Did we ever get any sort of implication as to what Bran and Tyrion discussed prior to the BoW? I'm fine not being spoon fed everything like the show runners have done, but I would at least appreciate a clue.

I don't think Sam is grand maester, and I think the master assigned to the king is ever the head honcho anyways
The Grand Maester is just a Maester selected to be assigned to the king. I suspect if the king wants a particular Maester, he can have him which is why Sam is now the Grand Maester of King's Landing.

You guys are all thinking of Arch Maesters as being the head honchos, which they are, with one serving as Seneschal (the governing arch maester) over The Citadel each year.

Well, I think that whole discussion with the cut away was supposed to set up Tyrion's whole "Who has a better story than Bran the Broken" speech.

Don't think it's any deeper than that.

The way this was wrapped up was really bad, y'all. Don't try to look for much depth because it just isn't there. Tyrion have a cut away conversation with Bran after he asks Bran what his story is, and then later telling an assembly of Lords that Bran should be King because he has a really cool story is deep writing for these dumbasses.

So apparently GRRM has given the people of New Zealand (where there's a conference he plans on attending in summer 2020) permission to detain him and lock him in a cabin if he doesn't show up with a completed copy of Winds.

My dude, you went back to January. JANUARY. Just to find somewhere where someone said it could be Bran. Not only that, it wasn't even typed out on here, so no idea how you searched and found a tweet. Like others said, those odds changed every week and Bran wasn't the leader the entire time. One week, Littlefinger was on there and the guy was dead.

If you take gambling odds as fact and actually put your money where your mouth is you probably live on the streets.

Are we going to go back and find every post where someone got a prediction right and "call them out on it" because they posted a spoiler? Oh nos!

Posting odds is not posting a spoiler.

If you look at the next 10+ posts after referring to it most called it stupid to think Bran would end up on the throne or laughed it off.

The previous one had Jon.

The odds for other things were way off - Jamie was the favorite to kill Cersei. Varys was the best odds to die first in S8.

You've been obsessed with this for a long time. Let it go. It spoiled nothing here.

No... MC Swag tried calling me out for the opposite - I was saying posting odds were not spoilery it was on this same thread and replies but earlier. I entered the convo a few posts later.

I asked if he thought posting football odds spoiled football games. And that was back in January when the odds had Jon as the favorite. Earlier this week he brought that back up.

I was actually kinda being snarky there. But I also asked legitimately if he thought Jon was the favorite cuz he is Jon or cuz of a leak?

But you may be thinking of my stance on betting on a TV show (or Vegas allowing betting on a TV show) - I said I think that is dumb when there are at least 1000 people who know what happened.

Here is where the whole thing started. It wasn't even Thisguy1 - he posted weeks later with the first time Bran was shown as the favorite - but it started here. You can read all the replies after including mine.

Though come to think of it, were the odds for winning the Iron Throne, specifically?

Cause that would be a pretty easy loophole for Vegas to not pay out any bets.

They usually have it pretty well defined. They'll either pay out Bran or declare the bets "no action".

I will say this, as soon as that council started, my thought was, 'dammit, the odds were right, it is going to be Bran."

It's really not hard to find. And I really hate spoilers. Last season was the worst and I actually did got back and find every person who intentionally sought them out and posted their "theories."

I'm just saying for future shows that have pre determined endings with thousands of people on the in, how about not publishing odds for payout that rewards people who actually know the ending? That's all I'm asking.

So what are the bets?

Night King invasion resolved in 3-4 episodes, then everyone turns and heads south for the final battle at King's Landing?
I think this will be the case. GOT is in overdrive now with the WW's south of the Wall. Many arcs have been closed. It will finish rapidly. Maybe something like....

Since some of you think this is too specific, I'll spoiler tag it. But I haven't seen any leaks on season 8. Just the musings of a fan

Ep 1
Bran follows the movement of the WW's via ravens but there is otherwise little news on that front.
Dany and Jon continue north, screw a lot
Beric and Tormund arrive at Winterfell and give first hand account of the Wall breaking
Theon sets out to find Asha
Jamie continues north
Arya leaves Winterfell

Ep 2
WW continue advance south, Winterfell prepares for siege
Dany, Jon, the Unsullied, the Dothraki, and the rest arrive at Winterfell.
Jamie arrives at Winterfell and is taken prisoner. Bran becomes his advocate and convinces Jon and Sansa that his intentions are noble.
Theon finds Asha
Cercei is shown progressing in her pregnancy
Remnants of the Nights Watch arrive at Winterfell

