Not a video game system or anything like that. Straight up toys only. And it's a cop out to say "GI Joe" cause we both know you had a favorite, and we both know it was either Snake Eyes or Storm Shadow. So just go ahead and say Storm Shadow, unless you're brave enough to say "Shipwreck."

I think mine was a Robotech skull leader jet my dad got me. Of course I wanted a transformer like Jetfire, but they were too expensive. (I spent most of my childhood with whatever was the cheaper version of whatever the cool toy was at the time. Consequently, I once had a nice little Robotech collection).

Tonka trucks, when they were still made of metal. I also loved my GI Joe, but that was in the days before all of the other characters (when he was a full size doll, not action figures). I had a ton of Matchbox cars, too. Still have them all at my Dad's house (and I'm pushing 50 in December).

Oh, and I loved Bulletman:

In the mid '70s I got this giant aircraft carrier that actually launched jet airplanes into the air. That thing was awesome.

Maybe a couple of years later, I got a 3-foot tall Godzilla that had a button on his arm that launched his fist. He also had a flame tongue that you could extend, and had wheels in his feet for mobility I guess. I had lots of fun with both of those (and in fact, I still have the Godzilla sans that fist).

Other than that, I'd have to say my collection of Hot Wheels, metal Tonka trucks, and my collection of the initial releases of the Star Wars figures were among my favorites.

Vertibird was a great toy

Evel Knievel Cycle that you got moving with a hand crank.

Slot cars are always cool

Hotwheels thundershift raceway was awesome, you'd have to time the shifting to get the cars to go faster and faster around the track...my bro and i did the indy 500 once and almost got carpel tunnel.

Monday Night Talking Football was a classic!

Legos with a close second being my Lincoln Log set plus plastic cowboy and Indian pieces.

Yes I built remote cavalry forts
Yes I set the Indians up in the distance ready to raid.
Yes I simulated cannon fire with catapult trebuchet style defenses that launched wooden barrels with pretend gunpowder inside.
Yes the cowboys always won.

Yeah, not gonna lie. Looked forward to Sears or JC Penny catalog every year.

Mom: You sure like looking at the catalog, good toy section?

Me: What? Toys? Uh yeah, right mom. Great toys.

Most definitely.

A close second was my Transformers* collection.

*Mostly Go-Bots if we're being honest here.

PS - while poking around the Target toy section with my son I discovered the LEGO Speed Champions series - they have the Bullitt Mustang set which I ordered off Amazon the second I got home. https://www.lego.com/en-us/themes/speed-champions

Definitely my Tonka cement mixer truck that I got for Christmas. Age 4 (I think). You use the mixer to turn dirt and water into mud; I LOVED it!

*** Now I'm on Google trying to find a replica

edit: Found it! And it was Fisher-Price, not Tonka

Nah just teasing you. Any kid with an aircraft carrier and a 3 foot tall godzilla to play with is Ricky Stratton from Silver Spoons. Please don't take offense from my 30+ year old insecurity issues.
