Dune one week before Bond???

That is a HUGE mistake, imo. I'd guess a 60-70% drop off in its second weekend? Bond will absolutely crush Dune that weekend.

And if it does still debut on HBO Max same day? R.I.P any chance of a sequel.

Yeah, Dune seems to have suffered one of the biggest blows from the pandemic, as there's just no where else put it. I'm afraid it's going to get lost in the shuffle, currently releasing four weeks after Shang-Chi, two weeks after Venom 2, and a week before Bond.

That said, it's rumored to be opening the Venice Film Festival in early September, which means Warner Bros is going for the prestige play, and thinks it likely has Oscar potential. So maybe it doesn't need to be a blockbuster smash, and WB will be content with it hopefully being nominated for/winning awards, and that's what gets it the sequel greenlit.
