If Ryan Reynolds saw the script and agreed to do this before he saw how big of a check they would write him, there is a chance (a small one but a chance) this will be decent.

True but the Pokmon company runs the show. They make the decisions. They'd be the one deciding what kind of movie to make. Regardless, both the Pokmon company and Nintendo want a PG movie. It wouldn't make sense to do anything else.

The Pokmon Company is not owned by Nintendo. This is a common misunderstanding. Nintendo has a stake in the company and licenses its RPG games exclusively.
Nintendo has little say in the creative direction they take, especially for something that isn't one of the RPG games.

I think, if it was going to be anything but kid-friendly, the scene where the cute girl is saying "pika-pika" would have gone a lot differently.
