How great would it be if there was a PG-version and an R-rated version, where the only difference was Pikachu's dialogue?

Is this for real? I'm not believing it is until we get a ruling from TCTTS.

After I posted I knew I could have looked there, so lazy posting for me. That does look pretty dang funny.

Pokmon would never allow that. It wouldn't make money.
Why wouldn't it? All the kids that grew up playing Pokemon are adults now.
It would make some money, but would Toy Story PG or R make more? All the kids who watched Toy Story 1 are probably in 30s now.

This movie looks a helluva lot better than it has any right to be.

Pikachu was so much more interesting than how they are portraying him. In his biography, it implicitly stated he was not voiced by Ryan Reynolds. Obviously the facts don't matter to Hollywood when it comes to a biopic (pronounced buy-AH-pic)

Why would they focus on him being a detective instead of being a world-class pokemon champion? And why is there so much regarding the human and the relationship with his father? If I wanted to see that, I'd stay at home and talk to my own father.

If they really cared about the facts when it comes to Pokemon, they would highlight Alakazam. A much more intelligent and important Pokemon than Pikachu. I will not be seeing this movie as it is racist.

Written by Nicole Perlman, writer of Guardians of the Galaxy. Feel like that was a surprise to most people and that this will be the same.

Justice Smith (The main actor) is from The Get Down and Paper Towns. He was pretty decent in both, good enough not to screw up what Ryan Reynolds will bring. He was probably the best actor on the Get Down.

He also had a pretty sizable role in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

Btw, when did Pokemon become a "thing"? I'm 38, and this thread makes me feel old as sh*t. I know literally nothing about Pokemon, but I remember it as something that hit when it felt like I was already too old to be into it, but I can't remember if that was high school, college, or after.

That said, as I mentioned in the 2019 release thread, this actually looks pretty good. Like, really good, to the point where I've watched the trailer three times now and find myself legit looking forward to the movie itself.

Not gonna lie, at this point even the joke posts about aTm are becoming tiresome.

1996. Was all the rage when I was in elementary school.

I was the "right" age, I just couldn't be bothered for some reason.

Wow, ok. I was a freshman/sophomore in high school. So I guess not that old.

If you're anything like me, once you reach that age, you pretty much like what you like.

By freshman year I already had all my obsessions such as LOTR, Star Wars, Zelda, etc. And they just grew from there.

There's that one theory I've read about that what you are into at age 13 is what you'll be most passionate about the rest of your life. Certainly true for me.

I don't think i have a single interest/hobby from when I was 13 except maybe star wars. Everything else is stuff that i discovered years later.

I'm sure it's not universal. But for me it's pretty spot-on.

I got into rock music and guitar right around 12-13, as well. Obviously I discovered new bands in my mid-to-late teens, but my love of rock music was definitely there.

Yep. I was in elementary as well. I remember having the cards and the first games (Red/Blue) on Gameboy. I was into it for the 1st generation of games and cards. Didn't follow it much after that. Hell I think they are like 10 generations in or something.

i meant that more as an "interesting but i guess i am an exception" not as a "****ing idiot, i am proof that you are wrong."

It makes sense that a kid whose life centered around skateboarding and competitive swimming would have a different set of interest at my age.

I was in middle school then so that makes sense. it's still pretty big. my elementary age kid is getting cards for Christmas.

You would have needed to have a little brother/sister if you are 38.

Doubt Nintendo will let a Pokemon movie be R.

This doesn't really change things but Nintendo doesn't have a say. Nintendo has a stake in the company and licenses the RPG video games exclusively for their hardware. That's it.

The Pokmon Company International holds the decision-making power.

It'll be PG.

The Pokemon Company is owned by Nintendo (and a couple of the developers of the games).

The Pokmon Company is not owned by Nintendo. This is a common misunderstanding. Nintendo has a stake in the company and licenses its RPG games exclusively.

Nintendo has little say in the creative direction they take, especially for something that isn't one of the RPG games.

The Pokemon Company was created by Nintendo and 2 developers. The majority shareholders are Nintendo and 2 developers. One of those 2 developers (Creature), Nintendo owns a large share of.

So while there may be some paperwork that makes it appear like it is it's own company that operates 100% on it's own and answers to no one, it's clear to most anyone in the industry that Nintendo has control over the company.

That doesn't mean they wield it often -- they may very well be fairly hands off -- but it's silly to think that Nintendo isn't the final word on what direction things go.

I think I saw some stat somewhere that said Pokemon was the highest grossing franchise of any format worldwide, including Star Wars. This movie has the potential to do gangbusters at the worldwide box office.

If the YouTube views are any indication (20M+ in one day), it certainly seems like this is gonna be a smash.
