Absolutely. I thought of that as well. A defining film for our generation even though I was damn young when it came out.

I feel like of those HS kid trying to lose his virginity wouldn't really work today. Not just because of culture, but also because people would be like, " Why doesn't he just join tender?"

this is probably to only movie I have seen on this thread that couldn't be made today. All the others (including blazing saddles)could be made with the right director or with modest changes (like the rape in revenge of the nerds)

This. These threads are pointless. It's just a "snowflakes are so sensitive these days" circle jerk disguised as a discussion about movies...

Here's the thing I don't understand. People would still go to see these movies. Snowflakes might howl, but if your film is clearing $150-200 MM than buy ****ing sound proof windows.

You think porn producers care about public opinion when they're rolling in their Bentley? Quentin Tarantino doesn't wrestle with existential guilt.

So make the movie you want, cash your check and let triggered people be triggered.

You think if you ask a film company today for $50 million to make a movie about a white kid that dons blackface makeup to take a scholarship from an African American student that you would get the greenlight to make that movie?

Major League. That movie has several #metoo rapey moments, particularly when Jake Taylor follows Rene Russo home, breaks into her house, and proceeds to have sex with her despite multiple protests and her engagement to another dude.

Really?

She didn't protest. As soon as he told he read Moby Dick she was all in for a last fling.

No way this scene is included today. No way. That is "hate speech" and that kid should have his life ruined. Ruin his family too.

The best movie ever made would not be made today...............................and that movie is Swordfish.

Jaws. It's too tame. It's gotta be a megalodon or something like that and have a lot more CGI. And you're definitely going to need to see the shark more than 2-3 times.

Risky Business - what could go wrong with rebooting a movie about minor running a brothel to provide sex to other minors? Could you imagine a female reboot?

There was a remake, The Girl Next Door. Total knock off of Risky Business.

I think some of these films would just be tweaked today. Dazed and Confused would probably stay the same, just leave out some of Wooderson's lines.

Silver Streak with Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder, more blackface humor

Sixteen Candles

Every time they talk about Dong, the gong strikes. They make fun of how he speaks, etc.

It's one of my all time favorites, but I doubt it would be made today, which is a shame.

I don't think something like Mrs. Doubtfire could be made today due to the letter mafia.

Maybe it would be, and I'm by no means saying it wasn't a great movie, but I was thinking in terms of the references to Private Snowball, Eightball, "There is no racial bigotry here. I do not look down on...", all so and so's must f'ing hang, Pyle being a fat body and his subsequent treatment, etc.

I agree. Other than race/gender/LGBT insensitivity being used in in a comedy, I think most movies would fly today with minimal changes.

Movies may seem tamer because TV is going in the opposite direction...compare popular TV today to the 1970/80s and the whole thing is reversed.

full metal jacket could 100% be made today. It would be even more obnoxious.

It already railed on the military and America. I predict a woke ass bruh like Spike Lee (oh whoever his successor is) will remake Full Metal Jacket in the next 10 years and put down America even further.

probably the absolute worst excuse for a movie i have ever seen. this movie is absolutely terrible. not even remotely funny in any part. i really dont understand why it has its weird foliwing. I would rather watch the holy mountain on repeat than this thing.

Well I saw the movie on Cinemax when I was 10 or 11 and I found it rather titillating.
