I believe this is correct. I think in previous statements he said he wouldn't want somebody else finishing his work

It's correct. GRRM has said many times that he doesn't want anyone else to finish it, quite unequivocally. His wife has said in interviews that she completely agrees and they don't have kids who might someday sell the rights. I think he's so sick of fans moaning "he'll die before he finishes the series" that he's perfectly fine with screwing them if he does.

I would imagine only the lords of the Iron Islands would be allowed to attend the kingsmoot. A small crowd would make sense there. It would also explain how Theon and Yara escaped with the ships and convinced so many sailors to follow them.

G Martin 87, go finish your breakfast of sausage and applecakes, and that double helping of fried eggs cooked up with onions and fiery Dornish peppers, hot bread, butter and honey and blackberry preserves, a rasher of bacon and a soft-boiled egg, a wedge of cheese, and a pot of mint tea....and get back to work!

Martin may not care about money, but that decision passes to someone else when he dies. Maybe his wife doesn't want the money and is willing to respect his wishes. But she'll die too. Eventually, ownership of his estate will pass to someone who wants money and doesn't care what old man Martin wanted. The books will be written. The questions are: who will write them and when?
On a re-watch - Bran was in the past when he warged into Big Hodor, but he stayed in the past and didn't fully return to the present. Big Hodor "holding the door" was really Bran, inside Hodor, controlling him and pummeling his brain with "Hold the Door Hold the Door Hold the Door." But since Bran was in the past, it seems like he warged into both Hodors at the same time and all three were connected. Young Hodor was also being pummeled with "Hold the Door Hold the Door Hold the Door" and when Big Hodor died, the pummeling stopped but he had been irrevocably damaged.
Here's an interesting thought - I seem to remember Varymir or the 3EC saying that if you are warged into another person/animal and they die before you can get out, you will be permanently damaged by it and unable to return to your own body. But Bran was fine afterwards (and obviously will be since he has more to do in this story) so I wonder if he was unconsciously pushing that "damage" onto Young Hodor to protect himself, since the three were linked.

I fully expect that sitting in his hospital deathbed he will request pen and paper and hot out 20 pages or so where the white walkers kill the dragons and overrun the world. He won't die without killing off every major character
I would absolutely love it if the GoT wraps up on HBO & then Martin completely changes the ending of the book.
Like maybe in the show R+L= Jon Snow & he is "The Prince that is Promised".
The book goes anti-religion/prophesy & just has Dany conquer Westeros & marry "Young Griff".
It would actually be a brilliant move... it would certainly drive book sales up.

Hmmmm....I'm not in that camp. I want them to have the same overall conclusion. But I'm ok with the subtle differences and even lack of certain characters and combining things or having them occur a slightly different way. But if they have completely different conclusions then I'm a bit let down.
For the record I'm ok most of the time when a movie changes the ending of a book, as long as it makes sense and doesn't change the entire concept or feel or some main characters entire motivation.
I guess its that this is just like a bigger investment in it.
Sometimes movies are changed just to allow for movie sequels - that sucks but its understandable. Jurassic Park is an excellent example of that and I was ok with it.
But there is no reason to change things here for sequel purposes. Budget purposes I get and even keeping the character count manageable (if we had all the book characters it would be nuts and waaay too long). But the overall fate of main characters I would expect to be the same.

it already is. The show is the adaptation not the book.
All depends what the lawyers worked out years ago. My guess would be that Martin has reserved all rights to finish out the book however he sees fit, if he finishes them at all.

They would both be "official versions". 1A & 1B. The arguments in fandom would be epic.
There are so many differences with characters being dead or omitted entirely, it is completely plausible a different conclusion should be reached. It would make reading the book much more exciting IMO.

This scenario would be far more frustrating and annoying than fascinating and exciting...
It's all opinion. I doubt Martin will finish the final book anyway so this won't be an issue.
I haven't even read the books, but the only thing that matters to me is that whoever ends up on the throne (if anyone) is the same.
