I don't think the point of the thread was to list shows that most people with a college education would agree are overrated. This is about critically acclaimed shows.

My list:

Firefly
Homeland (1st season was great)
Sons of Anarchy
House of Cards (1st season was great, as well)
Lost
Mad Men

And yeah, the Walking Dead is terrible...and yet I made it 5 seasons through that show

Ah yes, SoA. I had almost conveniently forgotten about that show. Fortunately Sutter's show that he did after was axed. FX saved us from more of that.

How I met your mother is definitely up there, but The Walking Dead has to be the most overrated shiw in history. I made it through the first season mainly hoping that it would pick up and actually get better... and then they spend all of season two on that ****ing farm!

Everything about that show has been **** since day 1...the acting, the directing, and especially the writing.

The first season of SOA was really good. But it turned into a comedy during the Ireland season.

The best thing about that executioner show was the thread on here that consisted of one poster ttrying to justify watching it.

I didn't watch the last season, but I still like to reference how often they said "Jesus Christ"

Add Jax slamming his flip phone shut and it might have been a top 5 comedy when it was on.

The Walking Dead - only popular because of the topic/setting. Way too much contrived stupidity.

Two and a Half Men - It's extremely funny if you're a mouthbreather/below average IQ.

Modern Family - It used to be funny, so I could tolerate everything else about it that irritated me. Now, not so much. I finally gave up watching it this season.

Season 1 was so incredibly well-written that it was easy to get attached to the characters. When it went off the rails, my attachment was a holdover. Like it was almost obligatory to see what happened.

But they had no idea where the hell they were going and it showed.

My opinions regarding the show are not exactly unshared. Mad Men is a boring show. I forced myself through 2 seasons in the hope that there was something more to it, but I just never felt compelled to keep watching.

The Wire

Both are (or once were) near-universally recommended. I was never high enough to enjoy Family Guy and I tried to get into the Wire twice, but it was just too slow to hold my attention.

Made it through 2 episodes of Mad Men before I realized that every single character was a person I could not give a sh*t about so I stopped.

It may be a great show and a classic, but it took a very short amount of time for me to actively dislike every single character and so I felt no point in continuing.

Modern Family is a good one. It was good for the first 2 or 3 season, then it went on a steady decline. I finally gave up this season.
