I'm amazed at the people who think it's not a nice gesture unless it puts the person doing it in bankruptcy.

Come on, to take the time and trouble to do something nice, is a nice gesture, whether it costs you a dime or a million bucks.

That was such a cool experience.

We flew out to LA to do a little promo work for the movie and soundtrack with Dolly. The studio we were at was actually a house in a neighborhood that had been converted. You could record in nearly every room except the kitchen which had soundproof glass separating it from the living room. They wanted to film the meeting so they had Julie wait in kitchen and then walk in to meet her. As she walked in they closed the glass door behind her and I was just standing in the kitchen taking some pics trying to stay out of the way. A sony record exec sees me and invites me into the room. I whisper that im going to stay to the side and just take a few pics. He tries to urge me into the room and I resisted, I really didn't want to steal the spot light. After a back and forth whisper argument, he finally grabs my arm and yells, "Hey Dolly, this is the husband! He's a huge fan!"

(At this point I should explain that yes, I am indeed a huge Dolly fan. I grew up listening to Dolly and my parents took me to Dollywood the year it opened.)

So Dolly looks over tells me, "Well get on over here too!" So obviously I listened. She was so nice and genuine. We had a little small talk photos, etc. and that was it. My wife and I spent most of the day just hanging out while she and Dolly did some interviews and hear some of the soundtrack. We also got to meet Linda Perry since she was producing the soundtrack and she was really freaking cool. We also randomly got to meet Sara Gilbert very briefly which was also very cool.

Made a 9 to 5 joke to my kids today
