I would happily trade out Sandra Bullock for Julia Roberts in Oceans 14.

Who would replace Bernie Mac?

I'd be ok with it if The Rock played every character

That would infer that people in Hollywood have common sense.
They would also have to admit that we are much more intelligent than they think we are.

In other words: They won't.

His character from "Be Cool" would have to be one of them.

The plot could be them robbing a casino (or diverting all of the pay-per-view funds) during Wrestlemania and get this...The Rock could impersonate a well known wrestler making a comeback after a surprisingly successful acting career.

It's easy to see why they picked 8; if this movie is successful, the girls will get a trilogy.

Saw this tonight. Overall, it feels like store brand Ocean's 11. Fairly generic and comes across as a somewhat cheap imitation of the trilogy. It gets better as it goes along, and the second half is definitely more entertaining than the first, but it never reaches anywhere close to the highs of its predecessors. Feels really subdued at times as well. You'd think the female version would have a little more pep in its step, but it's all weirdly vanilla and hardly takes any chances. That, and every single problem encountered (all three of them) is easily solved in 30 seconds or less. There's no real tension and the mission never feels like it's in any legit jeopardy.

That said, I chuckled a couple of times, but the audience I saw it with laughed their asses off and seemed way more into it than I was. So maybe it's just me, I don't know.

Either way, now having seen it, I don't at all get how this could be interpreted as any kind of a women's empowerment thing (if it was ever even meant to be). I'll sometimes defend that kind of stuff a bit more than most here (and did so earlier in this thread), but this comes across as women getting nothing more than the men's table scraps. The whole thing screams "Look, we're doing this too!" and is such a bland, derivative variation that I don't understand how it can be considered anything but a setback. It's a money-grab, plain a simple (which I've also defended), but you'd think with this cast there'd be a bit more too it - at least some kind of subtext - and there's just not.

Though, again, the audience I saw it with seemed to genuinely enjoy it, and there were FAR more people in the sold out theater tonight than there were for Solo on opening night a couple weeks back. So I may not be the best person to analyze this one, and it probably doesn't even need analyzing to begin with. It's a fun enough movie, is going to make a ton of money, and I'd say it's probably even worth the price of admission, just don't go in expecting anything on par with the earlier installments in terms of cleverness, charm, or filmmaking technique in general.

That's because this movie is a cash grab written solely as a "look, women can do anything men can do!" movie. And when a movie is written for any purpose other than to tell the story it just never turns out well.

This whole women's empowerment thing can be done well when you focus on the story and just let the "it's women doing it" angle take a back seat to the plot. For instance, I think the trailer for The Widows looks pretty good, and it has nothing to do with the fact that its a bunch of women pulling off the heist (or whatever they're doing).

But was it better than Ocean's 12???

If it's better than that I say it gets a pass.

And just out of curiosity, which is better....Oceans 11 or Oceans 13?

I say 13 just cause I enjoyed Al Pacino way more as a bad guy.

Hey just saw it this afternoon... can't remember if I posted here before or not but......

my DAUGHTER is in this movie. We kinda waited to make sure she wasn't completely cut. she was just an extra and filmed last year in NYC where she is a theater student. she was a generic model type in a ball gown at the Met Gala big event of the movie. we knew they would not cut all of that but you never know what makes the final cut.

We saw her 4 times in that scene all together but you would have to be looking for her of course. Tall blonde in a green sequined dress. I'll post a pic of her from wardrobe fittings later.

Once she was behind bullock just during like the entrance to the Met. Another time she was standing at one of the other tables as they followed Anne Hathaways entrance. And she was in one of those panning shots of the weird dark room with all the other gowns and jewels just walking like any of the guests. She was also on the stairs of the crowd as they exited during the lockdown. I think that was it but we will have to watch again.

she had several other parts shot where she had closer proximity to the stars especially Sarah Paulson but none of those made it in apparently. she shot for 10 nights overnight from like 6pm to 4-5am at the Met itself. there were reshoots later where they recreated parts of the interior.

And she met several of the stars at one time or another - Sarah Paulson kept talking to her because she wanted to know the designer of her dress and they had to get wardrobe to find out and get the info for her. She met Rhianna as she did a special backroom meet an greet thing for the model girl extras. Briefly met Sandra and Anne but nothing much to report just a hi nice to meet you kind of thing. Talked briefly to Katie Holmes who was a celeb cameo in that dining room scene. And saw the Kardashians but never talked to any of them - they were more aloof than the movie stars of course. Never saw Cate Blanchett or Mindy Kahling because they were not on the floor during the Met scene they were always back in the kitchens, etc.

It was a fun little game for us to try to find her - I need to pay more attention to the movie next time but I liked it for the most part (I could be biased).

And her 20th birthday was yesterday so it was kind of a fun birthday outing for us.

It's a fun heist movie. The actual heist is a lot of fun and the characters are all great. Kaling got a bit of the short stick in this one. I'd watch another movie with these characters based on the chemistry alone. Perfect for a MoviePass night if you are on the fence IMO.

Is this a good thing? His record with Ocean heist films is hit or miss. 11 was great, but 13 was decidedly meh, and 12 was so terrible and such a transparent money grab that I felt insulted walking out of the theater. I'm wondering if he got lucky with or ran out of ideas after 11.

Ghostbusters made $230MM on a $145MM budget. I wouldn't call that a bust.

you would if you realize thats the production budget alone.

Add another 50% typically or $70MM in distribution and advertising costs. thats $215MM total cost.

And of the $230MM in box office the studio typically sees only 50%on average or $115MM. the rest goes to the theaters.

So they lost over $100MM most likely on the standard basis for determining profit for films.

Cable, PPV and BR/DVD might make them back another $20MM or so and merchandising but I doubt it was much with this film maybe $5M.

Easily lost $75MM or more.

Hollywood accounting is almost criminal.

You could find some studio accountant who could give you numbers that show "Titanic" lost money.

This was my biggest complaint. They explained the plan to the audience beforehand, and, other than a few minor hiccups, the plan went off without a hitch. There really wasn't any suspense or surprises.

Well yeah but then there was the twists of it. I thought the same thing as it went along - almost too easy. And so I expected something. And there were really 2 things.

1. the setup of the guy
2. the second parallel stealing of the other jewels

However It was a little weak yes... it did not have the weight of the other Oceans movies they never really seemed to face getting caught or getting killed. And there was never as much urgency or narrow window of opportunity, etc.

It basically hinged on one simple lift in an empty bathroom stall and one blindspot just outside there.

We don't need another one for sure with this cast. Leave it there.

But we need Oceans 14 because..... Danny cannot be dead. Speaking of that - what a terrible Checkov's gun failure of the Danny grave and then no payoff whatsoever..... why even introduce it if there was no payoff. I guess it was just keeping it in people minds that he may be out there but I would have really liked if he walked in at the end.
