The 80's movie thread got me thinking about a line that when you hear it, it automatically causes an emotional reaction. Any emotion....laughter, fear, chills, sadness, respect, etc...


Movie: War Games

"Want to play a game?" in that computer voice still sends chills down my spine.

With the Cold War and the arms race still going strong and the rise of technology in the early-mid 80's, that movie scared the crap out of a lot of high school kids when it came out in the summer of 1983.

"One time at band camp"

Chills:
"All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you."
"DEEEEATTTTHHHH!!!!"

Respect:
"I would have followed you, my brother, my captain... my king."
"I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you!"

Laughter:
"Stupid, fat Hobbit!"

Pretty much any line from the LOTR trilogy has some resonance for me.

I've cried uncontrollably in only one movie in my entire life, and this is the scene that did it:

Not to be a WarGames nerd, but it's "Shall we play a game?"
It always was interesting to me that they took the trouble to give it a British colloquialism because the code writer was British. Americans almost never use "shall" in a sentence.

Toy Story 3: So Long, Partner

"The town is back THAT way!"

"Tell me I've led a good life"

It's tv, but "How come he don't want me, man"

"Before this war is over I am going to kill you."

As soon as I hear this I turn on Boston's rendition of the Star Spangled Banner, bust out my flag, drape it over my back and run around the house because I'm a good American.

Today, we celebrate our independence day

Hey dad? Do you wanna have a catch?

This line always makes me giggle from a movie with a million giggles:


Has anybody got a dime? Somebody's gotta go back and get a ****load of dimes!

Agreed.

The look on Uncle Phil's face is brutal.

Any line where someone says "surely". The automatic response is "yeah, but dont call me Shirley" .

These two and many others from Aliens. Especially the funny lines from Private Hudson and Sgt Apone.

It's not a line, but Anthony Hopkins writing "am happy" on his chalkboard in Legends of the Fall always gets me.