Ep 3
Brienne and Jamie get it on
Theon is captured by Euron after he tracks him down on the coast of Essos in the process of picking up the Golden Company.
Melisandre returns only to be killed by Arya. In her last breaths she tells Arya she has returned to inform them she was wrong about Stannis and wrong about Jon. Dany is Azor Ahai reborn.
Sam and Bran conclude that WW army can be defeated by killing the Night King, contemplate telling Jon who he really is.
Cercei loses the baby and falls in to a deep state of despair.
Closing scene is WW army emerging outside Winterfell as a guard gives three long blasts of the horn.

Ep 4
Entire episode is the siege of Winterfell.
Jamie, Brienne, Jorah, Beric, Davos, the Hound, Greyworm, and Tormund lead the troops/defense of Winterfell on the front line.
Jon and Dany stay back from the battle until the timing is right to engage. Dany rides Drogon, Jon rides Rhaegal in to battle (not knowing the dragon is named after his father).
Rhaegal is killed and Jon injured. Dany is thrown from Drogon trying to rescue him. Jorah is killed trying to save Dany. Dany in a desperate attempt to defend Jon, draws Long Claw which becomes Lightbringer and it is revealed she is Azor Ahai. She slays zombie Viserion and Nights King but is mortally wounded. Beric and Greyworm also die.
Episode ends in silence.

Ep 5
Aftermath of the battle. Dead are mourned. Plans are made to deal with Cercei. Arya plans to infiltrate Kings Landing and kill her but Jamie, not knowing she has lost the baby, argues that he must be given a last chance to persuade her to step down. Jon agrees that if she'll step down she can remain exiled at Casterly Rock.
Theon somehow frees Asha and attempts to escape. Dies in process. Theon or Asha kill Euron. The Ironborn then flip for Asha and take her as their queen.
Qyburn brings a raven delivered message to Cercei that the WW's are defeated. She knows her time is up. Also is informed Euron is dead and the Golden Company is not coming.
Bran and Sam reveal that Jon is the child of Rhaegar Targaryeon and Lianna Stark and the rightful heir to the throne.
Jamie leaves Winterfell alone. Jon and what remains of the troops, Unsullied, and Dothraki, head south.
Bronn figures out that Cercei and Qyburn plan to burn Kings Landing with wildfire ala the Mad King,
Asha and the Ironborn fleet head towards Kings Landing.

Ep 6
Jamie enters Kings Landing and tries to reason with her, finds out she lost the baby, and realizes that Cercei has gone completely mad.
Jon arrives at Kings Landing on Drogon and their army assembles outside the city walls. Tormund stays in the North.
Brienne finds out she's pregnant with Jamie's child.
Jamie kills Cercei to stop her from burning the city but is mortally wounded by Ser Gregor. (reaching here) the Hound and Arya have snuck in to KL and with Bronn's help, kill Ser Gregor and Qyburn.
Brienne informs a dying Jamie she is carrying her child.
Jon reluctantly takes the Iron Throne. Names Sansa the Lady of Winterfell. Names Brienne the Regent of Casterly Rock and that her child is the heir to the Lannisters.
Varys, Missandie, and Davos remain with Jon (although Davos returns to his wife).
The Dothraki are given a huge gift (think Tyrell gold) and depart to for Essos via the Ironborn fleet commanded by Asha.
Final couple of scenes. Pod helps a pregnant Brienne on to a horse, calls her ser, then my lady, escorts her to Casterly Rock. Arya leaves KL alone and moments later is joined by Gendry who rides off with her. Bran is flying, having warged in to a raven, far, far north of what was the Wall. He spies a lone child in tattered clothes walking slowing through the snow. The child looks up at the passing raven, opens its eyes, and they turn shining blue.

This was my prediction from 1/8/19. I didn't read one spoiler for this season (I did for S7) nor pay any attention to the betting odds.

I got pretty close on several arcs, in particular BoW. Completely whiffed on how things would turn out at KL other than Jamie and Cersei dying and the Hound and Arya getting in the city to kill the Mountain/Cersei. Completely whiffed on the prophecy.

IDK, kind of like my vision for the ending better.

