It's not better than 12. It's on par with it at best, but even 12 had more genuine laughs.

Obviously nowhere near 11 or even 13. As mentioned, it's a cheap knockoff of the original. It doesn't have half of the charm or the humor it had.

Agree! Decent, but I wouldn't even say good.

imho groups of women are never as funny as groups of men. call me sexist ok but there is a reason for it. women can be very funny of course, but groups lose their appeal for me from a humor standpoint.

1. women can't rip on each other like men it just seems catty when they do, guys do it as a form of bonding
2. women rarely if ever prank each other guys do it naturally even in serious settings
3. group dynamics are funny with a bunch of guys with women it's a beauty contest usually

and those were 3 major parts of the male Oceans movies

the brothers ripping on each other
pranking matt damon's character
even the bad guys (the marks) taking shots at danny et al, bravado, threats, etc.
matt damon's parents belittling him
ripping on the short guy, the nerdy guy, etc.

The group dynamic when they would get the whole team together was great for the men - just great interplay and non sequitur type conversations between the men.

And this had less group dynamics; mostly just Cate and Sandra talking, planning, recruiting and two on one with each of the others.. there was not much group interaction as a whole which the mens versions had a lot of.

Examples:

Remember in Oceans 12 when the mark prank called Danny with a 5am wakeup call.....6 hours earlier and he had drunk a whole pot of coffee..... so he and Rusty stayed up all night watching movies and TV (Happy Days).

The brothers just doing stupid crap like racing the full size truck and the mini truck.

All the BS dialog and codewords Danny and Rusty made up just to F with Linus.

etc. etc. etc.

One of my favorite visual gags ever is Cheadle watching the casino demolition on tv as it happens through the window behind him.

Rusty and Danny sobbing watching Oprah in the middle of the night before the heist. Danny holds out his wine glass - without looking. Rusty tries to fill it - without looking. The wine pours straight on the floor. Neither one notices, it's never acknowledged, and the shot doesn't emphasize it all.

There's nothing super original about any of it, but the way the actors and director play it kills me every time. The whole series is packed with little moments like that.

Just got out of it. Thought it was good, not great, don't really need to see it again, and I'll watch 11 and 13 every single time they are on tv. My main problem, like others said, is that the heist was too easy. If there was a problem, they snapped their fingers and it was fixed.

I saw this a while ago so going off of spotty memory. These movies to me are about the characters, and for me in this film the characters were all great, except Sandra Bullock. She was just... bland. So very bland and had way too much screen time. I wanted more of Cate Blanchet, Sara Paulson, Mindy Kaling, pretty much everyone else. And I really thought Helena Bonhem Carter ran away with it.

Also it would have been so much better if Anne Hathaway's character was named Anne Hathaway.

Is the pickpocket girl someone famous? Thought it was odd that everyone else in the group is a pretty big star, including 3 Oscar winners, and then there is just some random Asian girl. Whoever she is, still better than Melissa McCarthy.

But seriously, this was a payback movie for the wife since she watches all the Marvel, Star Wars, etc.

I was bored the entire movie

Did you know the Asian guy or the tech nerd before oceans 11?

Saw this on a plane the other day. You guys covered it well. It was fine. Enjoyable, but a little bland. Stakes didn't feel high. Obstacles were overcome quickly and easily.

I'd also like to say Ocean's Eleven is one of my all time favorites. There's no way this cast could rival that one. (Shout out to the late Bernie Mac who was nails as Frank Catton).

Yeah it was fine, but nothing memorable.
Theft wasn't nearly as interesting, but part of that was what they were stealing, targeted to women.

Watched it tonight with my wife. I agree with everything you said.

Took me three tries to get through this movie. Same as most people mentioned above: Too much like the first one. Too easy to get everyone together. There was never any real threat of them getting caught.

Biggest issue: Why would Anne Hathaway's character really care about (what she thought it would be) $16 million-ish?

If she is a successful actress/model/celebrity, then I'm not sure $16m is going to make her turn into a criminal.
