up after that but it is not anywhere close to scary or frightening as Hill House.

The lesbian relationship added nothing to the story other than trying to be "edgy", I suppose. Detracted from the rest of it. The whole story would have benefitted from being condensed to 5 episodes.

I guess it gave her an out with the audience on dropping him instead of just the simple explanation that she was WAY out of his league.

bummer to hear these reviews. was looking forward to this one but glad i won't be wasting my time i guess.

Personally I liked it. I still prefer Hill House, but I still enjoyed Bly.

That's how unimpressed I am. I'll get around to it eventually lol.

That finale got me.

Other than the penultimate episode (yawn), I really enjoyed that. I'm actually a little surprised at how mixed the reaction has been.

I'm currently on episode 8. It definitely isn't as frightening or engaging as Hill House, but it's still really well done.....especially starting around episode 5.

I've been really impressed with the actress that plays Flora. I looked her up and thought it was funny that pretty much the only other thing she's done is be the voice of Peppa Pig.

Episode 5 gave me heavy "The Constant" vibes.

I agree the acting was great by all and the structure of the story over three time periods was pretty cool, but it definitely wasn't as scary or engaging as Hill House, mainly because the pacing is so slow. I think that the intent was to make the viewer want to watch it again as the secrets are slowly revealed, but other than a few easter eggs I missed the first time, I have no desire to sit through it again.

Decent. It's just not at all Hill House.

Tied together nicely but I think Hill House was more... hmm.. every piece mattered more in Hill House? You got to see every character in every flashback, so Nell and Stephen and the mom and dad were equally important. Here, not as much - you'd get an entire episode committed to Hannah or the lady of the lake but they weren't all as essential as the few main characters.

The character episodes in Hill House really informed the bigger picture and were entertaining. I don't think that was quite the case here. They weren't quite as informative or quite as entertaining. Not quite as essential. So the pacing felt as deliberate and methodical and more like detours.

Edit: also, way less ghosts! Hill House kept throwing new creepy threats at you. Tall guy, zombie, skeleton in the walls, Poppy, old lady, Bent Neck Lady, etc.

The show wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. I thought all the characters were entertaining except for Victoria Pedretti's. She's annoying to me in this. Maybe my expectations were too high because Hill House I enjoyed Hill House so much!

I lasted through part of episode 6 but I'm done. Loved episodes 1-4. This "jumping through time" stuff is insanely uninteresting to me.

To have lesbian scenes with two hot women and not show any skin is an insult to humanity

Felt like it was too late in the game to drop the old family story (and source of the bad ghost).

And then when they did drop it, the episode was sooooo plodding.

Well above average TV... Amazing the night and day difference with shows that can get kids that can act... But overall not something I'll ever re-watch (whereas I watched Hill House twice and wouldn't be against watching again).
