Trying to get through it now. The first 5 seasons were incredible. The 6th season is/was trying way too hard on their social commentary which has aged poorly.

Also, Second season of The Wire, was done because of the push back of showing Baltimore like Baltimore really is.

The Baltimore Sun writers being adamant about "telling the truth" and all of that, was pure non-sense.


The interesting thing about The Wire season 2 is it regarding as one of the best seasons of television ever. It's so well done. Such a great show.

Is this your opinion or do you have a reference point for that thought? Not arguing with you...just curious since I've never heard that.

After the show is completed, season 2 seems like a perfect fit. It throws people off when they're initially watching because it seems out of left field. But in the overall arc of the story, as they move up the line on the drugs, then even further up the line to the overall city and urban aspect of politics/policies, the story just keeps building bigger and bigger.

In summary, if they were forced (as you imply) to put season 2 in to mix things up from "showing Baltimore as it really is", then it becomes an even more magnificent job by Burns and Simon of putting it all together.

I used to live up there, a lof of people I know still do. Blowback from the first season....actually showing what Baltimore streets are like, was huge.

A friend of mine's dad used to write for the Baltimore Sun, they ran cover for the mayor during the riots like no one else. The entire rest of the media was showing what was really going on, The Sun was not.

Oh…I thought you were referencing something during or before production of the show 25+ years ago. Not something that was way after and had nothing to do with it.

Since this has evolved into a greatest shows debate.....


I'll go

Breaking Bad at the top and everything else under it. Also, I know its a much older show but damn I feel like NYPD Blue (in its prime) flies under the radar in any greatest shows discussion. It was so so good in seasons 1 through 6, and then even beyond that, while it def lost some luster it was still a great show.

i think it was just the hate for ziggy. awesome season though. Didnt realize until a few years ago that the actor that plays nicky sobotka is Liev Shreibers brother.
