It's like they don't want people to use their service.
their own affiliates don't want people watching their service (which will air fallon/seth meyers at local news time, potentially moving viewers from NBC (ota) to peacock). NBC is airing a 30 rock reunion tomorrow at 7 as a sort of launch party and most of the nations NBC affiliates have decided not to air it.

The exec's at HBO are thrilled about this launch. They are no longer the biggest idiots in the room.

Is anyone else having trouble logging in via Apple TV? I signed up online and created a password, but the app itself on Apple TV won't recognize the password when trying to login that way.

Did some digging, and a bunch of other Apple TV users are having the same issue. You have to manually enter in your password by actually scrolling through the letters/numbers. I and many others were using our iPhone's Remote app, and saved password via keychain, to enter it in, and for some insane reason that doesn't work, even though every other app allows passwords to be entered that way.

That's weird. I used my Apple remote via keychain with no issues.

Maybe it's just certain models or accounts? I found a thread a MacRumors that had a bunch of people having the same issue, someone eventually had the solution, and I finally got in with the manual method.

Very cool that they are blocking the use of external monitors...

Did the $30 1-year promo for Psych movie and S1 of Yellowstone. But don't plan to renew.

No Roku is disappointing.

I only want Peacock long enough to watch "Brave New World" to see how they portray it.

i've got it for free through xfinity and i dont see any reason to actually pay for this. I can see premier league fans forking over money to catch their teams, but i am failing to see the draw. I get the studios no longer wanting to subsidize what are now competitors in Netflix and Amazon. I just dont see the market for all of these services now that studios are hoading their backlog. Outisde of disney, I cant think of a single studio that has an actual fanbase.

Odd.

I just retested because having read above it was an HDMI issue - although Thunderbolt also did not work for me - i decided to test different configs.

My very new DELL has 2 displays one HDMI and one VGA. Yesterday I had disconnected the VGA and it did not work. I even went so far as to unplug it from the computer (not just at the monitor) and verify in settings there was no 2nd monitor configured. No dice.

So today I repeated it but I unplugged the HDMI monitor, disconnected it from the computer side and again confirmed there is no 2nd monitor detected in settings. No dice.

Even with just a single VGA connected monitor it gives the same error.

Worthless service. The only way I get it to work is via my laptop without external display. Which means I can do nothing else unless I leave that on there and work on the PC desktop. And I really only use the desktop normally for remote desktop connections to other machines I service and maintain.

Ugh.

Won't be using this crappy service until it is on Roku and supports external monitors.

Agreed. I'll truly only watch my EPL team games if FREE on Peacock. I ain't paying for it. they have many still on NBC proper or NBCSN.

And I only have done free trials for thing like CBS AA.

I hate network shows anyway and have plenty to watch from Netflix, Hulu and Amazon content. Even just their original content is better than network TV.

I don't even pay for Apple TV+ only that I have it free for a year because I bought a phone a few months ago, and will likely have someone (wife, kids) upgrading a device often enough to continue to get it free. Otherwise I would not have it and have not watched much there anyway.

I'm also one of the few apparently not in the Disney+ camp - my kids are older and I own every Star Wars, Pixar and Marvel movie I care to see again. Nothing there for me. I did the free trial to binge Mandalorian after it was all available. At best I might do a month here or there to catch full seasons of a few shows like that down the road. Or just do another free trial on a another email. I have like 7 between work, wife and kids.

I also get HBO for free due to AT&T Unlimited cell plan.

I have my own digital movie library of 200+ films on Vudu and 90% are linked by movies anywhere to Fandango, Amazon, Apple TV and Google Play.

I got all I need.

Netflix
Hulu + Live TV
Amazon - included with prime
HBO - free with AT&T
Apple TV+ - free with device
Vudu/Movies anywhere library

In watched the Psych movie last night, and I was able to connect my laptop up to my tv via HDMI. It worked fine at first, but my kids were being really loud at one point so I paused it. The laptop turned off after a few minutes, and when I turned it back on I got the cat error about HDMI. I closed the browser and started it again, and everything worked fine.

