I wonder if it will be accelerating one of the main 5's story, or if they plan to start off including more worldly stuff?

Book 3, I believe. I don't recall any of them being cast.Chipotlemonger said:Champ Bailey said:

I'm guessing that it's more of bringing in other stuff in the world. Might just be a little bit here and there though in the latter half of this season 1. Guess we shall see!
Could it be Aiel and Aviendha stuff? I'm not remembering when they are introduced in the flesh.

I'm only 6 books in and it does seem like Deus ex machina comes up at least once per book but I've been told that there is logic to why they happen.Quad Dog said:
I read the first one a few years ago and wasn't a fan. I remember there being like three different Deus ex machinas that disappointed me. Then the kid masters his giant powers at the end with no effort or work to instantly solve all the problems.
That never motivated me to read more. Should I try again?
Pretty much every time Rand learns a new spell/use of power that all of a sudden solves the issue at hand.AtlAg05 said:

Rand is the embodiment of Deus ex machina

I would argue that Matrim is even more. He literally gets out of everything with blind luck.
I thought Jordan did a good job of explaining it with Ta'veren and the pattern and such and how it doesn't always work for good just causes the improbable to become suddenly probable.

I'll star this. But it's Mat, not Matt.
It's not really presented as such. Weird, unlikely scenarios happen around ta'veren. Not really a plot spoiler, but as an example one of them walks through a town and all of the eligible men and women spontaneously decide to get married or a roof tile get loose and the wind flies it through a window, striking a woman in the head and killing her.Quad Dog said:
Thanks for the responses. I don't think I'd enjoy reading more about characters with a bunch of blind luck. Especially if that luck is just the way things are. For me that luck would have to be earned to be more interesting. Or entertaining luck like Domino from Deadpool.
I wonder if the show will have the same mechanic, or try to make it seem more earned.

Interesting. Can't imagine casting directors are knocking down the original guy's door for parts, so guessing either he got burned out on the back to back shooting schedule or had a conflict that couldn't be resolved.redbaron788 said:
