I have a hard time believing they are in a no win situation. Imo they are just pushing the boundaries to see what they can get away with.

Sitting through a half hour of commercials and trailers before a kids movie with a 3 and 5 year old is not enjoyable for anyone. And if anybody with a theater thought that making parents sit through that long if a period trying to keep a child still and engaged is going to help their bottom line long term they are probably mistaken.

Richard Jewell - 17 mins
Jumanji - 21 mins. (I was completely asleep and my wife had to nudge me when they were over)

TCTTS has basically said we're idiots for not mindlessly enjoying the endless number of previews that they feed us.

The logic is the theaters get paid for each preview they show, and with dwindling live audiences, they are milking this revenue stream. But it sort of reminds me of when I finally ditched my newspaper subscription years ago. Their subscriber list was dwindling, so they cranked up the price while the quality of the product was decreasing. It led to them losing me too faster than they would have
Why not compromise? The industry should limit them to 10 odd minutes at most IF the movie exceeds 2 hours 20 minutes. That help alot in going to see the long ones again, and you could keep the excessively long parade of trailers on the shorter movies (but still risk putting people to sleep of course).

Trouble is all the 2 hour plus movies are the big blockbusters. Those are the ones where every trailer wants to be.

Trying to force viewing of trailers in a theater seems so backwards nowadays when everyone is on twitter and YouTube.

The average entertainment board poster is probably not the norm but I've seen 80% of the trailers they show before a movie anyway.

38 minutes at Cinemark did the Lucas logo show up after scheduled start time. Including the god awful sprite and Chrysler commercials In the middle of the trailers.

Side note: the trailer for "Barb and Star go to Vista Del Mar" was one of the worst concepts I've ever seen. Whatever they were trying to do there did not work
. I thought porno movies were going mainstream again!!!

And the trailers themselves....so effing sick of the melodramatic pop music covers.

So when I go see Star Wars tomorrow I should just arrive 20 min after the posted start time and walk my happy self to my reserved seat?

We got to the theater 20-minutes early for "The Rise of Skywalker" so we would have time to get a parking spot, a drink, and find our seats. We made it in 10 minutes before the posted start time, but we had reserved seats. Problem number one: reserved seating limited how you pick the seats, so you couldn't put an empty seat between you and other purchased seats. Our theater was half empty, but we were all jammed in next to each other. I had a big guy sitting next to me who jostled me most of the movie. Problem number two: the trailers were 30 minutes or more. This might be the first time I've gotten up for a bathroom break during the trailers. I guess I've gotten spoiled by iPic that going to a regular theater is almost no fun.

Yeesh, that would be a theater I never visit again. I get it if a near sellout is expected, but not otherwise. I always try to leave a single on both sides which usually assures not having anyone right beside us.

The most stunning stat is that someone actually went to see bombshell.

I pretty much just go to the Alamo Drafthouse now days. Yeah, they still have trailers, but it's more bearable w/ a burger and a cold brew or spiked milkshake in hand.

I always time properly. Without exception. Most recently for Richard Jewell (only having to endure the "student film" advertisement for Coca-Cola).

True cinephiles understand such consideration and plan properly.

Not your best work. Let the game come to you, Redstone.

This has probably already been said but the problem I have with trailers in the theater is that I've already seen them somewhere else on the internet. So I'm not getting anything new. If they would withhold trailers just for the theater experience then I'd enjoy them more. Even 30 minutes worth. I like trailers which is why I try to find them online early. But making me watch the same exact trailers in the theater is where the line should be drawn. Make exclusive theater trailers and don't leak them for pete's sake.

There were hardly any previews at the 12:30 SW showing yesterday! It was nice. I only had to watch a couple minutes of stuff before the lights dimmed for the film. Got to my seat probably 12:38 or so.
