I guess if grrm passed away his work could be finished by others. Similar to Robert Jordan and the massive WoT series.

Not quite as awesome as if G Martin 87 is really GRRM.

quote:Meh. He already gave HBO full creative control. They'll finish the story.
It's correct. GRRM has said many times that he doesn't want anyone else to finish it, quite unequivocally. His wife has said in interviews that she completely agrees and they don't have kids who might someday sell the rights. I think he's so sick of fans moaning "he'll die before he finishes the series" that he's perfectly fine with screwing them if he does.

quote:I don't really see it as the book reader getting screwed. HBO is going to finish the story and, IMO, has for the most part done a pretty good job of it. Thing is, I don't think anyone really knows or will ever know if GRRM believed he would finish the story before HBO did, or if he believed he would finish the story at all to be honest. So considering he has consistently stated he wouldn't allow someone else to finish the books, HBO has turned out to be the next best option and of course GRRM has made an absolutely killing selling the rights to them.

quote:That's all completely on Martin's wishes and estate planning. He owns it. If he doesn't want the books finished by someone else, they won't be finished by someone else. I really don't think money is the issue to him. If it were he would have finished this years ago.
The books will be written. Not publishing the final books leaves too much money on the table. Maybe Martin dies, and maybe his wife won't let anyone finish it (Unlikely, but it can happen). Well, she'll die too, eventually, and the rights to the book series pass to someone else. You don't think the next guy would happily make a buck or a million by selling those rights to an eager publisher?

I mean, is it THAT implausible? He does have stuff at the A&M Library.

I would absolutely love it if the GoT wraps up on HBO & then Martin completely changes the ending of the book.
Like maybe in the show R+L= Jon Snow & he is "The Prince that is Promised".
The book goes anti-religion/prophesy & just has Dany conquer Westeros & marry "Young Griff".
It would actually be a brilliant move... it would certainly drive book sales up.
quote:If he did that would HBO have some kind of legal recourse? Suddenly theirs would be viewed as the "unofficial version".

it already is. The show is the adaptation not the book.
