It is novel for an R-rated adult drama. I don't think it's a stretch at all to see that as a cash grab.

Why does it matter if it's an R-rated adult drama or not? How is that more of a "cash grab" than a Marvel movie that wasn't shot in IMAX? Also, any movie releasing in any theater can be considered a "cash grab." That's the whole point... to make money. And if so many of us are willing to pay extra for what we consider a superior experience, whether the movie was shot in IMAX or not, I legitimately don't understand the complaint.

Somehow, I'm agreeing with both sides of this argument.

You: "this is nothing new!"

Me: "it is new in this way"

You: "why does it matter if it's new or not!?!?!"

Look, I think we just disagree about what a cash grab is. It's fine. We can move on.

Except it's not new. Here are just some of the R-rated movies or movies in the realm of Oppenheimer and Killers of the Flower Moon that have released in IMAX over the years, but weren't shot in IMAX…

American Made
American Sniper
Amsterdam
Captain Philips
Crimson Peak
Deepwater Horizon
Doctor Sleep
Don't Worry Darling
Exodus: Gods and Kings
Fifty Shades of Grey
Fury
La La Land
The Magnificent Seven
Nomadland
One Upon a Time… in Hollywood
Parasite
The Revenant
A Star Is Born
Us
West Side Story

The big difference between those and Flower Moon is the one tweet you posted from that random guy touting IMAX as the canvas for the best film directors. It framed the entire conversation.

I think y'all are splitting hairs. It's easy to take twitter statements and overreact to them, because a lot of time they are purposely an overreaction to begin with.

Except it didn't say that. It innocently said: "loving the idea of imax becoming the place for epic dramas from our greatest major directors." He didn't mean exclusively, and he wasn't sh*tting on other screens/directors. It was basically just, "I'm loving this trend." As for me, I was simply excited that I get to see Killers of the Flower Moon on a big ass screen, shared a tweet that expressed that sentiment, and because this is TexAgs, that sentiment was of course picked apart to death for some reason. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

No one picked it a part. I gave an opinion about the tweet you posted and you called it angry and weird, so I defended my position, which you continue to attack.

If anything you are picking a part my response instead of just saying "I totally disagree with that, but whatever!"

We should just move and get back to trailers.

I won't watch like 50-70% of the movies that are posted in here, but I REALLY love watching trailers. I don't know why, but I could watch trailers for hours.

Am I just weird, or anyone else the same?
you're certainly not alone. i love watching trailers...i remember many years ago, back when there were only a few HD channels, one of them showed nothing but movie trailers 24hrs a day and it was glorious

Oh man, I totally forgot about that. It was part of Mark Cuban's lineup of HD channels. HD felt so cool and special back then, and for a time that channel was the only place you could see HD trailers outside of the theater. Loved watching those.

Apple used to (probably still there) have a webpage full of HD trailers. It was always good for wasting a solid hour at work.

Trailers are definitely an art all on their own.

Wow, they literally changed the site today. I've been using the iTunes Trailers page for years and years, they've had the exact same site/format for a decade+, and I was using it yesterday, in fact, but literally today it looks like they've integrated into Apple TV. But not all of the trailers they had are there? I can't figure this out...

Damn it, yeah, as of today the old site/app is officially dead. Hopefully this new version is just a beta or something, because it's so rudimentary, and lost so many of the trailers they were hosting just yesterday. There's no way to see what was uploaded on what day, or even select your format anymore (1080p, 720p, etc). Man, this was where I downloaded nearly all of my trailers, in high quality, since YouTube's bitrate is always sh*t. WTF?

Wow, I haven't used that site for several years now. What a coincidence that I just thought about it randomly.

This seriously bums me out. I've been using Apple/Quicktime trailers since 1998, when the first teaser trailer for The Phantom Menace was released online, which was the first of its kind. Then, I've been using it consistently, on a weekly if not daily basis at times, since 2005, when the very first 1080p HD trailer was released online, for Batman Begins. Apple always had the best compression - miles better than YouTube - and for trailer nuts like me who've been downloading/collecting trailers for 25 years now, it was absolutely essential. It also helped me keep track of the releases for smaller films, since trailers for those were all in one place, and now, suddenly, they're not. It was a massively helpful resource that's just... gone. I totally get how YouTube has taken over for trailers, and it makes sense to integrate the trailers to Apple TV, but man, literally thousands of trailers for thousands of movies were deleted in the process, and the functionality is crap. Again, I really hope this is just some kind of beta...

Been thinking about resurrecting a new iteration, but only once AI is advanced enough to essentially build the site for me, based on my prompts, and automate some of the daily updating, at least to a degree. Basically, I don't want to have to pay someone again to build it and then rely on them to fix it whenever it gets a bug. I'm hoping/thinking we're less than a year or so from this being a possibility, but we'll see. I know exactly how I want to do the new version, though.

Well I certainly couldn't give a crap about Taylor Swift, but it makes perfect business sense to release this in IMAX considering how many weirdo Swifty freaks are out there.