I don't know, Tyrion being excluded from Sam's book for reasons unknown was pretty unintentionally funny as well. I'm not sure there is a single individual that made more of an impact on the war of the 5 Kings as Tyrion. It makes zero sense to exclude him.
Especially since his speech helped decide the new King! Tyrion probably was in more scenes over the course of the series than any other actor...just bizarre.
Every author eventually falls prey to the vanity of writing themselves into their work.
Tyrion has clearly been the GRRM avatar in this story.
Hmm. Not buying it. Sam and Bran are supposed to be keepers of the history and records. It makes no sense for the one who is in charge of recording events to purposefully leave out an influential person. I could see Cersei pulling a stunt like that because she hated Tyrion, but not Sam.
That's why Tyrion gets left out of "A Song Of Ice And Fire" -- it's an authorial joke (or unintentional psychological slip).

Tyrion, the character, is the most prolific character in the GRRM books, because in the first half of the story he's Living The Dream of every mom's-basement fantasy nerd -- the Imp is the childish Id of the Comic Bookstore Guy -- yeah he's physically unattractive, can't throw a spiral, probably would be out of breath walking up some stairs, but he's learned to accept being an outcast and spend his time whoring and drinking and being a Party Animal. He's a lothario, he's got Game with the ladies, and whenever he doesn't have Game, he's big ballin with cash yo. He's also super smart and witty and like tooootally way smarter than everyone else around him.

Does that seem clearer?

So it's the writers' joke that Tyrion, the character who is the projection of GRRM, original author, is all over the 21st century books "A Song Of Ice And Fire", but he gets completely left out of the fictional "Song Of Ice And Fire" inside the story, because inside the story he's just another character, not the author.
Oh, I understood what you said. I just think the writers made a poor choice in that scene. It doesn't fit the character. Whether it was intentional or not, doesn't really matter to me. I just thought it absurd. Like if they wrote that Bran could really walk, just to surprise us, so they could say they delivered on an unexpected surprise ending....
Ah. Yes, I agree with you. It's "here's the kicker" just for the sake of having a kicker. It's actually pretty cruel -- Hey let's have one last laugh at the ugly short dwarf who thinks he's someone but really will never be anyone because we don't care about runt tardies.

While I'm being critical, can I mention that all that beautiful calligraphic writing was ruined when she flipped the page with wet ink over and started writing on the back? And when she closed the book without waiting for it to dry? Pen artists all over the world had minor heart attacks!

No joke, I actually cussed at her when she did that.

Almost every time we've seen someone writing on this show, they were careful to dust it. But she's writing an official history and slams it shut wet.
I thought about that too, but then remembered that for formal writing in Westeros they use premium ink which contains a small amount of dragon's blood. Its inherent heat reacts upon contact with the carbon fibers in the paper to cook and dry the ink instantaneously.

Self-selection bias.

The kind of people who enjoy being in a massive crowd of other people all talking and emoting in unison (performative reaction signalling) at a screen are inherently collectivists; i.e. ruled by emotion rather than reason; i.e. fickle as f--k; i.e. leftists.

B- Grey Worm was so brutal during the sack of KL, then minutes later (to us) we see him escorting Tyrion to a possible trial. The unsullied are the epitome of discipline. They were killing KL under Dany orders. Tyrion appeals to this discipline to keep himself and Jon alive, and it worked.

So question for y'all who we're disappointed in the ending.

Is it enough that it sours any thoughts of rewatching the show again in it's entirety?

Because it has me. I'm not a froth at the mouth hater but since it all just ended so flat for me, I don't know if I will ever want to do a full rewatch ever again. Select episodes sure perhaps but from start to finish like I do with several of my favorite tv shows? Thinking hard nah at this time.

    Also, another side debate question.

Out of all the things that happened during all eight seasons, what was the absolute most pointless plot/event/person of all. And that includes in real life as well.

Mine was the Golden Company at the end. How much money and time and effort did they spend to make a few minutes of worthless plot device that wasn't even a real plot device, happen? Completely pointless to me. Even stupid. Of all the things that could have just been written over and mystical hand waving, because it's just "in the script" liberties taken, it should have been this. Wasted resources. Should have never even been a factor for Cersei in the first place. D&D could have just written in that the GC were like, "Nah." and then just have the Lannister army only. Which is what it came down to anyways. Would have saved considerable expense in extras, costume design and production and of course precious minutes of airtime.
