Something about this trailer feels 1980's/90's to me and I have no clue why... maybe it was just the format it was played in. Not too sure about this one, though.

It's the same music as an Infinity War trailer.

Tom Hardy has a different voice in every movie he's in.

The "We" voice is cool... but still no idea how this works without Spider Man

It doesn't.

This whole idea is pretty dumb. Same with a Joker movie without Batman.

I don't see how you can have one without the other.

Finally got around to watching the trailer and it somehow looks simultaneously better and worse than I was expecting, and I don't understand how that's possible.

Also, isn't Woody Harrelson in this?

Either way, I have never cared about this character, know next to nothing about him, and am afraid this trailer didn't move the needle for me at all in the end.

Oof, not sure what I was expecting but I don't think I liked it, judging from the trailer.

Will probably give it a shot anyway, unless the reviews are just horrendous

The look of the symbiote and the action in this for some reason looks horrible. I can't really figure out why but that trailer seemed really bad to me lol.

Just watched it and wondered if I was alone in my feeling about this. I admit skepticism going in, but... meh. Not sure this is going to work. I don't even think it's the lack of Spider-Man, but just the whole vibe seems wrong. Is it a horror movie? That could work but I don't think that's what they're doing.

It's Sony.

That's what they're doing wrong.

While this is a better trailer, that's not saying much when I think that the first Venom trailer was one of the worst trailers I've seen.

That being said, this one does do a better job of letting us know what direction they're taking with this character. However, I don't think that what they are doing is necessarily good.

First off: the symbiote is apparently man-made, having been recovered from a crashed satellite/research vessel. So......it's not alien. Not a great start.

Eddie Brock is a reporter. Okay, that's actually good. However, he apparently shows up to interview a rich industrialist looking like he's just come back from a camping trip.

Riz Ahmed as the bad guy is a bad choice judging by the trailer. Nothing about him is intimidating. He looks small and non-threatening. But like all villainous executives, he dresses in all black...even in a lab.

Didn't really care for Venom's main ability being to shoot out thick tendrils out of every part of Hardy's body. Will we see any webbing? Hopefully, they're holding that back from the trailers.

HOWEVER, the best part of the trailer hands down is Brock's interaction with the symbiote. Him referring to himself as "we" was just cool. Hardy will probably make this watchable regardless of the script.

And I said it earlier in this thread and this trailer has done nothing to change my feelings: this movie has absolutely ZERO to do with Spider-Man, and that just feels so, so wrong on so many levels. It's like doing a Joker origin story, setting it in San Francisco and never mentioning Batman. Good casting can't overcome this basic flaw.

I kinda like Hardys voice/accent and I love the venom voice and conversation.

I think a horror take is pretty appropriate for Venom. He's definitely dark... and if Carnage is in it, then that's absolutely horror material.

One other thing:

If you're trying to take down an evil corporation that's killing who-knows how many people trying to bring about the next phase of human evolution....how are you the anti-hero?

Venom was an anti-hero because he wanted to murder Spider-Man...but would occasionally help innocent civilians in trouble.

I would guess similar to how deadpool and the punisher are anti-heroes.

The writer for the movie is the person that wrote the 50 shades of grey movie, so there's that

Yeah, I get that. But Deadpool (the movie) was really only out for revenge and the Punisher just flat-out murders people. Sure, they're scum, but he is "taking the law into his own hands" as Daredevil would remind him.

I guess it's just weird here because think about it: this is basically the same plot from Ant-Man with a few minor tweaks. And Ant-Man wasn't thought of as a "hero" because he had a criminal record and so wasn't thought of too highly to begin with.

.............................so about this Venom trailer. Still not sold on the look of him in that last shot. Still looks too much like the Topher Grace version.

Disney/Marvel needs to pay whatever annual GDP of any major country outside the G7 to get the rights to Spiderman back from Sony. That looked terrible.

The only way this was going to be interesting is if they had done it as a horror/thriller type movie. The symbiote slowly turning a hero into a monster. That's what excited me about the first trailer. The generic action movie theme I'm getting from this second trailer does nothing for me. It needs Spider-Man if that is the direction they are going with.

I'm okay with a Venom story without Spider Man. But this movie appears to be an origin story, so yeah, Spider Man is vital.

That said, I will watch the movie because Venom is my favorite villain and I'm a sucker for anything Spider Man

I'm guessing Carnage shows up real late in the same way as Stane putting on the iron monger suit or Cross with the yellow jacket suit. Riz Ahmed is about to get caught so he unleashes Woody as Carnage for 1-2 fight sequences and that's about it.

So what are the Spidey/no Spidey rules here? They do own the character, can they use him in any way? Or they just aren't.

Seconded on sym-BI-oat Thought I thought the trailer was kind of intriguing if not kinda over the top in a few places.
