The Wild Bunch. It's basically toxic masculinity-the movie, and I love it.

My millennial son was shocked at the rape screen in High Plains Drifter.
A bunch of "No means Yes" in older movies.

I think a lot of great films like Star Wars, The Shining, Scarface or Taxi Driver wouldn't have been made b/c in their conceptual stage studio exec's didn't understand them. I wouldn't have understood them.

Hollywood no longer invests in risk takers. Decisions are made by committee.

Contemporary studios seem to guard the purse strings very tightly and clearly IMO don't like taking chances (consider all the recycled plots and nostalgic reboots).

Of course, the problem with risk takers, like say Brian De Palma, is hit and miss movies. The Untouchables? Brilliant. Simply the best. Casualties of War? ****ing terrible. And I'm pretty sure Sean Penn tried to murder Michael J. Fox IRL.

Racing is life. Anything before or after is just waiting.

this is probably to only movie I have seen on this thread that couldn't be made today. All the others (including blazing saddles)could be made with the right director or with modest changes (like the rape in revenge of the nerds)

Raiders and Temple of Doom would both be considered racist at worst, culturally insensitive at best.

Top Gun would be toxic masculinity.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off would be pure white privilege.

You can do this on probably 50% of films made before 2000. Maybe even 2010.

Probably a better topic for forum 16.

Modest changes to Revenge of the Nerds?

Using drugs and alcohol to get girls to have sex.

Toxic masculinity, bullying, hazing, and binge drinking.

Installing hidden cameras (that weren't hidden very well) to spy on girls in sorority house.

Disguising yourself to trick a women in to sex.

Authority figures that either don't care, encourage it, or turn a blind eye to said behaviors.

And it's a comedy mind you not a drama. Nah man, you couldn't remake this movie with modest changes.

No way you could make Blazing Saddles without completely removing some scenes and after doing that the big joke is gone. Th movie wouldn't work.

I'm watching Davy Crockett King of the Wild Frontier on Disney + as we speak and there is no way this movie gets made today. Fess Parker and Buddy Ebsen are killing the Indian savages like they are cockroaches. If made today Davy would be the bad guy spreading genocide to the West.

Dave chapelle or jordan peele or donald Glover could make a movie that was as scathing of a rebuke of racism. N words and all. A jew probably couldnt.

I don't know I think an audience would squirm in their seats and not laugh out loud. People would be afraid to think it was funny and be thought a racist.

I don't know, Django came out what, like 6 or 7 years ago, and while the point of the movie is different, it Hs some of that same humor of highlighting how stupid racism is.

Here's the thing I don't understand. People would still go to see these movies. Snowflakes might howl, but if your film is clearing $150-200 MM than buy ****ing sound proof windows.

You think porn producers care about public opinion when they're rolling in their Bentley? Quentin Tarantino doesn't wrestle with existential guilt.

So make the movie you want, cash your check and let triggered people be triggered.
