I enjoyed both Master & Commander and Cinderella Man far better than the Russell Crowe movie that is likely going to win this thing. But as I said on the '90s thread, my taste in movies is not exactly simpatico with others on this board. I still can't believe Tommy Boy smoked The Sandlot.Bruce Almighty said:Chipotlemonger said:
Master & Commander is NOT forgettable.
It's my favorite movie of the decade, but it's not something that was made for the masses.

Serenity
All three are woefully underseeded. Well at least they made the tournament unlike Cinderella Man
Your loss. Fantastic movie. If I had a son it would be one of the two films, along with To Kill a Mockingbird, I would make him sit down and watch to illustrate what it means to be a man.MuckRaker96 said:I don't watch boxing movies if you're not fighting a steroid-enhanced Russian or B.A. Baracusjkag89 said:OK I will -MuckRaker96 said:

Now why did you seed the three above so low? I'm sure there are reasons, I'm sort of mulling over doing one of these for the films of the '70s and I'm beginning to understand how difficult it is to determine which films to include, much less where to seed them but still IMO all three are vastly superior to at least half the list in the catagory. I'd have seeded Children of Men in the 4 slot. While Avatar was a cultural phenomena and visually stunning, the story is at best meh. Children of Men is in its own right visually stunning, using mostly practical effects and tells a story about a glimmer of hope in a world that has lost all hope. At least Pan's Labyrinth is not against a LOTR movie. You want to shake the hands of those who voted for Serenity but you paired it with The Fellowship of the Ring, the best and truest to Tolkien's work? I enjoyed the closure Serenity gave to the TV series but I'm not going to vote for it over any of LOTR movies. In other words, what good is it being the host of thest tournaments if you don't get to manipulate the seeding a bit to give movie you really enjoy a better shot moving on a round or two or even just to have more interesting match ups in the first round?
Sorry, I was not trying to be a ****head. As I stated in my post I have grown to realize how difficult it is to even narrow down what films should be included in some categories much less the seedings in my attempts to set up a '70s Tournament. I'll even say it is very difficult even what catagory to place some films.. I praised you for including The Iron Giant in the '90s Tourney. when many questioned its inclusion.MuckRaker96 said:jkag89 said:Your loss. Fantastic movie. Let me know when you get the 70s one going so i can lecture you about all your bad seeds.
The whole point of me doing any of these brackets is to help everyone pass the time while we are stuck in this bizarro alternate reality where nobody can go to school, unemployment is enormous, there arent any sports that anyone gives a **** about on tv, and we are all slowly going crazy. The point is to help people have a little fun if i can. Ive been super lucky to have my business do better during the lockdown so most of the research i do for these is after 11 pm or before 7 am. I like a lot of people in texags and its fun to talk movies with them.
****heads like you that feel compelled to come break down where my seedings are wrong? Jesus Christ, man get the **** over yourself. Im some random 46 year old in the suburbs not roger ****ing ebert. Go find something better to do with your time.

Lower seed up by wide margins = School of Rock and Taken!MuckRaker96 said:
Competition overall is a lot thicker today. I think it comes from the movies being more recent. The 80s had few close matchups, it's been so long since those movies came out, you're pretty much in one camp or the other for most of them.
Through the first 40 votes, 4 lower seeds are ahead, a couple by wide margins.
3 matchups are tied 50-50
2 the favorite is ahead by <5 votes.
That's 9 out of 24 matchups that could go either way.
