Jordan's character seemed like a pretty generic comic book movie villain from the little of him there was in the trailers (at least that was the impression I had) so I'm glad the reviews are saying he's actually interesting

Everyone who goes to a casino is a bad guy apparently.

Those are not surprising reviews to see out, considering the racial makeup of the movie. No one wants to be the guy to come out and say one of the first real black superhero movies is bad, or mediocre. The mob at large would just label him a racist.

However, I liked the character and the actor, and I think there are a lot of other pretty good actors in this, so I am very optimistic.

Just my opinion as far as how seriously to take any of these reviews, is all.
Yep and with the political climate today, it's hard to tell if this really is the greatest movie ever made and deeply spiritual, or if this is just a bunch of virtue signaling from the Hollywood left...like a context to show how pro black and pro female they are.

I'll have to check it out for myself...it does look solid...but just hard to trust people with a political or virtue signaling SJW agenda nowadays unfortunately.

We've done this drill at least a dozen times before. EVERY Marvel movie immediately after EVERY premiere is "The best Marvel movie ever!" I'm more skeptical of bloggers/fanboys getting hand jobs from Disney than I am of people holding back for racial reasons.

Ha. Good Lord. An entire race was enslaved for hundreds of years and attained equal rights only a few short decades ago. Until now, that same race has literally never had a blockbuster catered to them as a people, especially one that honors their heritage. ONE of them expresses a sentiment spurred by the movie of what could have been had they never been marginalized and THAT's your reaction? To essentially roll your eyes and say it's a "shame"? I cannot fathom how anyone would have a problem with that tweet. WTF is wrong with you guys?

A lot of people go to the movies or watch sports so they don't have to think/see those type of things since they are so unavoidable in a lot of other areas these days. It doesn't bother me one way or the other, but I do see their viewpoint

And for decades I've gone to the movies as a white male and had my every whim, childhood want, and even my heritage catered to and represented on screen by people just like me. Given that, how can anyone possibly have a problem with a black audience finally getting their version of Star Wars, and having their heritage represented on screen? And in doing so, who ******* cares if for a brief moment there's mention of the wrongs against them by white people 300 years ago? A) That doesn't mean they're ****-talking white people now, and B) we don't even yet know the context this is presented, if at all, in the movie. Either way, it's not always about YOU and what YOU'RE comfortable with.

Why does a super secret African society care about slavery in America? Wakanda probably got its first riches by selling other Africans to Americans.

Just look at ESPNs ratings as they have dove further in to political BS

Like I said, I don't care one way or the other and will be seeing this movie because it looks badass, but I also understand someone saying they don't want to see it

I completely agree with your sentiment about representation in the movie. I think what rings false is, that was not a black person you quoted on twitter, and most of the tweets were just white people telling us how great it is. That makes me doubt their objectivity on how good the movie is. Anyways, feels like we are talking in circles, and its not helped by likely racists coming in to join the discussion.

I dont even think it's their "political bs". Its their over expansion into yelling heads content that people dont care about. That and the widespread adoption of youtube, and twitter, and other media channels have led to highlight shows on ESPN not really being necessary. It was natural for it to eventually decline.

I think some of you are misinterpreting the tweet that started this whole discussion. All that person was saying was that Wakanda and its citizens essentially reminded her of what Africa could have been had it not been pillaged for slavery. Not that it would have become some advanced civilization, obviously, but rather it simply reminded her of the potential her people have and could have had if allowed to thrive unimpeded in their homeland. There is absolutely no reason to believe any theme or sentiment like that is actually in the movie itself (and even if there is, again, who cares?). But TexAgs having the SJW phobia it does, of course conclusions were instantly jumped to. And look, I get it. SJW types are more often than not utterly insufferable. I'm right there with you on that. But sometimes the inability of this board to understand the subtleties/grays on occasion when it comes to the whole SJW thing never ceases to amaze me. Try to see the world through a lens other than your own from time to time.

I think we are all basically saying the same thing in different ways. This movie will be divisive, but I'm 100% in the camp that it will be awesome no matter what it may portray in terms of the current social climate in the US

1. I will see this movie because it looks badass
2. I have zero problems with it being mostly black characters. I honestly think Africa has a lot of cool **** going for it and hope to visit
3. The fastest way to turn me off is to go beyond showing the cool, awesome **** and start telling me I'm a bad guy

I hope Black Panther is able to stick to the kickass awesome **** like the importance of family, badass tech, cool fights, and showcasing the good of other cultures. I'm out if there's demonization of me.

ETA: I gotta be angry somehow. As a 4Runner owner, I'm miffed that BP appears to tear a nice one up in the trailers

that person's tweet has not basis on anything in life, or even a probable alternate history.
it was some person circlejerking themselves with SJW platitudes seeing if they could out white knight/virtue signal everyone else.

Comment on the damn movie, what it was. not some SJW fanboy alternative history that absolutely would have been if only not for those white guys.....

Wasn't that tweet an actual quote from the actor who plays T'Chaka, who happens to be from South Africa? It's him musing on the What If? of an African country growing and existing in a bubble without European influence, right?
