Agreed with all of your thoughts. The only parts of the trialer I really enjoyed were the Joker and Harley Quinn. Largely because I know who they are and what they can do. Not so much with all the other homeless people. Anyway, Margot Robbie looks to have the right mix of hot and crazy. I'll probably see the movie just for her.

Joker and Harley are both nuts

Boomerang is an assassin who throws a boomerang

Croc - he looks like a croc and has super human strength (Don't know if they will play up his strength)

Katana - Ninja

El Diablo - He lights crap on fire

I think a guardians of the galaxy-esque trailer introducing each character's particular brand of insanity / danger would be a lot more impactful. Instead I'm left almost entirely uninterested. I get that it is trying to be dark, but it feels like everything flops. The soundtrack, which is the same kind of haunting children's choir you see in the avenger's AoU, doesn't work because AoU juxtaposes the music with all the bad **** going on. Not so here.

I dunno, this seems like it's just going to be overly busy to me with no cohesive idea driving it, so it'll end up going a thousand different directions unsatisfyingly.

So from what I can tell from the trailer and my limited previous knowledge of the SS (yes the irony is noticed), aegis or whatever govt entity they will use gets these supermax types together to do unsanctioned politic-ing (assassinations, break up crime organizations, etc). They use some kill switch to give them no choice but to cooperate, they operate until they run into the Joker.

He tortures em until they don't fear death, but fear the joker. Harley, who is certifiable, already doesn't fear death so her conversion is kinship to "mista Jaaaaay". Somehow the joker shorts out the kill switch and now he has a small army of Reeks. This becomes a jokerz gang origin story to set up batman v superman.

This is wishful thinking however, because DC films generally suck. So it's likely that Will Smith is the hero that tries to confront joker who has part of his team captured. Who knows how it will end, the trailer kinda teased that the batman will make an appearance (on top the car). If Ben Affleck is the shock they are hoping to ride this film to GotG levels, I'm gonna go ahead and pass....

At least in the preview, Leto's Joker feels like a poser. You can take the character in a thousand insane directions, it's part of his appeal. Nicholson, Ledger, and the animated series Joker were vastly different characters, but they all worked as the Joker. He has to have a sense of style and flair. He isn't a grungy punk rocker or a street thug.

So moving forward we want full bios for characters in trailers for movies that don't come out for a year. Guess I'm the only one who liked the trailer.

Not quite sure what you know of her, but Harley's backstory is that she was an Arkham psychologist who falls in love with the Joker. My educated guess would be that the scenes we see with him and Harley are at least partially flashbacks, it's hard to tell but a few of them look like they may be her in glasses and a labcoat. There's been rumors that Ayer would be altering her origin to some extent so that would all sort of seem to line up, maybe he tortures his therapist Dr Harleen Quinzel and it becomes a Stockholm Syndrome situation.

In any case Joker is very closely tied to her origin, so I can't imagine that she (as the character of Harley) hasn't known him previously.

I'm with ya on that one. That'd be so much more compelling than all the crap in the real trailer.

I am not a comic book guy at all, but I actually liked the trailer. To play Devil's Advocate, I think the trailer may work well with people who aren't comic book fans at all and who don't know who the characters are. I loved the darkness to the trailer and am really intrigued by the storyline. I will go see the movie because of the trailer, but if it was just another run of the mill comic movie trailer showing the special powers/abilities of the characters that I don't know, then I wouldn't have been as intrigued.

In other words, because i am not a comic book fan, I'm not fascinated by the super powers or by the characters. I go see comic movies if the story looks good. This story looks pretty dark and cool.

I'll add that I did love Guardians of the Galaxy, but I only went to see it because of all the great reviews, not because it had a good trailer. I don't even remember the trailer

I think something can be said for "understated" trailers. So much of super hero trailers are just full of explosions and you see so many action shots . I think that may be why I liked this. Even though we saw some action sequences

And that's the funny thing. It's still the exact same movie, but your perception changed based on a different sequence that they showed the trailer in. So I would give them so leeway, especially since the movie isn't for another year

That's the problem with comic book movies, everyone wants it to follow the books. I myself am guilty of the same thoughts, I am upset that Civil War isn't following the books. We have to remember that we as comic book nerds are only a small percentage of the movie goers. People will watch this for a few reasons. The actors in it. The fact that its a superhero movie and people love those now days. Heck some will go see it because they want out of the house and nothing else looks good.

It would be awesome to have background movies, like Marvel did, but maybe DC is just trying to through stuff out there to one up Marvel?

Either way, I'm not a DC fan and plan on seeing this.

I disagree, with the thousands of universes and adaptations, there is no "follow the book". People just want good storytelling, even if they have to borrow heavily from the book to do so.


Nolan's trilogy didnt follow Frank Miller's DK canon, but its considered to be golden standard of hero movies.

That's what I was trying to say. There is no follow the book. They don't have to follow the Harley/Joker story. Hell they could have Harley fall for Batman if they wanted......

Yea DC villains are pretty lame. For every Joker and Ra's, you have ten guys who are Moist from Dr. Horrible.

I think DC has the best villains, they're just all tied to Batman. Obviously Diablo and Slipknot are pretty terrible, but ***spoiler alert*** half the squad is going to die. They need some Star Trek redshirts.

The Suicide Squad is pretty D-List anyways when you're going by comic standards. But Marvel has proven that you don't have to make a movie about Spider Man or Batman to have a massive hit...

I think it's a cool idea, they just have a bunch of lame villains. The only reason Harley is with them is because she's become so popular and they want to have a name in there. Plus she helps tie the Joker and Batman into it. I don't think Croc has ever been on the team either, but I could be wrong.

But Captain Boomerang may be literally the dumbest villain I've ever seen

I love Batman villains but I get worn out by Batman.

Which is why I want so badly for Suicide Squad to rock. All the fun of the DC/Batman villains without the mopiness of Batman dragging them down. This should be kickass fun, not some dark and dreary story of redemption.

Don't get me wrong, no matter how much I bag on this, I'm still in. I'll be there with bell's on hoping that it surpasses expectations. So far, its just been bland bland bland.
