I hope Muckraker doesn't ruin this one like Frozen 2.

That's the second reaction I've seen comparing it to LOTR. Apparently there's a tinge of a Frodo/Samwise-esque journey here that really seems to be connecting with people.

Not surprising to see such a relationship in a WWI film, the character of Samwise was based upon a number of "batmen" Tolkien knew during his service during the Great War. A batman in English military parlance was a soldier who not only fought, but was also assigned to a commissioned officer as his personal servant.TCTTS said:

Even after watching the clip, I still don't understand the one take/real time angle. Can someone explain?

Have you ever seen Bird Man? It will be similar to that.
Also similar to this six-minute long take from Children If Men - but the whole movie long.
I've seen the trailer, but seeing it on the IMAX screen made me wish that I was there for that instead of Star Wars.Ag by Vows said:
Just saw this trailer when I went to Star award last night. The first I'd heard of the movie. I've been dying for a great contemporary WW1 movie ever since listening to the Blueprint for Armageddon podcast years ago. I'm really looking forward to this. I've read nothing about it, but just hope it is historically satisfying. From this thread, it sounds like it will be satisfying from a character-development perspective.
Check out the light horsemen too. Even better imobonfarr said:
Looks similar to Gallipoli one of my favorites.

anyway, i hope this movie is as fantastic as it looks. the western front was just such a tragic waste of brave men.
other ww1 movies i liked:
The Lighthorsemen
Lawrence of Arabia
The Blue Max
sargeant york
the lost battallion
the red baron
of course the usuals, all quiet on the western front, paths of glory, etc.
a REALLY good movie that predates WW1 by a few years but hints at the powderkeg building in europe is "The Wind & the Lion" That one is worth watching for anyone.
most recent reading i engaged in - "A World Undone" - did on Audible. It's slow at times, getting into a lot of nitty gritty details, but worth the read if you are really into it.
The ending of Blackadder Goes Forth was profound.JABQ04 said:
Lots of great WWI movies mentioned. I got my interest in WWI back in the early 90s watching "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles". Also for some lighthearted humor check out Blackadder Goes Forth with Rowan Atkinson, Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry.
