I have no issue with it. Bran is not bran. He's some super wise, emotionless future seer and past "knower". The last kings and queens all made dumb mistakes from emotional decisions. What's better than someone who has none?

Yea it's cool FOR NOW. What happens in 50 years when the council elects a new king? Nothing about this set up suggest the "wheel is broken." It just ensures that a different wheel is in place. And what happens to the 3ER? Is that power now the Kings right?

Would be a good idea. Whoever wants to be king must be elected and willing to give up their body to the 3ER. So essentially the 3ER rules forever.

Tyrion: "The throne should go to the person with the best story. No, not the guy who spent his life as a mistreated, misunderstood ******* who was actually the legitimate son of the heir to the kingdom and thus himself the legitimate heir to the kingdom, who rose from ignominy to become the Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, who assembled a force to take on and defeat the greatest evil the world has ever known, who was murdered to death and literally brought back from the dead, who fell in love with and then assassinated an evil despot.....no, I mean the kid who fell out a window and is now a crippled idiot savant. What a story!"

What D&D have done to Tyrion and Jon is far worse than if they just had them killed 4 seasons ago.

Um, you can argue about the pacing but this is Grrm ending and it has his fingerprints all over it

We don't know what parts are his ending. I bet Bran ending with iron throne like they wrote it is nothing like Martin's ending.

Are they going to have to move the throne room outside for when Bran becomes a tree?

In the books, what we see in that last episode is not really "Breaking the Wheel" in any sense. A "Great Council" to decide the succession is the standard (peaceful) way to resolve the dispute, and has happened in the past multiple times. It also is not the first time that a "three eyed raven" type character has been in attendence at one, as the last one was called by then Hand of the King/Master of Whisperers Brynden Rivers (last seen in the show as dude tangled in the roots of a weirwood tree) shortly before he got himself sent to the Night's Watch by murdering a claimant "for the good of the realm."

I don't get why some are expecting the end to be some perfect system with lasting harmony. Clearly, they are attempting to rule differently than the past, while acknowledging no assurance of success. The story acknowledges that they may be making a mistake ("ask me in 10 years"). So peel apart the faults and questionable sustainability all you want, because the story is supposed to have them.

This is why I wasn't a fan of people posting the odds. Bran was a huge front runner in January and it made no sense that he should be other than people who knew about the leaks. This is a form of spoiler that should not have been allowed.

yeah...although the one that sparked the conversation and your rebuke of me a few weeks ago had JON as the favorite. And my point then was it made sense jon was the favorite I doubted that was based on leaks. Bran was second though but I hardly noticed then. Most here were downplaying those odds and saying the idea of Bran was dumb. lol. Oh well. It appears maybe word was getting out then and by late Jan it was pretty well confirmed.

https://texags.com/forums/13/topics/2877532/replies/53515093

I managed to avoid all spoilers and even seeing some odds posted I had no clue. I literally thought he was about to promote Jon who could then pardon himself (lol) or Gendry. I never thought of Bran.

I never understood having betting odds anyway on something at least 1000 people knew the result of. That just seems dumb.

It is "The Three Eyed Crow" in the books, and it is just a personal representation of Brynden Rivers. It is not an entity or title. It is just like an avatar of how Brynden Rivers is represented in the green dreams. The most accurate similar representation of Bran in the books is "The Winged Wolf"

I didn't agree with you at the time but do now. It was straight up the result of leaks.

I'm a lot more off put by how the scene was executed than by Bran becoming king or the mechanism for it (the council).

Sansa slapping down her uncle.
Cranky Yara get her life threatened by Arya.
Dornish guy looking all Dornish.
Sam suggests some watered down version of representative democracy and gets laughed out of the room.
It was bad.

Here's my equally bad re-write of that scene.

Sansa: Ok then, I agree with Tyrion that Bran should be king. Let's call a vote.
Yara: Wait, why do you get to vote on it? You're getting independence? This is horse sh**.
Arya: Talk about my sister again and I'll cut your throat...
Yara: WTF? Is she for real?
Davos: Please everyone, let's try to maintain some civility and....
Sansa: Ser Davos is right, let's call the vote...
Davos: (looks at Sansa) my Lady, it's Lord Davos, Stannis Baratheon made me a....
Sansa: (eyes rolls) the North doesn't care Onion Knight....
Davos: This is outrageous! Pardon my Lady but do you just play the cold, humorless, heartless, bich these days just for the sake of playing the cold, humorless, heartless bich?
Arya: Talk to my sister again and I'll c...
Sam: (stands up) cut his throat. Yes we get it, we all get it, you'll cut all of our throats.....
Arya: (smiles)
Brienne: Oh just get on with the vote, Aye....
Rest of council: Aye....aye......aye.....aye......etc.

Grey Worm: This one says nay (off in the background you hear hundreds of spears start banging against the cobblestones)
Grey Worm: Looks like Unsullied win vote.
Sansa: That is NOT how a council vote works.
Grew Worm: This one says bite me.
Brienne: ...and Grey Worm, exactly what is it we would bite? /snickers
Pod: (laughs) Good one Ser, I mean, my Lady, no, wait, I did mean Ser!
Grey Worm:
Davos: Come now friend, it was just a joke, right proper joke too, easy, it was funny.
Grey Worm: This one says you can have this city. Unsullied are leaving (puts on helmet and starts walking away, stops, turns back) this one says, you know what's really funny?
Arya: Your pointy hats? (whole council laughs, even Sansa).
Grey Worm: We're not taking Dothraki with us. Have fun with that.

Cut to Jon at the Wall. The End.

I will agree that how they held the discussion was clumsy, and then following it with Bronn's comedy routine as a part of the small council just compounded it. The usual complaint of poor execution vs. not liking where they took things.

Why would anyone around the Westeros accept his rule? Because he has a completely bonkers story?
Dude, you know the part about the story was just D&D stroking each other off over being such magnificent storytellers that the audience will accept anything they put up. That was their way of telling the audience to just accept Bran as king, "because we're masterful storytellers and we said so."

Nothing about this set up suggest the "wheel is broken." It just ensures that a different wheel is in place.
Is that not kind of the unfortunately depressing, but true point? The wheel never breaks. Just turns with a new, different spoke on top after the last.

I'm not sure that depth is there to what D&D were writing for the ending, I think they have truly intended for this ending to be them "breaking the wheel", but I just see as the wheel taking a different form or just a different spoke on the wheel if you will.

Sadly I think there is no breaking the wheel.

They were probably just looking for some of that fish stew Davos used to rave about. Seriously, my wife looks at me and says "the horse guys are just walking around like tourists, worst ending ever".

I think it was an attempt at pushing PC culture. The 3rd world Dothraki's are now living happily in civilized King's Landing as regular citizens.

He brings up a good point that I thought of initially after episode 7 but forgot about after episode 8.

Dany goes mad and burns KL BECAUSE of Jon letting his secret get out (Bran telling Sansa). It is because she is afraid of everyone in Westerose loving Jon that she decides to use fear as a tool to get and keep the throne.

If Bran knew everything, then he willingly participated in killing those people of KL.

Jon told Sansa, not Bran.
It's debatable. In that scene, Jon told Bran to tell Sansa and Arya, then they cut away.

One of the many frustrating parts of the season. That conversation was something I wanted to see so badly and they cut it out for what? The 20 minute corny ass fire scene? ugh
