FXX started up with season 5 today and I was scrolling through the episodes, when I realized it was classic episode after classic episode. I was wondering if this was the single greatest overall season of the show when I started looking at seasons 4, 6 and 7 and it became tough to really say this.
Here are the episodes of each season:
Season 4
Season 5
Season 6
Season 7
I think I'd lean towards Season 5 with Season 4 a very close second. Season 6 has some outstanding episodes, but there are too many below average ones (Lisa's Rival, Bart's Girlfriend, Fear of Flying and Lisa's Wedding) that knock it down a notch. Same with Season 7.
All in all, I'd put the Simpsons seasons 4-8 as the greatest stretch of television comedy ever.