I did the free subscription with ads. There was a long two minute ad at the beginning, but no ads after that (even though there were clearly spots for ad breaks).

Regarding quality, even though there was no 4k, the picture looked really good for me.

That's probably going to be my only time to use the service, though, unless they come out with a Psych 3. If they had a Roku channel, I would probably install it and maybe watch something on there with ads when I'm really bored. As others have said, there doesn't look too be anything worth paying for right now.

I don't have a problem with Peacock. I have Xfinity and have been streaming saved by the bell effortlessly.

The one problem I ran into with Peacock is during Brave New World captions were only visible about half of the time and sometimes had to be turned back on in the middle of the show. We were watching on an LG TV that we could download the channel to. Now that I have finished (and enjoyed) Brave New World I will stop the $5/mo until I find another reason to watch something.

ahhh. oops. well good for them they can work the bugs out now. there would have been an uproar if people could not stream it on external monitors. who wants to watch sports on laptop sized screens.

they need to remove the HDMI (and Thunderbolt) limit or any external monitor limit. It is not stopping anyone from pirating that wants to. And they need to get it on Roku and Fire before next summer.

That seems appropriate. It's gone as well as Brazil building infrastructure for the Rio games.

Can someone dumb down exactly what Roku is?
It's a device that connects to your tv, like a cable box. It lets you log into (almost) all the separate streaming services so that you can watch on your tv instead of a laptop/phone/tablet.

It competes against Amazon Firestick/Google Chromecast/AppleTV, and generally has the most complete collection of services you can log in to. A lot of services don't play nice with Amazon or Apple since they're direct competitors with their own original programming. And the Chromecast is really held back by having to use your phone or tablet to control it.

It's a really dumb business move to not put your channel on Roku, since that's how a very large portion of people consume streaming content.
The other day I went into the Roku Channel just to see what kind of stuff was in there and was blown away by how much good content is in it.

Perhaps. The Rio games went off without a hitch and the reviews for peacock have already been a lot more forgiving than for hbomax.

oh wow geeze literally hundreds of "channels".

besides the big ones - hulu, netflix, amazon, and youtube

there is basically almost every network and then a lot of niche channels, heck roku has their own channel which consolidates a lot of free content.

there are even stupid ambiance channels to make your Tv like a fishtank or undersea, or just sights and sounds of nature, or something for you pet to watch while you are gone.

must be 500 or more

Go here and scroll... it might not ever stop scrolling i'm not sure. I never get to the end of it.

Peacock had a $914 million adjusted loss for 2020, according to a Comcast filing with the SEC Monday. The streamer contributed $118 million in revenue to NBCU. In addition, Comcast recorded $989 million in "eliminations" for Peacock last year, which are intracompany payments charged against revenue and operating earnings for a given division (e.g. content licensed to Peacock from other NBCU units).

Comcast said Peacock had 33 million signups in the U.S. at year-end but hasn't provided metrics on how many of those are paying subscribers. The service, available in free and premium subscription tiers, launched for Comcast cable subscribers last April and went nationwide in July 2020

Not shocking. I get peacock for free since I still havent cut off xfinity for cable tv needs and I rarely ever access it. I only ever throw it on to watch an occasional Premier League match. Perhaps its due to old school viewing habits but we're more likely to watch The Office reruns when we stumble across them on Comedy Central than by choosing to seek them out on Peacock. NBC needs the Olympics to happen to give Peacock a boost, but even that would be temporary.

Lol.

How is that? I'd imagine you gotta go into that with the lowest of expectations.

This shouldn't be too surprising IMO. Almost half of households still only have 1 streaming service (which from what I recall something like 80% of people with only one service are subscribed to Netflix). There were always going to be big losers in this rush from every company to create their own streaming service.
